I prefer AMOLED (need those blacks!) so that's great news to me. Hopefully this diamond matrix is similar to the white levels of the Note II's RGB Amoled screen. Perfect balance really. Fantastic blacks, great whites.

I'm more interested in seeing if the screen is less prone to cracks like the S3. The casing seemed strong enough but the screen wasn't.

Gorilla glass 3 I'm assuming.

I just cracked mine, so yea I want to know this too. I think part of the problem was the plastic surrounding bezel. Once that cracks, so does the screen. Looking at the pics it looks like it has a metal bezel now, and one that sticks out a little bit more from the front, so hopefully that will rectify some of the issues, coupled with stronger overall glass.

yea my GNex has a nice healthy scratch and it's cracking in the top left corner (not on the actual screen though). Battery life and better scratch resistant screens would be at the top of my list.

From sammobile about the leaked pics/video floating around:

UPDATE: According to our insider who gave us the first info on the Octa-Core and the PHOLED screen this is not the real deal. This is just one of the prototypes flying around and we know there are a few flying around of those. He told us to trust him. We will know if he was right tonight!

Well it could still be mostly right, but yeah it should be interesting to see what's different. I mean sammobile has pretty much been right about almost every rumour so far so their insider is obviously someone who knows. Guess we see soon.

well the plastic part I still bet is right lol. It might just be the shape of the phone, the pattern on it, etc... things like that which is wrong.

yes

Don't get why they're doing this event so late. Isn't it like 10PM PST? Should bust it out around noon like Apple to get the buzz going.

hope that guy's right, because the design was disappointing
i mean come on, 99% similarity with s3?

The S3 came out last year. This isn't some two year old phone. Even if it did look exactly the same and they only increased the size of the screen they'd still be doing more aesthetically than other companies do year over year, no?

But the iPhone 4's aesthetics stood the test of time and was one of if not the highest selling smartphone of all time. Can't say the same for the GS3.
Cmon man.. The s3 sells more than all the other Android flagships combined. The S4 will likely even sell more.

I agree they can improve the shape a bit, but I still want plastic. Removable battery >>>>>> slight aesthetic improvement

Never said it didn't/wouldn't. Only thing is the S3 design is incredibly dated design wise compared to the newer Android handsets coming out/out (Z, ZL, One). They're fortunate to have a great marketing team.

Ya can't have a unibody aluminum design and still remove the battery, wouldn't be unibody then.

I think :/
Heh, even the first unibody MacBooks had a battery removal mechanism. Later replaced by a big lid with screws.

Every unibody thing always has some openings, be it for the display or something else.

Of course on a mobile phone there's more room constraints, but my point is. You can have alu, glass, whatever, and still have a lid for accessing the battery compartment.

Awesome. I didn't see how they were expecting to get away with that plastic garbage again with its gimmicky features. Excited to let Samsung prove me wrong and bust out a beautiful piece of tech.

its gonna be plastic garbage again. sorry, no blue jeans staining glass back cracking scuffed out of the box shenanigans here.
