You can shit-talk the guy on the pic all you want, but unlike the current Xbox leadership he was a very good corporate businessman whom very successfully navigated PlayStation through the deal that, as we can see clearly, broke Xbox's back without spending a single dime.

No way. He's the reason why PlayStation exclusives dried up because they were going for live service shit. Just because he beat Spencer, doesn't make him great too. And they did spend money. Bungie wasn't free. They overpaid massively for Concord which any 5 year could see that it would be a disaster and then closed it down.

After...

It makes no sense to be after. If you want fresh blood, you need to replace him now, you know, before the decisions are made that will affect it for the entire generation. Whats the new dude gonna do after a console launched? Save it like phil saved the xbox one from don mattricks mistakes?

Nobody is going to save Xbox. The damage has been done for 15 years. It will be Microsoft gaming and they will be a publisher rather than console manufacturer.

This is literally talking about a console launch. I'm not saying it will be saved, but clearly seems the intention, but if you have any hope of recovering in the console business, you're gonna have to replace him before, not after the console launch.

Another console to rope in people on their lack of vision. If its a traditional console with no exclusives, whats the point?
So just slap the xbox logo on everything is the plan for the future? Meh.

Stop the bleeding and go 3rd. Stop trying to get people into that ecosystem so desperately. I dont feel like a gamer owning an Xbox- it feels more like being a statistic in one of their engagement metrics and hoping it leads me to other products.

I would love to read about Phil's experience post retirement though. Its gotta be good

First really good news for Xbox in a long, long time.

Too bad his replacement will be a colossal corporate ballsucker that doesn't understand shit about gaming.

Next console will be a PC, so he will never retire.

And it will launch without any game, since they cancelled all of them.

Ok, so totally unpopular opinion, but I like the man, he "somewhat" saved the Xone from the disaster it was (it could have been WAY worse). I think he was stuck between the diversity hires to show a more diverse management and the board that wanted more services and more windows instead of Xbox.

That. And, I mean... What MS rep supposed say exactly? 'Yeah, we will fire the guy in 6 months?'

The whole setup and punchline are retarded here, but I expected nothing less from Jez.

I've learned never to believe a thing Microsoft says, especially when it comes to Xbox. Jez serving as a mouthpiece just makes it easier.

I don't get the point of releasing the next-box...(next gen Xbox...) what are they hoping to achieve with it exactly? Exclusives have long since gone...

It's both. All of Xbox top management should be fired, as should Satya Nadella for chasing the unsustainable "infinite growth" and AI. When Windows loses 400 million users over the course of a few years and your gaming division can't put out consistent games or successfully maneuver through the mature console market anymore, you know you screwed up big.
Xbox won't go away as intel on the PC market, it's the truth, we know the reason, it's no longer a secret.

They can't upset long term xbox fans so they have to throw them the next gen hardware bone even if they don't expect it to sell many copies.

The reason it isn't a full pc is 2 fold:

1. Gamers aren't fungible, what works on console won't work on PC yet, this is especially relevant for gamepass
2. Windows isn't currently up to the task so it would be way too expensive to get console equivalent performance from a prebuilt if you want to sell it at a reasonable price

So why will it run Steam? Gotta have a competitive advantage and they sell so few games on their consoles as is that losing those sales to steam wouldn't hurt that much. They will also be offering Xbox partner PCs eventually that will be full prebuilts made by ASUS and the like, these will also have steam + BC for Xbox games via the chipset we learned about recently, so having other storefronts on the console will be consistent with their partners. The long term goal is to replace Steam on PC. They are looking far into the future with this idea though. They want to hit every quadrant. They want future PC gamers buying their prebuilts.

They're calling the Xbox ROG Ally the next generation of handheld console. Maybe Phil will step down sooner than we think, especially since I'm already wondering if there'll ever be another home console or just an Xbox PC
