[RUMOUR] FairGame$ has been cancelled. [Update: Pachter says he "misspoke"]

"And outside their first party games, almost all their metrics kept growing during this push to all time records too."

What do you think people like myself and Topher Topher and many others buy a Playstation for?

First. Party. Games.
Only around 10% of the PS full game units sold from first party.

Obviously they are important and are one of the reasons of why people buy a console but there are more, like the 3rd party games that make the other 90% (plus pretty likely a bigger percentage of addons and PS Plus revenue).

And well, isn't that they are lacking good first party games or something: just to name a couple, they released Death Stranding 2 and the GOTY of last year was Astro Bot, plus released cool stuff for Helldivers 2 or Destiny, and minor things for those who may be interested like ports and remasters (in recent months, in my case Days Gone Remastered+DLC).

After 30 years, first time Pachter admits he has no clue what he's talking about
Nice, better to admit it late than never.

It was nothing even remotely like the Dark Zones in the Division.

It was Payday but with a "Diverse Set of Characters (TM)" and a shitty premise about stealing from the rich... because capitalism = bad or some shit.
It was an extraction shooter -- you know, a genre that was literally born out of the Dark Zone from Tom Clancy's The Division; which by the way is an Ubisoft title, the company where most of the people at the helm of Haven worked at in the past, so that is a natural point of reference for Fairgames at a conceptual level. Also, Jason Schreier himself drew comparisons to The Division in his Bloomberg report about Jade's departure.

So, as I said, it is The Division's Dark Zone mixed with Payday, from which it takes its heist-oriented, team-based stealth action game design cues.

And I don't know where you are coming from with all that culture war nonsense in your head. On the reveal trailer we just saw a white dude, an asian dude and a black woman, while the first out of the two rival player squads wore ski masks and the second monkey masks.

But sure, the game that we've seen no more than minute-long CG and no gameplay at all is certainly woke, overly diverse, and whatever other nonsensical adjectives you wanna attach to it.

I wonder if being put off by woke isn't just a symptom of our collective subconscious rejection of increasingly aggressive monetization practices.

Maybe all of it is just some silent protest.

Some of the worst anti-Sony haters and desilusional gaming flatearthers, those who keep claiming PS haz no gamez even just after somebody remind them recent a few great/successful releases, or that keep claiming 'PS is doomed because they are a failing with X area' after having shown oficial, objective data that shows Sony is growing and doing a record performance in that X area and most of the other ones, are former Sony fans.

Some of them think that they continue being fans.

She left in May and being optimistic it will be a very late 2026 game, but I think it's more realistic to expect it for 2027.

And well, it isn't the first time she leaves a team she created after being a few years there. Notice the pattern:

After working as programmer at SOE during a couple years, she started to lead teams as producer at EA to making Sims Online, was there for a couple years. She left and became producer of a company which got $100M in VC. Afer being there a couple years, she moved to Ubisoft.

As producer she created and leaded a AAA team (the Assassin's Creed one) at Ubisoft Montreal. Was there for 4 or 5 years, then she moved to create and lead Ubisoft Toronto, where created and leaded multiple AAA teams who worked in many of the popular IPs, and later also got a position whose name I don't remember but was basically in charge of overviewing and guiding the new IPs created in the times of The Division, For Honor, Child of Light, Valiant Hearts, The Crew, etc.

After 5 years in Ubisoft Toronto, she left to become SVP of EA and create and lead Motive while supporting Popcap Vancouver and the Star Wars games. She left, took half a year of vacations and got hired as VP of Google, being in charge of their first party games. She was there publishing a few 2nd party games and building a new team until Google decided to shut down Stadia.

So after being there for a couple years, three months later had a new studio set up and publishing deal signed with Sony. 4 years and a half later, she's out.

I don't recall ever saying "PS haz no gamez" or "PS is doomed" so not sure who you are thinking about here, but it ain't me.

Eh....I hear ya man, and I understand where you're coming from, but you're off base on Topher Topher bro. I'm sorry, but ya just are. He's not anti any of the companies dude, he just wants good games and potentially his meds and bowl of soup.
I'm sorry bro, I've never gotten to make an age joke at your expense before, it was time.

Honestly, I'd much rather be championing Sony's kick ass games like I used to. Give me a Naughty Dog* or Sucker Punch* game, a bowl of soup and my meds........and I'm happy as a pig in shit.

*I do seem to recall vehemently defending both Intergalactic and Ghost of Yotei regularly on this very forum. Seems that doesn't count though.

First. Party. Games.

You struggle there you start losing people like myself who mainly game on a PC

That doesn't make anyone anti Sony or a flat earther

May i add "single player cinematic" there please?
Helldivers 2 is excellent and good for them to fund it, but thats not why we buy Playstation consoles.

Well, of course it isn't - Sony is an innovator. Their business innovation in the GAAS space is to cancel games AFTER they've been released. They knocked it out of the park with Concord, and FairGame$ looks to be another home run for this bold new strategy.

Pachter confidently says things that are wrong all the time. He just makes things up.

