That's cruel. How could he not have taken it under consideration that she may not look like what he imagined. You think this would be a regular occurrence.
You think this would be a regular occurrence.
So is she screwed in her life now that she's divorced? Will it be harder for her to find a husband now? Is she like a second class citizen since she's been divorced? I confess I'm pretty ignorant to this part of Saudi life.
What?Yup, she's likely going to be a second wife to a middle aged man, or marry an old widower.
What?
If this is true then SA is disgusting place to live in.It's the truth.
Reminds me of a classic episode of Woody Woodpecker.
LOL
How does the guy know what a woman is supposed to look like, don't all women (evil tourists aside) there wear burkas?
Probably an Afghan Girl then and now situation
eh, understandable i guess.
that is so sad.
Image on left is so iconic, amazing what a few years will do. Lighting in the second one isn't doing her any favors though.
It was pretty regular during this era, well...to my circle of friends at least;
Still...what an asshole to laid out in front of her like that.
I think her expression in both shots represent the quintessential, "I've seen some shit" glare. One can only imagine. Much sadness in those eyes.Thread is a graveyard.
Btw, everyone including childish racists and misogynists and a couple of just ill-thought-out jokesters, should read the Afghan girl's story, in Nat Geos follow-up a few years ago and you'll have more empathy for her expression.
And she is precisely as hauntingly beautiful "old" as she was young.
well, at least he has been honest
Nearly 30 years isn't a "few". Why are people so shocked by this?
It's called aging, which doesn't help her case being worse than others considering the stress she's endured all her life.
"Sharbat [Gula] has never known a happy day, her brother says, except perhaps the day of her marriage."

I thought you could at least see the face or some parts of the face of your prospective partner in most muslim countries ?
If you can't even see that then on what basis do you chose someone ? The quality of their burka ?
That makes no sense...
What an asshole, it took him only a few minutes to ruin someone's life.
I'm all for every Saudi woman bringing a gun on their wedding day, just to make sure there are no surprises from immature assholes.
On the right is the girl on the left 30 years later.
Yeah, "shouldn't" should be "should".
Wat. He's an asshole, but he doesn't deserve to die.

Actually only 17 years later (first photo was taken when she was about 13, the second when she was about 30).
No, she was 16/17 in the picture on the left, and in her late 20's/early 30's on the right, IIRC. She was 13 when she got married, though. That's a 13 year old!? Fuck my life...

Lmao. How is this not a headline every day?
It happens in Saudi arabia, but there is a significant portion of families whom are super conservative.
If this is true then SA is disgusting place to live in.

She remembers the moment. The photographer took her picture. She remembers her anger. The man was a stranger. She had never been photographed before. Until they met again 17 years later, she had not been photographed since.
She is 28, perhaps 29, or even 30. No one, not even she, knows for sure.
Looks 13 to me. Absolutely amazing picture.
Also, OP's story sounds bogus tbh. Some random blog posting a hilarious story? Eh, I dunno about that.
