Microsoft: "We're only bringing some of our titles to other platforms."
NeoGAF: "Microsoft are lying! It'll be every game! They always lie! Everything they say is a lie!"

Microsoft: "We're going to continue to bring some of titles to other platforms."
NeoGAF: "God himself has never spoken a more objectively true statement. This is beyond question."

Never change, GAF.

That's mainly because of how often Phil lies.
You can only believe someone for so long. So it's not wonder that people don't trust Phil anymore.

As for this statement, it's from Nadella. It's addressed to shareholders( lying to them generally has consequences, unlike lying to your fanbase). Nadella, unlike Phil, isn't a closet console warrior and he really doesn't have a reason to lie.

Is it really hard to believe why people think one is a liar and the other is not?.

Xbox games will continue to come, one at a time.

But Satya is not giving us any new information here, IMO.
It’s not his job to announce things, it’s Sarah Bond or Phil Spencer. And they’re silent as usual.

MS have no idea how to do PR and control the talk around their platform or IPs. Nobody is getting satisfied from vague talk like we hear here.

* Should console gamers originally on Playstation who’re interested in some Xbox IPs invest in a Xbox or stay on only PS5 and be in this begging mode phase and just sit there waiting for games to arrive, possibly, some day, maybe?

* Should console gamers originally on Xbox stay on only Xbox or invest in PS5/Pro and wait for Xbox games to possibly some day maybe arrive there?

Nobody knows, there are rumours of this and that but there is no definite way to plan ahead no matter where you originally were. Even on PC things are vague since there is no official solution for older games with no PC ports that people might have in their Xbox library.

If what is true? He didn't actually say anything.

Sometimes what people don't say.....says the most.
The only time he mentioned Xbox

You should see how often he mentioned GamePass.
But he did mention being excited about bringing games to other platforms twice.

I mean.....he even mentioned the consoles for Playstation and Nintendo and (again) didn't even mention the Xbox console or Game Pass.

That's not normal.

Yes normally MS won't mention direct competitors. Everything must be kum ba ya up there.

No Xbox Call of Duty Bundle tells you exactly how Microsoft views their console. At a minimum, Call of Duty should be plastered on every Xbox as an advertisement for Gamepass. That's if they truly want to sell the console and platform

Unless there is some clause in the acquisition deal preventing this, I don't understand why they wouldn't.

Not quite. Executives for a publicly traded company are legally prohibited from lying about the investment prospects of their business endeavours - lying about things like Game Pass being profitable, for example, is illegal, because it misrepresents their financial position. However, there is no law that forces a company to stick to its projected business plans in letters to shareholders. If Microsoft decides "Fuck it, no more games on PlayStation" there is precisely zero repercussions for this regardless of Nadella's statements here. He may be asked to explain the decision on an investor call, but given Microsoft's overall performance under his leadership, he's got a very, very long leash from Microsoft's investors.
Is it really hard to believe why people think one is a liar and the other is not?.
Yes, because those same people selectively believe Microsoft when it suites whatever story they're telling.

Microsoft: "We're already working hard on the next Xbox hardware."
NeoGAF: "They're lying. Microsoft will never make more Xbox hardware and will release everything on PlayStation."
Microsoft: "We're going to pick titles on a game-by-game basis for multiplatform release."
NeoGAF: "They're lying. They're discontinuing their hardware and releasing everything on PlayStation."
Microsoft: "We're going to continue to release some of our games on other platforms."
NeoGAF: "This is 100% true. Except he meant to say they're releasing everything on PlayStation... and discontinuing their hardware."

They obviously will continue expanding to the other consoles.

The Xbox consoles sales are dying, and looking at the amount of people who worked in games like CoDMW3 (over 9000 people), Diablo IV (around 9000 people) or Starfield (around 4000 people), just with GP and a few sales in Xbox or mostly PC won't be enough.

They obviously need the game sales from PS and (in cases where the game fits and makes sense) Switch if they want to grow their business and make it sustainable.

And on top of this, they need to avoid giving away day one -at least their big games- on GP, specially in the tiers that aren't the most expensive one.

It's just bizarre if there are restrictions around COD. For instance, with COD, Xbox's youtube channel advertises Gamepass for PC and Xbox but Activision's channel doesn't. TV ads don't mention Xbox or Gamepass either. If there are restrictions, it seems to be quite elaborate about what is allowed and what isn't

But yeah, maybe there has to be something in place. COD bundles print money. Playstation seemingly had them every year when they had marketing

He only mentioned Windows twice and both times it was about AI devices nothing to do with the OS itself. Doesn't mean that they are giving up on the PC OS market.
They aren't going to highlight the xbox console, because it is has fallen hard and it is also a money sink. You don't highlight your failures when you are trying to sell your company to investors.

i dont think phil lies. he is just constantly given marching orders that seem to change week by week. he was given the directive to squeeze every nickel out of the gaming sector and the most profitable path is just being a 3rd party publisher when you have such a large and unwieldy collection of studios to manage. bean counters must have figured its worth foregoing the 30% storefront cut of being a platform holder to chase larger audiences.

The problem is that folks are rightfully going to expect him to be true to his words. So I think the fact that he has to answer to folks who are pressing him to make profits is completely understandable, but he is the one who decides to say the stuff he says. Bottom line, imo, is he just talks too much and puts himself on a pedestal that is easy for folks to knock over when his words and actions don't line up.

It's far easier to believe business daddy, instead of step-son Phil who just stole business daddy's credit card.
Yes, Nadella had no idea they were buying Activision until he got the credit card bill. Very awkward for all involved when the bill showed up in leather-bound editions.

Some people do that in this forum, yes. But Microsoft showed us twice exactly how fast they can lie to us and have to change course when reality hit the door.
First was the red ring of death, denied then admitted. But the Xbox one debacle was even better in that regard. We can't cut the camera. It's not that easy. It was when they had to.
This generation, Microsoft tried to sandwitch the PS5 between 2 consoles. It failed to do better than Microsoft previous generation. They tried to tell us that they had lot of games, and got a one year silence followed by Redfall, their first next gen only game. After last year PR fiasco, and the business update event, we have good reasons to think that if the console business is in such dire traits that they need to sell their games in others platforms it is logical to believe that most of their future games can go to those platforms. The reason that made them be in this path are still there after all.

Or even the claim that Phil Spencer made that it would be "just four games" that were being ported to other consoles and that their fundamental approach to exclusivity wasn't changing. That was just 8 months ago and it was bullshit.

I'm not saying there was no idea. But at some point, Nadella has to rationalize this to the shareholders. Which is where the honesty comes into play. Something Phil hasn't been forced to do, thus far.

Of course he would. And the rationale is it allows them to expand into mobile, PS and Nintendo. Specifically by way of COD which they now collect a 70% cut of every copy sold on PS.

Not exactly a bitter pill to swallow for investors.

Yeah. I think they are slowly trickling out the news because it’s less painful to dedicated Xbox consumers.