Recently he was saying that Doom The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones can't be resold or traded in because there isn't much data on the discs, but he is completely wrong about that, the discs can be reused just fine.

He has no info, but it doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Just that he has nothing on it.
As far as information about this game goes, things doesn't look good for them either.

The premise was literally explained by the developer. Go and watch the reveal and listen to the dev introduce the game.

If you're gonna opine on something, at least educate yourself about it.

Being critical of mistakes or the direction a company is taking is not the same as no longer caring or being a fan. Agreeing with everything a company does is a bit delusional and looks a lot like this....

this is bad news. I really hope that this woke dei infested gaas be cancelled and Sony focus back on great exclusives
There's still plenty of time to cancel it. For all we know Sony Nippon told the team to carve out all the hipster woke crap and their decision to ship hinges on the work done there.

I can see that they aproximatedly doubled their first party revenue during this push, and that this quarter 40% of their first party revenue came from GaaS. Meaning, even if their non-GaaS part also grew, they doubled their revenue mostly thanks to money coming from GaaS.

And outside their first party games, almost all their metrics kept growing during this push to all time records too.

So no, they didn't mess anything. As usual in gaming they had some delays, cancellations and not greenlighted pitches, which is normal business for gamedevs, something that always happened since the 70s in all companies, and obviously most of the cases in non-GaaS particularly.

But I know that gaming flatearthers anti-Sony fanboys like adamsapple adamsapple , Topher Topher or you never will accept it.
I agree with you that Sony has made a ton of money and has been successful this gen. It would be foolish to say otherwise, but the reality is it has also been a very disappointing gen from Sony for many of their core fans due to several factors.

The GaaS push, PC focus, and the focus on profit over pushing fidelity like they used to in tentpole single player blockbusters. Also, disappointing backwardd compatibility (all those great ps2 and ps3 games that they dont care to try to bring forward). Finally, the incredibly expensive PS5 Pro has been a total dud of a console (where are the impressive games for it, the 2-3x RT speeds, etc).

What would the shape of this gen been like had Sony not been so distracted with GaaS and PC ports? Why haven't we gotten another amazing remake from BluePoint after Demons Souls in 2020? Where have Sony Santa Monica and Naughty Dog been all gen? What happened to Ghost of Yotei for it to look like a ps4 pro game despite being made for ps5 and ps5 pro?

Sony has lost their crown as the undisputed kings of graphics this gen, getting beat not just by a few studios but many. Ubisoft is even crushing them in this area. As far as BC, we havent had a port or remaster of one single PS3 game throughout the gen except for the Demons Souls renake. STILL NO BLOODBORNE REMASTER! Not even a patch for 60 fps. People have wanted remasters for Killzone 2+3, Infamous 1+2, Resistance, and Motprstorm forever. God of War Ascencion is stuck on ps3. Gran Turismo and Ratchet.

At what point will Sony gamers start to get pissed and leave console for PC when Sony themselves doesn't seem to care that Ps5 Pro owners feel like we've gotten any priority from Sony and more and more games seem designed for multiplat releases (like Yotei) where its designed not to max out the hardware features of ps5/ps5 pro but seems designed for easy porting instead. May as well be another cross gen game like Ragnarok, gt7 or a fake next gen in name only game like Last of Us Remake and Spiderman 2.

There's a lot of discontent among ps5 owners now whereas there wasn't last gen.

They've mimicked Apple. Even funny since long time ago one of the Sony execs even said they want to be like Apple.

And that mantra is once you find something good, you milk it to the bone. All the creative genius stuff isn't due to inherent culture building stuff. It's more about survival. And once some things become big hits, you just keep doing that till the wheels fall off. Apple is exactly that. They got 4 key product pillars + all the digital services + add ons. That's their focus for probably a decade since their last big product line with watches. Now it's just incremental boosts like PCs inching up in cpu and gpu power. No more need to go ape shit creating crazy stuff anymore. And for Sony, even when they want to try something new they dont even build it themselves (GAAS push). They just buy out studios.

Sony is similar. Aside from Intergalactic (which might not even release this gen), all their big games this gen are sequels, remasters/remakes of them, and they are few and far between. They dont need to amp up on tons of new IPs like old gens since they got third party money coming in and PC ports helping too. Now it's even an Xbox port of their biggest game in years with H2.

You won't hear it from Sony because that would hurt their stock, it's a good idea to at least try to memory hole this shit. Gaming investors are retarded, you can feed them bullshit and they'll believe it's chocolate.

I suspect Marathon will also quietly be killed this way, it's the most sensible way to distance PlayStation from all of this.
Gaming investors believe there's something great on the horizon more than we do.

shit hoping it was true
Hope the dumbasses who make dumbass strategic decisions go, not the regular developers, sadly it's often the other way around. If you have less devs, you have less ability to, when you find better leadership, turn things around.

It's actually not a Gen Z shooter, it's what pretentious millennials think Gen Z shooter would look like. Many such cases
It's crazy to think there's a notion in their middle age who thinks they figured out what's best for the younger generation more than they do like somehow what's in their millennials minds worth more than gen z's entire existence.
