Saros Hands-On Previews

Previews need to be more measured in tone. We played for 3 hours and it is GoTY contender is a bit too much. The game seems to be great, not that there was any doubt with Housemarque's pedigree.

It's nice to hear that you can tweak an experience and suffering levels by a lot. Returnal was fast, meaty and brutal but was hard to recommend because it was very rigid, almost like an arcade machine.

Cannot wait.

Just goes to show that gaming journalists these days are brain trained for short games.

Throw them a massive game and they tilt.

And yes I'm comparing these 3 hours in it's GOTY contender to Crimson Desert's 3 hours in, it's an horrible game that many reviewers tried to sell.

Anyway, I'm sure Saros will turn out good.

I bought Returnal on PS5 originally and then on PC later. It played and looked so good on PC. With Sony apparently pulling out of PC ports, that makes me sad for Saros.

The exact issues that held me back from enjoying returnal are being addressed here. This seems just as challenging, but without the frustratingly long retread. And the shield makes a fundamental change to the flow of the game that makes it all fresh. Count me in!

Yeah shame we won't get to play it at 120fps any time soon.

Looks good though but I not sure if I can be arsed with the rogue-like stuff again.

Im still afraid they made it too easy, i didnt find returnal that hard and hearing this is easier makes me a bit sad. Anyway... Really looking forward to play this, because returnal is still the best ps game this gen

I understand this sentiment, but you know pretty quick whether a game like this clicks or not. The gameplay loop is well defined by the 3hr mark

Previewers are not saying it is easier. The ones I have read have said it is harder, as enemies are more aggressive than Returnal

But is not as punishing as Returnal, as runs before saving opportunities are only 20-30min, not 2hrs, like Returnal. Enemy difficulty isn't being toned down

I am apprehensive as I never finished Returnal, I just couldn't nail the loop and id loose interest way before making any progress so I'm hoping this one has an easy mode or something.

Looks great and Ill prolly be there day one, but this will most likely be Housemarques last game. I dont see this selling well at 70 euro price range. I mean look at the video views in general for the game. They're very low and Returnal sold very poorly. Sony fucked them with that price. This would've made tons of money at half that price.

Game isn't expensive. Probably only needs to sell 1mil to break even. Housemarque is a Finnish studio. Much cheaper salaries. Plus, it should review well and maybe be a GOTY contender. That is great publicity for Playstation

They're not in the USA, they'll be fine. I doubt it cost very much.

70 bucks is the same price as Returnal and Sony greenlighted Saros ven with the sales Returnal got. And are you saying at half the price the game could sell more than double? That's...something.

Also the game cost €70M...that's around 80M dollars. The studio will be fine.

Why the fuck did they hired a shitty tv actor for the protagonist tho?

That's a waste of money for a game like this imo.

NOBODY is gonna buy the game because that dude is the protagonist.

I probably wouldn't even have remembered I was there to play the game if I was at that preview event, would've spent all my time flirting with this Marz woman, these things aren't in my control.

Just select a higher difficulty in the options! 🤷

Returnal didn't sell great and Sony greenlit a spiritual sequel too

Times have changed for the worse since Returnal's greenlight. We'll talk in a year or so.

Roguelikes = zero interest.

I'm the same, but I played Returnal and beat the first boss/area without dying, then I died shortly after starting chapter 2, wasn't deterred because I was having fun and then I just had like 3 runs where the RNG went really against me or I just didnt understand how to get by new threats, then when I died a few times to that I lost interest and stopped.

If this game has some way to (OPTIONALLY) tweak things so it lessens the roguelike aspect of it then I'll definitely give this a go.

I used to spend hours in Hitman setting up elaborate events, where it didn't matter you could save at any time because things were set in motion 20 mins prior so if I fucked up I'd have to go back and redo the exact same things again or rerunning Escalations 100x to get it down perfect. That kind of repetition I have no problem with because I know exactly what I have to do and I just fucked up the execution, then the escalations is similar except you can't even save at all, but thats not a problem because its max 5 mins needed to do 99% any of them, usually much less, so its like speedrunning a tiny section of a game.

Probably just have to accept that these games aren't for me, I partly play games as a way to get away from randomness, so have a clear goal or task and I can quiet my mind by getting lost in it.

For me I HATE entire gameplay loop of rougelite/roguelike, I hated as much as F2P gacha games.

And I HATE the fact most devs obsessed with this type of gameplay.
