Atonement is one of my favorite movies ever; I was quite sad that she didn't win the Oscar for it. I thought she did a phenomenal job.

I'm still raw about her not being nominated for The Lovely Bones -- it's still her best performance as far as I'm concerned. She would have been the youngest person in history with two Oscar noms to her name, but, sadly, I think the critical and commercial panning the film received upon release quickly sealed her fate in this regard.

She was nominated for a BAFTA again, though, so there's that.

I agree. I actually haven't seen The Lovely Bones (it's on my to-do list I promise) but I've loved everything I've seen her in. I'm quite excited for How I Live Now. Looks great!

Reviews out of TIFF have been mixed, but I'm still greatly looking forward to HILN. An Aussie theatrical release hasn't been confirmed just yet, but I've been keeping an eye on the OFLC website in hope of it being rated ahead of a formal announcement... and on that note, I just hope the honours don't fall to Rialto again -- those bastards pulled the plug on Byzantium's theatrical release just two weeks before it was supposed to start screening.

Edit: A "DVD trailer" has been flagged as Check the Classification. I hope this doesn't mean what I think it means. :(

Her recent DP/30 interview still isn't up (seriously, Poland, chop-chop already!), but here's a 10-minute interview with Film4 (which is virtually unwatchable for me thanks to the player's quality being automated based on detected bandwidth -- just let me choose a quality setting and buffer the clip, for crying out loud) and the US trailer for How I Live Now has also reared its head -- the film hits US theatres (as well as VOD services and iTunes) on November 8th. On a similar note:

While the listing should signify that a theatrical release is not on the cards (trailers for theatrical releases are labelled "35mm trailers"), that's apparently not the case here as the film's Australian distributor has it listed with an "in cinemas" date of November 28th. Hooray!

Outtakes from the Vogue photoshoot earlier in the year:

(Sep. 26) At the Global Sustainability Conference, held in Dublin (which may seem odd, but she's the face of the Origin Green programme):

(Sep. 27) A couple of shots from her interview on the The Ray D'Arcy Show:

(Sep. 27) A few shots with fans at a special pre-release screening of How I Live Now in Dublin:

I don't have the link on hand, but in one of the (many) interviews from TIFF, she was asked about the rumours regarding her supposedly passing on the offer of Scarlet Witch (The Avengers 2), and although her response isn't exactly to the point, she more or less confirms that she didn't get that far into the process.

Edit: Here we go (skip to 2:15):
Was [playing Scarlet Witch] ever something that was really discussed?

Not really. I mean, you know, there's lots of things that always float about and they're kind of fleeting for a second, but you know--

There was not much there?

No.

I soooo wanted her to take the Scarlet Witch character :(

I'll be okay with it if she lands the rumoured lead/major female role in Episode VII as the filming schedules are set to clash. "One door closes, another opens" and all that.

Edit: Here's a new two-minute excerpt from HILN, and Magnolia seems to have kicked off US marketing with this image:

Edit edit: Kevin Macdonald says:
“We originally wanted an unknown and an American, but we just couldn’t find anybody,” he ponders. “Eventually I was persuaded to let her read and I immediately realised what an idiot I’d been. I was blown away. She’s the finest actor I have ever worked with: old, young, male, female.”

Steady on there. In the years since he established himself with the documentaries One Day in September and Touching the Void, Macdonald has worked with Helen Mirren, Russell Crowe, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland. Heck, he directed Forest Whitaker to an Oscar in The Last King of Scotland.

“She has something quite unique,” he continues. “She can express emotion nonverbally in an amazing way. She is also a delightfully mature person who has grown up in the industry and knows how to behave. She is a laugh on set. But she can always turn on that emotion when required.”

Dat praise.

Edit edit edit: Female First has a few short clips from HILN.

Ah, nice update. Was about to post some of the same links.

Wes Anderson wooo!

I finally got around to seeing Moonrise Kingdom a couple months back or so and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think The Life Aquatic is the only film of his I haven't seen in its entirety so I intend to correct that in the near future.

Love The Life Aquatic and Wes in general, just because I saw it with my high school friend who was a film buff. And we got to enjoy it without all the "tumblr-esque" fandom.

I'm a film hipster.

A classy film hipster?

Edit: I loved writing my own stories as a kid, but for whatever reason I didn't develop a strong interest in film until only several years ago and quickly found myself with a keen interest in discovering how they were made, everything from the genesis of the script to how certain shots were achieved. One of if not the primary reason I'm a fan of Peter Jackson is that he puts a lot of time and effort into producing behind-the-scenes content -- Filming The Lovely Bones, which runs for 3 hours, is amazing and well worth purchasing the SE BD for.

I think she'll eventually be an amazing actor/director. It's very apparent of how she looks up to them.

She doesn't seem overly keen on writing her own scripts (Edit: Actually, in this recent interview she's much more positive, probably because she jumped to HTCAM straight after GBH, which were written by Gosling and Anderson respectively) but given who she's worked with and will work with it'll be interesting to see where she draws inspiration from should she make the jump to directing. I really hope she teams up with Alfonso Cuaron one day.

Also, last night I dreamt that I entered this thread to find you banned and the thread locked because people were shitting it up with Dragonball Z images for some reason, haha.

The article mentions that Fox wants to start filming in Q1 next year so she'll have to pass if she gets Episode VII.

How I Live Now was surprisingly good. Saorise virtually carried the whole movie, but her little sidekick/companion was pretty good too...

And maybe I imagined it, but I could have sworn there was a scene where she's running naked through the forest. It was a blink and you'll miss it scene....

It's not out here until the end of November (though I'm hoping I can purchase it from iTunes US in a few weeks), but I've read the BBFC's Insight (content advisory) report since I was curious about the nature of the sex scene and the only other mention of nudity/sex-related content is in regard to the "discreet" sexual assault.

I think I know the scene that description is referring to, but the scene with her in the forest (I think it may have been a dream sequence...won't say more so as not to spoil it), she's definitely naked or wearing very little. It's probably the latter...

I think a re-watch is in order as it's really starting to bug me now...

I seem to remember Jordan saying that Byzantium was originally going to be set in Shanghai, or somewhere in China, but as financing kept falling through, the script was tweaked and the film shot locally instead (well, most of it in Ireland, but also a location in the UK). I've not been able to dig up the source, though, so I'm wondering if I just dreamt it. :p

A few photos (Edit: and here's a brief interview) from the BFI Film Festival (she was a juror this year):

And some photos from her visir to Lorraine Live a couple of weeks ago:

(I figured there'd be a video, but apparently not.)

This thread will probably be rather quiet for a while going forward as HILN is well into the process of hitting theatres and she has no projects lined up until next year (Mary Queen of Scots and maybe Episode VII or Fantastic Four).

She's pretty and has nice eyes but I certainly don't have a JaceC level obsession over her. I'd rather watch her for her acting performances than her looks.

"Obsession" is such a strong and, in this context, negative word; I prefer "enthusiasm". And I'll also add that she being arguably the finest actress of her generation is a large part of why I find her to be awesome, and on that note, I'd say Peter Weir said it most succinctly: She's the "Meryl Streep of our times."

But you're not the first person to erroneously assume, understandably so (I'm acutely aware that, due to my posting habits, some may infer the wrong impression), that I'm some sort of hopelessly-obsessed weirdo, so no hard feelings.
