Well, I went because a ticket is only like $7.89 on tuesdays. Made the mistake of opting for a seat by the middle so I can put my feet up...Still had to crane my neck up a little, best seats are always the ones towards the back maybe three to four rows in front of the top row but anyway,

The film itself was pretty underwhelming tbh. This was the best Disney could do??? I watched the entire end credits, took about ten or twelve minutes to finish and I was thinking, "All these resources and people on the job, and this is best that they could do?"

I'll admit, the cinematography is pretty damn great. The fight where Rey was jumping over crashing waves of the ocean hitting the structure while fighting Kylo Ren was great. Palpatine's sheer power within his orders was done well. Rey's character was actually extremely well done imo, I loved how she was one with everything and my favorite scene is when she bravely healed that wounded creature that most everyone would instinctively consider a mortal enemy and that's it. But she went beyond instinct, she regarded life as life and saw clear the big picture of everything. I liked those things about this film. And I liked how Rey and Finn looked sharper as in less fat, in better shape for their roles. I could tell, and they looked more heroic so I for one appreciate that they took their appearance seriously

But there are just so many things that were mediocre about this movie. Kylo was such a lukewarm villain. He was always conflicted and they always had him going back and forth tbh. It could have been done better. His first confrontation with Rey he simply went to see her only to watch her go flee from him, with ease...

All in all, I'm glad there were some charming moments, because honestly these new Star Wars films are so mediocre. I actually thought the very first trailer I saw of ROS is far greater than the movie itself, which is crazy to think, but I believe it to be so. I'll post the trailer



At least the trailer used absolutely incredible music with excellent timing to capture an epic moment. In the film, everything was just flat, sometimes corny, sometimes dull, nothing all that impressive to be honest. I liked the trailer but the film itself was just a very long story, sort of vague adventure that never really enthralled me

The scene where Kylo cuts Snoke in half and him and Rey team up is the best scene in the entire ST. Not because of the 'fight sequences' or cinematography or whatever; but what it meant for the future of the saga. It made it very interesting for all of 10 minutes before he went bad again and I gave up.

My brother went to see TROS on its last week of showing and thought it was okay, and he hated TLJ. Maybe I will go see it on Blu-ray.

I think TLJ have really left a bitter taste and probably cost TROS its box office potential.

im one of those fans, i was there from the beginning. the entire ST was a letdown from the start. ROS works for me because the first two films lowered the bar so much. TFA set the standard: the sequel trilogy is going to be a poor soft reboot of the OT. TLJ reinforced that by talking a new game but still falling back on the old nostalgia. ROS is just the natural conclusion of having no imagination.

i did not see ROS in theaters because i was not going to be fooled a third time. i knew they were not interested in storytelling. just shoving the action figures and spaceships they purchased on screen. if i want SW nostalgia i can watch the old movies. so i stayed home for Solo and stayed home for this.

I was supposed to go see this over the Christmas holidays with my work buddy who I saw the other 2 with, and we both just have such apathy for the franchise now that we never bothered and neither of us cares at all to make plans to see it anymore. We're just going to rent it when it's released on home video probably to close out this nightmare. I watched the MauLer takedown and I feel like I get the idea.

Rogue One was a bore with wooden characters, both a sin for a SW movie. It was a decent flick but not a good SW flick. At least Solo (which I haven't seen) seems to have personality.

All Disney has going for it I guess is Mandalorian and Jedi Fallen Order.

Yeah, like you said, those were interesting 10 minutes, before the movie went to shit again.
I remember having a slight feeling of hope that now something interesting and emotionally great might happen, but then RJ Roundhead let it all go to oblivion again, and in the end it's just that horrible pool of poo.
What a waste of a movie.

That being said, I liked the movie, it did what it had to do, and it ended, which I think I am most grateful for. It's over, done. We can all move on.

Emperor was fine. it would have worked better if they had planned it from the start. imagine if the Kylo Ren in Mustafar stuff was at the end of TLJ. would nullify all the "they are just pulling this out at the last minute" complaints. then again they would have had to... not do that...

for me, it worked, and jumping into the middle of things, even dropping him in the title crawl, i felt was an infinitely more SW way to start the movie than the previous film. the way the previous films set things up tho, it defeinitely felt like an artificial last minute decision.

