Enjoyed the episode, one of the more enjoyable ones to me. There was plenty of humour at the start imo with Usagi being Usagi with Mako-chan.

Next episode looks good.

edit: also I hope they go with the henchman story similar to PGSM in Crystal. That story (and the Dark
Mercury
storyline) was one of the more enjoyable aspects of PGSM.

It's Makoto.

And even if the episode is quite different than in Classic, she still manages to show off her strength. Some funny bits at the start of the episode, and Tuxedo Mask already knows that
Usagi is Sailor Moon
as well then.

OMG yes Makoto was perfect.

Wish the stuff with the four kings
not being picked off
meant we'd be seeing more with romance with them and the guardians or some cool stuff with them and Mamoru but the series probably isn't going to deviate that much

Seems clear they're going the romance route because of Nephrite's "I've seen this look before" comment after making eye contact with Jupiter following her Flower Hurricane attack.
They were an item during the Silver Millennium days after all.

Sailor Moon Crystal 5

Girl saves Usagi's life, and her only thought is "She smelled nice". wat

Also, Usagi and girl are magically transported to middle of the block.

Well, that arm-swinging animation will take root in my nightmares.

It's like they turned the obnoxious levels up to 11.

Fuck fuck fuck, the senpai trope!

Defining herself by what her man wants. This is becoming intolerable.

And Luna is downgraded to obvious exposition bot.

Lol, Makoto immediately recognizes Sailor Moon as Usagi. Paper-thin disguise.

She has TWO attacks? Wow.

Why am I watching this?

Well, I think Mako's backstory of her sempai is all said and done (unless she will later keep referring back to it later). Animation was good this ep... except that one scene with Usagi running and swinging her arms. That was... odd.

I think disguises are being treated differently this time. Usagi's dad almost recognized her. Luna already knows who Tuxedo Mask is too.

Ok, so episode 5.

- Art is getting better. I haven't noticed any derpy faces, weird poses or any other atrocities. Even Rei finally managed to look beautiful.

- Makoto is awesome, both as a ordinary student and a sailor senshi; her attacks were really nicely animated.

- The final fight had few nice action scenes, especially Jupiter's and Mars' attacks.

- I like the soundtrack. Using choirs makes the show feel kind of epic.

- The whole "believe in love" theme, senpai talk etc... I know this is a show targeted mainly for girls, but that was a little too much for my liking :/ In the original manga/TV series, was a senpai also the reason for Makoto's moving to a different school?

- Tuxedo Mask is a creeper.

- Tuxedo Mask is really a shitty character in this show. Mamoru saw Youma attacking Makoto... So what is he doing? Did he stopped it? Nope. He changed into Tuxedo Mask costume, woke Usagi in the middle of the night and just started running ahead without telling her anything. He didn't even lead her to Makoto: he was running straight when Usagi accidentally noticed Makoto and Motoki on a side street. :| And when girls were paralyzed he was just hiding behind a wall doing nothing. Coward. At least in the TV show he was throwing the damn rose to disturb a youma girls were fighting with. I'm having a hard time even liking him.

- Usagi's voice starts getting annoying. I know she is voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi - the same VA that voiced her in the original TV show; and yet I don't remember disliking her voice that much in the original 200-episode-show.

Lol, Makoto immediately recognizes Sailor Moon as Usagi. Paper-thin disguise.

I think she recognized her because she called her "Mako-chan". As Makoto said earlier in the episode: "No one's ever called me that before.".
However, what girls wear can hardly be called a disguise anyway. Mamoru at least wears the glasses mask to hide his face. Girls only use tiaras.

"Sailor Moon, as the least competent among us, you shall be our leader!"

Yes, that was really out of place. I know she is supposed to be the leader, but she doesn't really act like one. Other than being friendly, which helps attracting all the f and thus being able to attract all the girls, she is the least mature one out of the team.

Mako-chan is my favorite, and I loved Sailor Jupiter having 2 attacks. That said, I may need to rewatch cuz I wasn't as into as last episode, and I don't like Makoto's new VA that much. Old JP one was far better, and I think the old English one was better too.

I'm getting tired of all these "Usagi is GAAAAAAAY~!" reactions. It reeks of when I was told I must be gay for fangirling over Mitsuishi Kotono.

Different cultures, people.

Funny thing about that actually. In the manga Usagi was at least bi-curious, so no, it isn't just cultural thing.
In fact, this attraction is kind of important round about Sailor Moon S.

I never saw her as bicurious. She was confused as hell because this "guy" kept invading her space and acting like an enemy when they should have been allies. She never initiated any of the contact.

Okay, not sure how that is flowing into this conversation exactly and it is kind of beside the point, Usagi liking or being interested in girls isn't just a joke, it is actually a character trait.

Well, given the nature of the casting here, he'd probably get recasted too. Or maybe Toei will opt for Kappei Yamaguchi again, like they did for PGSM.

Sorry for not posting here for a while, but we've waited a while for episode 5 and I haven't watched or read anything inbetween, only lurking the thread.

Episode 5 was the most enjoyable for me so far. I notice ~the animation~ less and less, and I enjoyed the characters more. Usagi was so adorable in this episode, and I just love to see how much she admires other people she runs into (RE: her super cute reactions when meeting the other Senshi for the first time).

I'm not watching Crystal to pick it apart, so I don't feel like it's necessary for me to say more. It had some quirks but it seems to be getting better? I'm trying to not pay attention since I really enjoy the story. Jupiter is badass and I love her! The bento scene was so cute and funny (I don't actually remember laughing like that when watching the original).

I could have sworn JYB was confirmed to be Artemis.

Unless you're talking about Crystal in which case I don't think anyone on that end even cares.

They're talking about Artemis in Japanese Crystal, JYB will obviously play Artemis both in the SM redub and in the dub of crystal

regarding the four Kings, i guess they'll
just skip their revivals later by keeping them alive all along.

it seems like they want this series to contrast hard with the original by removing all the comedy. the manga seems to be the only material that combines comedy with the original story at this point but that works out better because having a straight unchanged adaptation would make one of them useless (and at least the animation is getting better)

also, Tuxedo Mask
becomes much more useful later when he learns about his past. he's even more useful than his self from the old anime.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Damnit Crunchy, you had one job!
They butchered Jupiter's transformation but they butchered all of them so I guess that's nothing new.

Yeah you can post images here.

Also I'm re-reading the Black Moon arc and I forgot
Diana
showed up way earlier in the manga than in the 90s TV Show. Wonder why Toei did that?

I think there are a few cases where I preferred the style in the original. I can see that they're trying to keep it uniform though.

Yeah there's a couple that look a bit better, but geeze it's like night and day with those comparisons! I figured they would clean it up and that they did. Still looking forward to the second blu's comparisons :)
