Samus cameo in Federation Force revealed

I dont get the outrage?

what were you guys expecting? game was never shown as to have her in it, etc

a longer cameo could even make it sting more I guess?

like yeah I get people bummed at the game's reveal but I dont see how the cameo being "lacking" changes how one would feel about this game or make anyone angry? really?

it's a small silly thing

After watching that video and a few others, I'm not really feeling anything. I mean..this game doesn't look good, but at the same time it doesn't actually look completely terrible. *Shrugs*

Kind of off topic, but I keep seeing the whole "There hasn't been a good Metroid game in 10 years" statement. Yeah, I agree if we're talking about Other M, but was Prime 3 a bad game? I own the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii, but haven't gotten around to playing it.

No, Prime 3 is fantastic. It's not as good as 1 or 2 in most areas, but there aren't any games as good as those two in the first place.

People are saying that because it's been 9 years since Prime 3, almost a decade.

Prime 3 is great. Play it.

Prime 3 is amazing. I like it as much if not more than Prime 1.

Can we confirm this? My impressions from the previews is it is local only for the story mode. Which is a very Nintendo thing to do.

We've known the entire game was online since it was first revealed in 2015, give or take a day.
The introduction to Bryyo and it's lore was pretty damn interesting.

I'd say Prime 3 definitely had the most interesting locations in general, probably because the game being split into multiple planets meant that the stories were more condensed and focused (considering FF uses the same multi-planet structure, any backstory drop will probably be done in the same way).

Bryyo's history is the best story in the entire Metroid series.

Bryyo in general is awesome. Everyone says Elysia is their favorite Prime 3 world, but Bryyo is probably mine.

This game feels like Nintendo is just trolling Metroid fans, we get a generic looking game with a weakass cameo from a character we actually care about.

The hyperbole in here is making me sad.
As I posted in the story trailer thread, I picked up the game yesterday and played a few missions. Only played solo, but I like it so far. Small missions, overarching plot. Art style is what it is.
Yes, there is online co-op
Looks like local co-op does not include download play so everyone needs the game.
It feels like Metroid prime lite to me with a mix of monster hunter, but I only beat the first prime game.
Not the trainwreck everyone seems to be hoping for.

Lowkey: the pirate homeworld is the best one. Their decent into madness and idolatry is really fascinating.
By the way, does this game really not have stylus control?

No, which is a little strange. There would be a minor issue in that you use the touchscreen for some non-button interfaces like map beacons, but they could have provided a tab you can swap to to activate touch aiming, just like you do to look at your party or send messages.

Wah, wah, wah. I'm so outraged and I don't even know why.

Who is outraged? People are disappointed that a series that has been mishandled ever since the prime trilogy ended is being used as a familiar name for a dumb party game that looks terrible. There is no "outrage" other than fans of this series sending a clear message that this is not what they want.

Stupid fans what with their thoughts and critiques.

To close your mind about a game before giving it the light of day because they don't get to play as Samus? Yes. That is stupid.

What is coming out of the Metriod community is not Thoughts and Critics, its the screaming of children outraged their dinner's been has something a little different.

This is not "I dunno guys, this doesn't look that great after all this time post Other M." It's wild obscenities, the mass spamming of down-votes not only on Fed Force but on the entirety of that E3 catalogue.

I wish it the best of luck and that it finds that one kid (be that literal or at heart) who will love it like some did Super Metriod.

It really was. I would have loved it if the pirate homeworld was the setting of an entire game (Honestly all of the worlds would be good for that, but the pirate homeworld is the best for it IMO.)

Exploring a planet where all the intelligent inhabitants have been drive crazy by some cosmic horror would be an amazing setting for a Metroid game. Slowly piecing what happened to the locals through environmental storytelling and scanning would be cool. Throw in some light horror elements and I think I'd be in love.

Have you considered that might be because Nintendo's 2015 E3 fucking sucked?

Of course people will defend Nintendo's terrible treatment of the Metroid Franchise.

Didn't you know?

Everything is an attack on metroid fans.

They've become mega man 'fans' all over again.