TLJ really shot them in the foot. Snoke as a new villain would have worked. he headed the First Order, he destroyed Luke's new Jedi order, he defeated the new republic, all the hard won victories from OT swept away. he turned the last Skywalker to the dark side and created a Death Star X10. and when we want to know how or why? "shut up, stupid fanboy, Snoke is a nothing character"

JJ was really left with nowhere to go. everyone in the mainstream media apparently loved the idea that "Snoke is a nobody" and "we don't need the backstory". the idea that we don't need any context for any of this, we should just shut up and watch things on a screen.

Noo, don't reveal Palatine up until like the third act. Build it up during the film instead of having a fetch quest. Then have finale showdown with Kylo, Rey, Ghost Luke AND Ghost Anakin all take down Sidious together. (prequels fucked over Anakin/Hayden , so this way we could have at least 1 great scene of father and son fighting beside each other, I'd like that lol)

I'd probably feel very different if the film took that route, because TRoS is very visually interesting and impressive, but that's it - hollowest of plots and no unexpected surprises.

After TLJ Luke saying Rey went straight to the darkside (in that pit thing) and her other displays of darkness I think there's a good set up for her being a Palpatine, but that alone isn't enough, and it's basically all we got for "plot reveals" in the whole saga lol

I personally can't wait to see someone try to reassemble the November 2hr 37min cut with the deleted scenes once the BD comes out. It's so obvious so much got cut at the last minute.

It was all watered down. Palpatine was the true villain, yet what did he really do in that film? His attempt was weak, his plan was very poor and it in turn made Rey a lesser heroine for it. If She were to overcome a highly complex and calculated Palpatine with a brilliantly executed plan, the film could have been salvaged. But nothing was very important or well said in that film

The best moments, were of Rey's kindness and love for her people and others of all walks of life. I did like the teamwork aspect of the film at times too. But overall, I feel like they tried to hit for too much and didn't really do anything particularly well outside of the technical aspects of film-making, as others have already pointed out. The cinematography was excellent

My Rise of Skywalker part 1 rant after finally watching this the other night.

This movie was a flaming piece of dog shit. Within the first 15 minutes Abrams resorts to yet again another Falcon turret sequence and it's like we're supposed to clap like fat people eating at cracker barrell slurping that shit up.

There's a fucking booger monster inside the Millennium Falcon that's never been shown before but everyone is all buddy, buddy around and acts like they've been friends for a long time. He's like the fucking Poochie of the Millennium Falcon except the movie just expects you to know who he is.

Emotional Karen is out training in the woods, it's a Dagobah rip off except nowhere near as good nor nuanced. It doesn't help that Rey's character arc is trash from an emotional standpoint where she's still the same character she was in TFA where Luke has a clear progression of character that matures as the OT progresses.

We get a cringe worthy forced dialogue sequence between Poe and Rey which goes on for way too long.

lol there's a fucking awful CG looking Mon Calimari dude speaking up in this meeting. Return of the Jedi came out 36 fucking years ago, could you really just not make another suit?

+1, This is basically my stance on this.

In the end, TRoS is a huge piece of shit, but got its heart in the right place, at least.
It felt like a Star Wars movie, and you could sense where they initially wanted to go with the sequels. They just didn't have any time to develop any of this over more time, since TLJ did its own thing.

I guess I am done with movie Star Wars. Mandalorian has rekindled my love for the SW universe a bit, though.
Disney can thank Favreau for saving their asses.

Emperor had to come in. They only had one plan for the ST, to leverage OT assets in the most profitable way possible. This is why Luke appears at the end of the first film. Through marketing they guaranteed people would see the second and want to see what happens. Storytelling through marketing.

When Rian killed Snoke he took away the only new character who had a connection to what went on in the past, what took us from ROTJ to TFA. Snoke was said by the actor to be much older, and likely had a mysterious backstory.

Rian took that away and it created a vacuum. They had to have a new villain.

Kylo Ren would never work as the true villain, mainly because Rian neutered his effectiveness throughout TLJ. He is not an effective villain to be pure evil, no matter what idiocy Rian put into Luke & Leia’s mouths towards mortally condemning a family member. He spends too much time pouting and milking the redemption line not to go through with it. Besides they have to satisfy all the Reylos who made endless gifs from the finger touching scene. Rey believed he could be saved and she is basically the incarnation of God so of course that was going to happen in the end.
