Satya: Being an Xbox fan means playing Xbox on "all of your devices"

They’re trying to change the narrative from Xbox being a failure to this new transition being some kind of strategy they’ve had all along.
Not likely. This is called adaptation, and its what businesses do. Xbox couldn't maintain its platform after Mattrick gutted it and Spencer failed to rebuild it. So, now its becoming something else. No one from Microsoft is claiming this is a 4D chess move on the cards since the OG Xbox. They're just adapting to what's happening. Microsoft have managed to do what neither Apple, Amazon, nor Google could do: get a foothold in the video game industry. They clearly don't want to let it go and are prepared to do whatever is necessary to keep it - including becoming a third party publisher.

It's like they think if they continue saying "this is the future" then everyone will eventually fall in line, it's amazing that they are willing to do anything EXCEPT make great video games for their console.

Microsoft is trying to look to the future to redefine what gaming on Xbox is like. I just feel like it is a bit "too soon" since streaming games still isn't a very good alternative to simply downloading and playing your games. It needs to be like music streaming where it is just as easy to download or stream the music to the point where most people don't even care if they "own" their music.

Putting their games on all platforms is a bold move. A move I did not expect them to make. They've certainly tip toed their way to doing it and I think they are still playing it a little safe. They should always put out console hardware to set the stage for their ecosystem and then license out their "Xbox" platform (it is their DNA). If it is part PC, then it will just become very easy to do.

Oh, do get fucked. PC users have Steam, console gamers have Playstation and Nintendo, everybody else has IOS and Android.

You fucked it mate.

Time to just admit that and go third party with just games, before you waste any more money failing to take on the other platforms. Nobody wants to play using your shitty app.

they're still trying to sell consoles... i think? it's hard to tell. but they're definitely still making them.
I wouldn't say so, considering how he said and formulated everything. They are already trying to sell Xbox not as a console but as a service for many devices.

By the way I believe in the power of the cloud & think Microsoft has something amazing on the way they just have to sell it & not give up too soon because once it kicks into high gear the publishers like Epic & Take 2 will realize that they can do this on their own & sell the game/service directly.

I agree. Xenia is working pretty well for me literally xbox on a PC.
That’s not Microsoft’s doing. For their ”This is an Xbox” ad to make sense they need to have an emulation layer for Xbox, 360, XB1, XBS games on all of the platforms they claim are Xboxes. Should have access to the same games as Series consoles, otherwise it’s not an Xbox since you need a real Xbox to play your previous purchased Xbox games.

the power of marketing will be a deciding factor

So it's the same as being a Atari, Sega or SNK. joining the group of failed console manufcaturers who still release games.

What your telling me is your a third party developer/publisher who will put their games on anything that moves. Except you want to somehow hold onto that subscription base and membership profits.

Such confusing messaging.

🤔 i wonder how this "revelation" will impact such momentum and optimism.

i find fascinating that a lot of Xbox people were still under the illusion about only a few "case by case" games being ported to PS. Surely when Halo, Gear or Forza are announced there is not going to be drama, right?.
The bigger question will be when certain people will finally realize that the 'console-war' ended with the Xbox Business Update back in february?

Have you used any cloud service?
I have and latency is actually not the big issue, it’s just what people always talk about. The real issue is the player queues. Having to wait in a queue to play a game instantly kills all hype for cloud gaming for me. Imagine having to wait in a queue to watch the next episode of Silo on Apple TV+. That’s where cloud gaming is around the release of new games. And Xbox cloud is also the lowest of the low of cloud gaming. Nvidia’s Geforce Now is fairly competent specs wise but it’s too expensive and they’re limiting playtime in an attempt to sort out queues, which are still there. It just doesn’t work. Yet.

If everything's an Xbox, nothing is an Xbox.
chat GPT explaining the philosophy behind it.

From a philosophical point of view, this statement echoes the paradox of universality and ties closely to existentialist and semiotic ideas. Here's a breakdown:

  1. Paradox of Universality:
The statement implies that if the term "Xbox" is applied universally to everything, it loses its distinctiveness and meaning. This aligns with the philosophical notion that concepts need boundaries to retain their identity. Without differentiation, a term becomes void of specificity, collapsing its own definition.
  2. Semiotics (Study of Signs and Meaning):
Language and meaning depend on contrast. For "Xbox" to mean something, it must be distinct from "PlayStation," "Nintendo," or even non-gaming objects. If everything is labeled "Xbox," the term ceases to function as a meaningful signifier.
  3. Existentialist Angle:
The statement reflects how identity is defined in relation to others. For example, in Sartrean philosophy, objects and beings derive meaning through their difference and context. Without contrast, the concept of "Xbox" as a unique entity dissolves into absurdity.
  4. Comparative Notion in Ontology:
Ontologically, the statement touches on the idea that existence is defined through relationships. If "Xbox" lacks boundaries (because it applies to everything), it undermines its essence as a distinct category of being.

In essence, the phrase suggests that overgeneralization leads to the erasure of uniqueness, rendering the concept void—a cautionary reflection on identity, categorization, and meaning.

r

such a simple slogan has so much profound weigh behind it. Just like "Beta Tested In The Future".

That's because they're taking the wrong approach, in my opinion it should be used like the arcade back in the day giving people something that they can't get at home yet & not as a replacement for home consoles.

Get with Sega or Capcom have them make games that's not on home consoles yet & charge to play the game for a few years until home consoles are powerful enough to run the game natively.
