The CEO cited Microsoft's current Xbox marketing campaign, which shows a wide range of machines, including Xbox consoles, TVs, VR headsets and PCs, and declares "This is an Xbox." Nadella said the campaign is an example of how the company is "redefining what it means to be an Xbox fan: it's about being able to enjoy Xbox on all your devices."

He's not wrong if we're talking about Xbox as a publisher, but in reality it's all just Microsoft and no one would like to call themselves a 'Microsoft fan'; it all sounds lame, "do you like really Windows so much?".
 
I don't understand the strategy of microsoft/xbox anymore. I truly think that they're in desperation mode and just throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks because they're out of ideas. I think call of duty on gamepass was truly the last strategy they had to grow gamepass and now that it's failed they know they're screwed and pivoting.

Xbox is no longer a console, but a "platform". They need to stop saying, "Everything is an Xbox," and start saying, "Xbox is on everything." That would make more sense.
 
The headline (and thread title) makes it sound like he's saying you have to play on all your devices to be an Xbox fan.

That's not what he said at all though. He just said it's about "being able to".

Twisting what he said makes this absolute nothing burger sound more like an actual story though.

They are biding their time until new consoles from other companies arrive like Valve and Nintendo.
 
as microsoft continues to say and do weird crap like this as xbox rides off into the sunset, we must now take this time to ponder and reflect
 
And Xbox goes out not with a bang but a whimper.

PlayStation's exclusives really do very little for me, so depending on what hardware Xbox offer up I may still buy in because I like gaming in my media room. But I guess this is their official way of saying they're 100% third party now. All that's left is Halo CE Remake on PS5 and we can close the book.

On the contrary, he's been great by allowing it to exist. After so many years of failure he could have pulled the plug, but instead he even opened his wallet and parted with 80 billion. Naturally after that something had to change which we are seeing now.
 
They should just fully say they are no longer focusing on the hardware business and becoming a publisher at this point. They are really dragging this process out.

On the contrary, killing Xbox after it proved itself the runt of the litter is one of the best moves MS has made in a while.

Little doubt in my mind that he let Phil have such a long leash in order to hang himself with it.

Yeah, Nadella has been really good for my portfolio. I still think Xbox division is full of 🤡, but can't argue with stock performance.

It's just their bread and butter isn't Xbox, Surface Hardware or even increasingly consumer side of Windows itself.
 
If Xbox is a service and not a console, it would still require exclusives to that service to be called "xbox games." Otherwise they are just multiplatform games.

If I had to guess the purchase of ABK and Christmas 2023 was the death knell for Xbox. They put that thing on firesale and no one gave a fuck. Phil lost the internal war that season.
