Russia Demands Probe into US Moon Landing over FIFA

Why hasn't any country been back to the moon?

lol I love my wife but she totally thinks the moon landing was faked and brings up this specific question each time we talk about it. I just showed her the pic on the previous page with the "proof" and she wants a clearer picture haha.

I'm not a doubter. I just wondered if there was any good reading on what a modern moon landing would be like, how safe would it be how dangerous was it when it was accomplished back the. We always use the specs from Apollo 11 as a measure for how far we come and to impress people with how little they worked with back then. Is the answer simply we don't need to?

Yeah I think that is the answer along with no one would really want to fund the mission but who knows for sure. It is pretty strange though that we've never been back, but then again what benefits would be gained from it?

That is the correct answer. Landing on the Moon is actually very straightforward, in many ways more simple than rendezvous of two spacecraft in orbit (which they'd already nailed before Apollo with the Gemini Program). Today it would be even easier and safer, but the problem below remains.

That problem was (and is) that to land humans on the Moon you need to carry a shit load of hardware into space, thus the absolutely massive Saturn V they used for Apollo. And that means massive cost for relatively little scientific and financial return. It just wasn't financially viable and they eventually scrapped the final Apollo missions.

Russia can take our Moon rocks when they pry them from our cold, dead, cheeto stained hands. Go get your own moon rocks Russia.

The Moon is America's backyard. U mad Ruskies?

Keep embarrassing yourself, Russia. Makes for good entertainment.

I can understand where they're coming from. The US being ones to arrest the FIFA officials in Europe can easily be seen as an act of affirming global power.

Yeah sure, if you don't understand how the law works (or the situation at all for that matter). But in the case of Homophobistan, they're probably worried that we'll find evidence of World Cup bribes and their bid will be stripped. Which I really fucking hope happens because they're one of the least deserving countries on earth to host the WC.

it costs a lot of money

Just a tad

Because there are only a few nations that can do it and the cost doesn't justify it since it's simply a desert surrounded by the vacuum of space.

It's not free to go there you know.

A desert loaded with Helium-3, and once we crack fusion we're going to need it.

Because at the moment that Helium-3 is useless to us.

We're talking a species that has people that would sell their grandmothers. mothers, fathers, children, even chop off their own limbs in a heartbeat if it meant profit. So yes it useless in the sense that's it's not cost effective right now to extract. Nor are the metals that can be found there.

It still melts my brain that people looked up at the moon, like, UP at the fucking moon and thought "hey, let's figure out how to get there," and actually did it. It's fucking crazy.

You should look up the Voyager probes or more recently New Horizons to be in awe of the logistics involved. They are based on decades of data collection so they could figure out when and where to have probes slingshot around planets at specific times to reach very specific parts of the edges of the solar system. The timescales of these missions taking around decade of flying through the void of space is a staggering feat of planning and precision. We're talking about distances that makes real time remote control impossible because the speed of light, the fundamentally fastest speed is too slow.
