Scalper bots are gradually starting to lose interest in the PlayStation 5, a report by a bot detection specialist has suggested.

Netacea has published its latest 'Quarterly Index' on the top five products targeted by scalper bots, this time covering the third quarter of 2022.

For the first time since it was released, the PlayStation 5 no longer appears among the list's top three positions.

However, it does still sit at number 4, suggesting it remains an important target for bots, even if its value is slipping slightly.

People will always exploit something for quick and easy money. As time goes on people will eventually acquire a PS5, there is no rush. I already have 2 and they are barely played, so as for my Switch and SX, just waiting for the games to come out.

Just in time for Chrimbo, In the UK it is just pretty much in stock now so sales should be huge.

Plenty of stock and not gapping out will give them the best chance to hit 18 mill.

Lots of people on my PSN friend list have them now and stock comes in often. Also it's not like the PS5 is inundated with must-have exclusives either.

They've been in stock all week on ps direct and a lot of retailers are getting them also. Sony said they withheld over 3 million extra units last quarter,, so those units plus the 6 million they will produce this quarter and yeah…no reason to pay resellers anymore.

That's nice, but the problem is here to stay.

The ps5 launched more than TWO YEARS AGO, and you still can't walk into a store and just buy one. Absolutely insane.

Of course they will because more and more consoles are available.Scalpers do only good when there is barley any consoles. So many consoles available game over scalpers

This "bot detection" specialist is a bot trying to make other bots lose interest so it can dominate the market.

I've seen PS5s at my local Target the last 3 times I've been there. They're definitely pretty widely available at this point.

It would be good if availability could match demand and scalpers didn't exist, but unfortunately fourth place is still very high so we're still far away from the "losing interest" phase.

Dude thanks so much!

I have been waiting since launch day, as I wanted to buy my PS5 for retail price, and I have never seen it at Wal-Mart or Target. After reading your comment, I went to PS-Direct and was able to order the Blu-Ray edition (I don't want the digital one, and it is sold out anyway on PS-Direct) for $499 + $30 tax and free shipping (2-4 days). I just got an email confirmation from Sony.

I can't believe I'm finally going to be able to get a PS5!

Last I checked like half a year ago, PS5's were going for like $700 with free shipping. After fees and the cost to pay for shipping out of pocket, that's like a $70 profit.

What morons are selling for a <15% profit on a high ticket item like that, that is likely going to attract scammers by the boatload?

Edit:
Maybe flippers are stupid or something, but even flippers selling the RTX 4080 for $1600 and flippers selling the RTX 4090 for $2000 aren't making that much of a profit (maybe $100 to $300 per card).

Again, these are super high price items and it just doesn't make sense to try and flip these at such crap profits.

There are over 100 4080s in stock at the closest Microcenter to me. The number went up because they got a shipment of 25+ ASuS Tuff Ripoff cards for 1400.

Very true! But like Series X, the back compat benefit is real and people want the shiny new thing.

Yeah it's still worth getting the newer systems imo, especially if you have a decent amount of games. Running PS4 games on PS5 is simply a much more pleasurable experience due to the quietness, faster loading and increased performance.

My local Walmart has been getting weekly series X shipments since august but I was told yesterday that they are now getting 12 ps5 a week starting last week so its definitely improved stock across the board. they actually have a spot for ps5's on the shelf now.

My local Walmart have actual shelf space for ps5s now too, if this holiday season brings the ps5 in line with the ps4 it should be readily available and well finally see how much demand there really is for it (my guess more or less the same as ps4)

I'd wager thats because sony underdelivered units more than it had some unimaginable demand 15% less units than ps4, during a time of spiked demand (covid caused about a 30% demand spike), once this holiday is over and supply normalize with the covid spike a memory ps5s will be instock everywhere

1st stop, Demons Souls. Dont listen to anyone else. It's a must!
Believe it or not, my first stop is actually going to be Cyberpunk 2077. I pre-ordered the game for PS4 (and even bought the physical copy of the strategy guide), but I never played it on PS4 because of all of the negative reviews of the previous gen versions of the game. The PS5 version (particularly after the next gen patch) has gotten a lot of positive attention here, so I am hopeful that this is will be an impressive first game for me on the PS5.

Ayy man welcome to the party. Get Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank, and Returnal!

It's a good call though, even with all the negative press it got it was a grand game when looked at as a whole, I bought it for the Series X, not going to lie it was rough at the start but if you can see the scope it's going for it's a well worth it buy whatever console you're getting it on :)

Try Demons though, even on the Ps3 it was an excellent game.

It's because of how quickly they flip and scammers aren't an issue.
