Sakurai says you should watch Smash Bros.’ final character reveal ‘even if you don’t play’

I feel the final character of what is presumably the largest Smash roster for the foreseeable future should end on a Mario character in a closing the circle kind of way. And what better choice than the only one of the most iconic members of the series not yet included? And in his most badass version to boot. Yes, I know Captain Toad doesn’t jump but that’s hardly the first liberty they’ve taken with Smash.
Having that said, that probably won’t be the case given Sakurai’s comments. For third party options, I’d love Rayman, Chun-Li (don’t give a shit if that would mean three SF characters, I like my SF), or Travis from No More Heroes. But again, doubt that’ll happen based on these comments.

I like Waluigi and he should be included as well, but Toad is obviously more iconic than him. He’s had more playable appearances in games (even a solo game with Captain Toad) and was even one of the main characters listed for the Mario movie. You ask a random person to list off Mario characters it’s very likely Toad will be mentioned but Waluigi is less likely. He’s not even had his own game yet, yet Wario has had a ton so there’s even far more people who remember Wario over Waluigi.

To me it sounds like it's going to be a really important character that will break barriers like Master Chief, Ellie, Cratos or Goku. Maybe even Nintendo execs like Iwata, Miyamoto, Reggie or even Samurai himself lol.

It's gonna be someone really retro and confuse the shit out of anyone under 30.
Sakurai only has two rules-
1. Character has to have been initially created as a game character
2. Character has to have starred on a Nintendo platform
So that doesn't leave much opportunity for your criteria.

With the way Microsoft is buying, there’s no way they’d lose out on the opportunity to put MASTER CHIEF in the game right before Halo: Infinite drops. Last character too, definitely sounds like something Microsoft would have set plans aside for. We already got Banjo-Kazooie a couple years ago so why not?

Thank goodness for that. I can't wait for Sakurai to finally be free to do what he wants. Most of Ultimate has done little else than tarnishing the legacy of the franchise. KI:U Switch remaster next, please!
