Brooklyn has been picked up by Lionsgate UK (UK and Ireland) and Transmission Films (Australia and New Zealand -- hooray!) and will presumably release in 2015 (filming is set to begin next Spring). Also tucked away in the article is a mention that the film has an estimated budget of €19m, which is respectable for a drama.

The Dumbledore thing reminded me of something: a presenter on a prominent morning talk/news show here was temporarily suspended after his tongue let slip the ending to the series back in 2007... and the matter of his return was left up to a viewer poll. The network's knee-jerk reaction was ridiculous, to say the least.

Supposedly Fox is courting her to play the protagonist in the big-screen adaptation of Megan Abbott's Dare Me:

Fox 2000 has an offer out to Jennifer Aniston to star in DARE ME, and have their eyes on the young and talented Saoirse Ronan to join her.

Megan Abbott is adapting her own novel, which centers on a cheerleader who finds herself torn when her new cheer coach begins giving her the attention and power normally reserved for her best friend, the team’s cheer captain, creating a rift in the team in the lead-up to a regional competition. If she takes the offer, Aniston would play Colette French, the new, strict cheer coach who takes an immediate liking to Addy, the film’s protagonist, who would be played by Ronan if talks progress. Natalie Portman has previously been mentioned for a role in the film, and although her character specifics aren’t known, it can be assumed it was for the role of Colette. Karen Rosenfelt is producing.

The news is touted as "exclusive", the phrasing leaves room for error, and I'm not familiar with the site's track record, so grain of salt and all that.

But my wife just had to send in her preliminary 2013 award nominations for her film critic association, and she chose Ronan as one of her best actress noms -- on the grounds that Ronan made it possible to finish what was otherwise a totally unwatchable piece of crap. It was still bad, but its being bad made Ronan stand out all the more for being good in it, when nobody else could elevate the material.

Haha, there's no arguing with that reasoning. The film overall is such a mess that I almost regret paying to see it at the cinemas -- if it weren't her first theatrical release since 2011's Hanna I probably would have felt a little ripped off.

I do think it gives the wrong impression, but the one-sheet used to promote the film is just exceedingly dull. How is the look of a disillusioned teenager supposed to interest people?

Byzantium definitely fell victim to this. The promo poster that did the rounds prior to release is actually fairly decent whereas the BD cover looks like it was whipped up in two minutes.

Two clips also recently surfaced but Saoirse's character is in neither of them.

IMDb tells me that the film hits theatres here in Australia on April 10th, which is pleasantly surprising; I was expecting May or perhaps even June. I'll probably catch it over the Easter long weekend (hopefully I don't have to trek into the city for the privilege).

Saoirse will soon be working with fellow compatriot Jim Sheridan:

HE is bringing a movie about his childhood to the silver screen and director Jim Sheridan has secured Saoirse Ronan for the lead.

The six-time Oscar nominee will go into production with Sheriff Street later this year.

And he is certain 19-year-old Saoirse would do the job of playing the lead, Frances, perfectly.

"I always wanted to have Saoirse in it, but casting the father is more difficult because I don't know what age to make him," he told the Herald.

She has spoken in the past of her desire to work with him. I haven't seen Dream House but I didn't mind Brothers despite its heavy-handedness and Maguire's unconvincing over-acting.

It's just her public appearances related to her professional career. I don't "track" photos of her out and about or those that others manage to pinch from her Facebook/Instragram/etc. account or news about what she's been spending her money on or whatever because that would be weird.

Even taking into account her earliest stuff (films, that is -- I don't really have any interest in seeing the half-dozen or so TV episodes she did) I still believe that The Host is her worst film (overall) to date. Andrew Niccol's post-Gattaca downward spiral is as amazing as it is saddening.

Some more news:

Saoirse Ronan and Cynthia Nixon have been set to star in Stockholm, Pennsylvania, a drama scripted and to be directed by Nikole Beckwith. Pic marks her feature helmer debut and production begins next week in Los Angeles. The film is an adaptation of the play, and the script made the 2012 Black List and won the 2012 Nicholl Fellowship and came through the Sundance Screenwriting Lab. Greg Ammon is producing through his banner Fido Features in association with Olympus Pictures’ Leslie Urdang and Dan Halsted.

Ronan stars as developmentally stunted Leia, a young woman raised by a kidnapper who now struggles to acclimate to her actual parents after 20 years of separation. Nixon plays the girl’s grief-stricken mother, who goes to extreme lengths to recapture her daughter’s love. Jason Isaacs plays her captor, and David Warshofsky plays her father.
