Samuel Jackson locked to 'Django Unchained'
'Pulp Fiction' thesp re-uniting with Quentin Tarantino for fifth time
By Dave McNary

Samuel L. Jackson is confirmed for "Django Unchained," re-uniting with Quentin Tarantino for the fifth time.

Jackson had been expected for some time to play Stephen, a house slave and the right-hand man of a sadistic slavemaster. Thesp's publicist confirmed his attachment Tuesday.

He'll be busy in the meantime: The "Pulp Fiction" star opens in mid-October on Broadway in "The Mountaintop," portraying Martin Luther King, Jr., opposite Angela Bassett. The play runs until mid-January and he'll join the "Django" production immediately thereafter in New Orleans.

Jamie Foxx is expected to star in "Django Unchained" in the title role of Django, a freed slave who teams with a German bounty hunter to take on an evil plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio) to retrieve his long-lost love.

The Weinstein Co. will distribute the pic Stateside; Sony Pictures will handle the release overseas.

Jackson is repped by ICM.

cool. Samuel and Quentin always work together so it's no surprise there. However,It's nice to see Jamie Foxx get some big roles. He's a good actor.

I know Quentin has a knack for resurrecting careers, but this'll be... interesting.
If he could bring Travolta back, he can bring back anyone. Anyone.

Will this be Tarantino's first film without Menke as his editor? It will be interesting to see how it turns out without her as the editing has been a huge part of the style in Tarantino's films.

This has been known for goddamn months. Why not post the NEW actor that was confirmed for it today?

Yeah, I don't think she is coming back.

It'll be awesome.

So glad Smith was not cast.

Smith would have been great.

He's a legitimately good actor and whenever good actors do a role that is a complete 180 from the rest of their work, it tends to work out really well.

I was way more hyped for this when it was a spaghetti western.

Is Morricone still doing the score, at the very least?

Will Smith would have been better fit for Django.
Jamie Foxx is just not convincing enough for me.
Unless he loses weight, I don't see him doing it for me.
Don Cheadle is Django. Tarantino done goofed up on that one.
heck, even Chris Rock could probably have done a good job.

He was never attached. Haven't heard any news from the pair since Morricone turned down scoring Inglorious Basterds due to the rushed timetable.

Ive been watching Kill Bill today. So yay!!!!!!!!!
It says Jacksons part will be filmed when he's free, so has this started filming yet?

This movie is gonna be mindblowing, simply due to the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio is going to be playing an evil plantantion owner. It doesn't get more crazier than that.

Damn. I read that his name was linked to the project a couple of months ago, but I guess it was just speculation. Hype way down :-(

I'll still watch though. I haven't seen a good "southern" in a while.

You're just a hater.

Jamie Foxx is great when placed in a good role. He's definitely a douche, but that shouldn't have any bearing on one's view of him as an artist.

Sam Jackson was going to be in the movie as soon as the premise was known. The only great Tarantino movie he hasn't been a part of was Reservoir Dogs. Just need to get over the fact that Jamie Foxx is Django. Idris Elba + Quentin Tarantino would have been the most epic pairing ever.

I don't think Foxx's career needs "resurrecting".

No, but it does need a kick in the pants...does anyone really get excited when you hear "Jamie Foxx starring in..."? Nope

He's was absolutely unfunny in Horrible Bosses (well that movie as a whole was) and you could tell the writers wrote it and he played it off as his next break into something bigger, but it just came off as lame.

C'mon dude. Have you watched Collateral?
I have.
That's why I brought up the 'lose weight' thing.
Don Cheadle has the innocent black guy going through rough shit, down. Hotel Rwanda, Traitor. Cheadle is just the superior actor in my opinion.

Better actor than Will Smith that's for sure. But what makes him a douche? Never heard anything about that.

Not familiar with the movie at all, 'cuse me.

Sorry, I didn't mean that in a negative way. Just wanted to let you know the script is pretty easy to find if you actually wanted to know.

So this is the slavery pre-Civil War movie Tarantino has wanted to do for so long but was worried that the "politically correct" crowd would shun it?

Day 1!

EDIT - There are people who hate Don Cheadle?

Foxx has only one thing he does in a tense situation. Tilts head and crosses eyes. He does it in every movie.

So..? Leonardo DiCaprio has this constant constipation face with his furrowed eyebrows and everybody loves him for it.

edit: I think the headtilt is badass but it can get a bit ridiculous after a while. I don't think he'll ever drop it though. It IS Jamie Foxx.

No problems with Foxx either, He definitely can do a good job with it.

I'm on the train for this movie. IB was Tatarino's best since the previous decade. He is working with a pretty good concept and script and with Foxx, DiCap, Jackson, and Waltz on board. The acting definitely won't be lacking.

He is not a good actor. He will play the role of Jamie Foxx traveling back in time.

It's a shame people say he is a good actor. It shows how few black actors there actually are in Hollywood if people think that. When you remove the comics and the rappers, there's an absurdly small number of black actors. Jamie Foxx is just a marketing tool, just a face. At least Jackson can act. They might always give him expressive roles, but he can act.