There literally was a point where some folks were complaining she wouldn't even show up in the game... and now that she has a cameo, they complain it's just a cameo.

As a Metal Gear fan who got trolled hard in MGS2 with Raiden, this is weaksauce trolling if that's Nintendo's aim. Honestly, I'm just waiting for the NX and its unveiling. No Metroid there, THEN I'll pull out my torch and pitchfork.

Oh it is, just not as bizarre as people being big babies about people annoyed by this game and the cameo.
I'm annoyed by your annoyance of people annoyed by those annoyed by the game and cameo.

I'm getting flashbacks to the "Wind Waker is for babies! Nintendo is ruining Zelda! And some people are defending this crap!" era of my life...

Be prepared to pull out your torch and pitchfork then.

Here's the problem. Federation Force is the only Metroid game to release since Other M. Metroid, along with Castlevania, are genre-defining games. They both had such fantastic entries as they went on and to see Castlevania turn into a God of War clone (and eventually Pachinko) and Metroid turn into this is upsetting. Yes, it's such a small thing, but Metroid is important to the industry and people's memories. Nintendo mishandling this franchise is why people are upset. It being reduced to a small spin-off game is why people are upset. Castlevania is already dead. Metroid doesn't need to die too.

I might not be speaking for everyone, but this is how I feel.

That's fine- I'm speaking more about any emotions directed at the cameo which is largely inconsequential given that the game looks like shit.

I'm prepared. But, even then, I won't take it out on Federation Force. Game looks innocuous enough. I'll get in touch with Nintendo directly instead of lobbying my hate bombs at NLG or even Tanabe (the guy is extremely candid that he wants to do a proper Prime 4 and has brought it up constantly, after all).

Give me a fucking break. You guys have been throwing a tantrum over this game since the moment it was revealed. It's been embarrassing.
Here come the waterworks again.

There's nothing more offensive than people thinking a game looks bad. Heaven forbid people think a game looks like ass when it... looks like ass. And continue to think it's ass after playing the demo.

The cameo in and of itself is harmless; people are just mad this game exists at all. Probably the same reason people were mad about XCOM (the one that eventually became The Bureau) back when we thought we'd never get another "real" Xcom game. Once that real Xcom game got announced, no one cared about The Bureau anymore.

Hopefully we get a real Metroid game in the next couple of years, too. Not holding my breath.

Do I even want to see this. Its going to be awful isn't it? Nah I'm not even going to watch it.

EDIT: THAT'S EVEN WORSE THAN I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. WOW.

I'm getting flashbacks to the "Wind Waker is for babies! Nintendo is ruining Zelda! And some people are defending this crap!" era of my life...
If Federation Force turns out to be a great entry to the Metroid franchise then I'll apologize for my post.

To close your mind about a game before giving it the light of day because they don't get to play as Samus? Yes. That is stupid.
I guarantee you there is nobody who has watched footage of this game and thought to themselves, "yes, the biggest problem with this game is that you can't play as Samus."

No amount of Samus can make this game good. And it certainly isn't going to make the art style any less likely to induce vomitting.

I don't disagree. I meant the only way for large sales, would be to put it on PC, Xbox, and PS4 as well as NX. It would garner much larger sales and justify the production and marketing costs.

That's why I mentioned the whole Wipeout situation. That series tended to sell a fair bit better than F-Zero, and that got deep six'd with extreme prejudice. With how much of a tailspin the racing genre has been in since the beginning of this generation, I don't think the appetite is really there for a revival in a subset of the genre that was already selling far worse than other subsets. It's great that there are still people who want F-Zero, especially with how long a legacy GX has enjoyed since its initial sales disappointment, but I really can't see a new entry in that series being economically feasible, to say nothing of any other futuristic racer on any other platform.

I think Star Fox is in a similar boat with how much people don't care for rail shooters these days, but I do think that Star Fox could be successfully spun off into some other kind of action-based flight game if Nintendo really hunkered down and were willing to give it the kind of TLC it would need to break away from those roots.

what if federation force is just to get us talking about metroid more and get it in our minds and wham new metroid prime unveiled for the nx when they unveil the nx :O
