Samsung has updated its tablet lineup with the Galaxy Tab 3, a 7-inch tablet running Android 4.1 or Jelly Bean.

The device sports a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 8/16GB of internal storage memory (expandable to 64GB via memory cards), and a 3-megapixel camera on the back, coupled with a 1.3-megapixel one on the front.

The 7-inch screen has a 1024x600 pixel screen, which sounds awfully low by today's standards, but the device is capable of Full HD video playback.

Samsung has stuffed all that into a 111.1 x 188.0 x 9.9mm package that weighs 302g if you choose the Wi-Fi version, or 306g for the 3G variant.

The Wi-Fi version of the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 will be available globally in May, and the 3G version will come in June. Exact pricing and availability will vary by market and will be rolled out "gradually," Samsung claims.

mashable

a pathetic resolution of only 1024x600 :/

Sounds like a real piece of shit.

Why would anyone buy this over a Nexus 7? Samsung have failed to answer that simple question.

The current Galaxy Tab 2 which is more expensive and worse specs consistently has higher marketshare than Nexus 7. Samsung brand name has a lot of power.

Android 4.1? Really Samsung?

4.2 has been out for half a year, how can they still release a 4.1 device? I can understand budget-brands releasing old Android versions, but a company like Samsung should have no issue with keeping their devices up-to-date, let alone release new devices with the latest version of the OS.

Was shopping over the weekend for tablet as I had a sudden urge. The Samsung tab 2 does look and feel great and very premium but the nexus kicks its ass in every area.

If they had upped the resolution of this, I would have gone for it but as it stands, the current nexus is in a different league...never mind the next one...

Samsung seems to be believe the shit from their paid for posters and thinks it's Apple now...

I'm guessing the Tab line has been reduced to budget with the Note line being their flagship.
This is clearly an underwhelming device.

What is the build quality of Samsung tabs? 1/2 of the Samsung stuff I have ever bought has given me trouble or died.

By the way, the Note 8.0 is a pretty fantastic little device. I love having a tablet where I can have Chrome open as well as twitter at the same time split-screen with no slowdown at all.

Looks like it, but you can get tablets from Chinese companies like Ainol with better specs and higher-rez screens with pretty decent build quality for less money.

Both the HTC One and Xperia Z run 4.1, so there's that.

What is the best non-phone Android device right now? I feel like I've been living in the iOS kindergarten for too long.

Nexus 7. For sure. It's really great. If you want a premium tablet then Xperia Tablet Z is definitely at the top end for tablets.

Awful design. And I've had it with how difficult it is to transfer files onto my 10 inch Galaxy Tablet S2 especially if I want to transfer them to an external memory card.

Design is fine. It's probably their lowest priced tablet. My bet:$129 for 8GB Wifi in US.

BTW, copying files are pretty damn easy through uSD card with my Note 10.1. Can't you just copy file to uSD card and then dump them into your Tab 2?

I'd argue Note 8.0 is better. Better size, more powerful CPU, flexibility of having uXCSD card expansion, front facing stereo speakers, dual digitizer, and the side by side app action is unique to Android world.

Sure you pay more, but it just does more.

Nexii recos are understandable, but I can't deal with their lack of uSD card expansion. If you are escaping from iOS, you should be able to experience storage expansion! LOL

I'd need a card reader to be able to do that. And I just don't have the money to buy one atm. I also hate having to turn off/on the tablet + taking out the card just to transfer files. I've been using Kies to transfer files but it always gets disconnected halfway through transferring files which is bloody annoying.

On that note, do you have problem with Android File Transfer? It always fails to detect my Galaxy Tab for some god-knows-why reason.

I'm big on that. It's why I'm contemplating on divorcing with Apple.

Then Xperia Tablet Z, ASUS Transformer Infinity or Galaxy Note 10.1 are good bets, of those the Tablet Z has the most modern hardware, but the Note 10.1 has the Wacom pen input. ASUS will give you the best software support, they have already rolled out 4.2.2 to the Infinity, and they have a great selection of accessories. However it comes with Tegra 3 which may not be supported beyond 4.2.2, while the Note and Xperia will probably get support beyond it.

Nexus 7 is crazy cheap, has better specs, looks better and has stock android [and will be supported by Google for a long time].
