[GameRant.com] Fable Leak Suggests Disappointing News for Fans // Reportedly in danger of slipping into 2027

I have a feeling this may get cancelled along with State of Decay 3. Both have been nowhere to be found in terms of progress. Looks like MS is incapable of ruining their studios effectively and just fail over and over. Matt Booty is terrible and should have been sacked along with Phil long ago.

Never heard of this fella, does anyone have some knowledge of his track record?

Very disappointed if true. Fable and Blade are the only things Xbox had left in the oven that I was excited about.....just nothing but bad news out of MS lately.

Pretty sure you were around back when he posted here. He was just a huge fanboy. Started an Xbox pod at some point and got into the xb fanboy->influencer pipeline like klobrille or crapgamer. Info is not reliable.

Thanks man, I appreciate the information. I probably was around when he was, but so many have come and gone that I can't keep track anymore -_-

Let em help you… I payed for game pass to play certain games that were promised or advertised to releases in a certain time frame. 1yr sub is $200+ and now games I've paid to get my hands on from this service keeps getting delayed or cancelled yet my money is not being fully refunded for waiting. If that makes cents?
Don't pay for the sub until the games you want come out. Easy solution.

AAA development is a nightmare. Even conservatives sequels takes years to come (4 years between GoW and Ragnarok or Remake and Rebirth; 5 between games like Tsushima and Yotei, DS and DS2, Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Eternal and Dark Ages...). And thats for big publishers: Warhorse took 7 years to published KCD2 after released KCD.
Most of those games released in good shape so it's not all bad. I still remember there was massive concern trolling with those games because of xbox delays. Huge bet thread for GoW delay due to Redfall/Starfield delay. Yet GoW released and people lost that bet. Thread about Fable being a game that's a long way out (because they hadn't hired a writer and showed CGI) so xbox fans concern trolled another mirror thread about HFW being a long way out because Guerilla were hiring too. I wonder how those people feel now that it has been 3 more years since HFW's release. Will they actually self-reflect on all that concern trolling and accept those people were right?

Microsoft really did accidentally release a great console with the Xbox 360 didn't they? Pretty much everything else they've ever touched has been so poorly managed.

Wasn't this originally announced like 10 years ago now

I'm sure it will be finished in 2035 if it's not cancelled first
It was around the summer of 2016 that it started to be rumored that Playground Games might be tackling a non-Forza, open-world game, which was then confirmed by 2017 and, later that year, Eurogamer reported that it was a Fable reboot that they were working on, with the game being first announced at the 2020 Xbox Games Studios Showcase and not shown in any real-time capacity until the 2023 Xbox Showcase -- seven years after it's inception, and two years later, it still hasn't come out.

What a shitshow.

I don't even blame the devs on this one. This one is completely on Microsoft.

-Alright bros, we have this great studio that makes decent car games.
-Oh, so we're making them do another one?
-Nah, bro... They'll make an action rpg.
-But boss, they have never made an rpg before...
- Sounds great, give them the Fable IP!!
-I'm not sure about this, boss.
-Do you want to get fired?
- An RPG sounds great, boss!!
of course its on ms, they cant manage shit.
even their car-game-studio wasted 7 years to release a broken car game.
same shit with flight sim, halo, all the cancellations.
getting out a polished product under these morons is the exception, which still wouldn't save you from layoffs and closures.

Elaborating on this claim, Baker said that it's not meant to imply "doom, gloom, 'argh, there's something wrong with the game' [type of] problems." Instead, he framed the potential second delay as the unavoidable side effect of the somewhat unpredictable nature of complex software development. "[I am] just hearing that it's taking a bit longer than they expected," he explained
Yeah no, the industry is fucked. AAA franchises are essentially dead at this point when you've got development cycles that are longer than an entire generation and most games end up being cancelled anyway.

Fable was one of Microsoft's biggest IPs, easily selling 10 million per (mainline) game.
And if you were there when they were dropping you would know the reception to them.

Fable 1 "well this didn't deliver anything close to the pitch, but it was basic and inoffensive. Makes us hyped for the sequel!" Charitable 8.5 because it showed gumption and had chickens.
Fable 2 "damn. still didn't deliver anything close to the pitch, but it was basic and inoffensive. Makes us hyped for the sequel!" Very charitable 9 because the graphics got better and the girls we hired could finish it without help.
Fable 3 "there's always next gen!" 7

XBone arrives. Peter Molyneux rebrands as Stephen Molyneux and becomes a center-right self-help guru. Xbox dies a sad death and pulls half the industry down with it. Fable IP kills the last functional studio they have. f in the chat

Everwild - cancelled

Microsoft and SIE both announced 9 games on their respective events, and SIE had already managed to release all of them 4 months before Microsoft even released its third title from that showcase. Microsoft also ended up cancelling one title from the list this year (Everwild), while there is still one game left to release (Fable).
