[GameRant.com] Fable Leak Suggests Disappointing News for Fans // Reportedly in danger of slipping into 2027

No way same studio will be able to launch FH6 and Fable in same year.

Xbox should set realistic goals for its studios.
I has solution! ☝🏻🤓

You make a racing game with Fablesque characters, or a Action-RPG with cars.

Problem solved. And it was MS the one to solve it.

I asked Copilot, so I guess it's official design. 🤓🤌🏻

Looking forward to it releasing. Love the first game and liked snippets of the game I have seen in the trailers.

Microsoft has one single first party studio who has not just delivered this gen but blown past expectations. That studio is Playground Games. So what do they do? Oh just task them with rebooting a franchise that never met expectations in the best of times with its original developer. By the way, it's in a completely different genre than the studio has ever worked with and the Xbox brand will be depending on it to be the tentpole release of the year.

It's really not too late to cancel it and apologize profusely to Playground brass.

All this after they first forced Lionhead to make Fable 4 into a multiplayer game, then canceled it and shut Lionhead down 4 years later.

That was really a preview for what was to come this generation.

Is this another case of vaporware like AAAA Perfect Dark?

You people saying push it till 2028... <3

This is a worrying sign for Fable fans like myself. Is Microsoft gonna Perfect Dark us again? Sad. I no longer trust that the games MS announces will ever release. I've never had this level of distrust for a publishing house before. The management and day to day at microsoft is fucked. Okay, so during the actiblizz acquisition there was an email from a sony exec that had a laugh at how difficult it would be for managers after the acquisition. Does anybody have a link to that email? If they cancel Fable I'm not sure how they will keep any of their xbox fans for next gen. It will lead to a mass exodus of the OG. Xbox will always be Gears, Halo, and Fable. They cannot screw this one up. I HOPE it's not dead and turns out great but fuck dude.

I don't even blame the devs on this one. This one is completely on Microsoft.

-Alright bros, we have this great studio that makes decent car games.
-Oh, so we're making them do another one?
-Nah, bro... They'll make an action rpg.
-But boss, they have never made an rpg before...
- Sounds great, give them the Fable IP!!
-I'm not sure about this, boss.
-Do you want to get fired?
- An RPG sounds great, boss!!

I just made a similar comment in the Machine Games thread, but it's the exact same blindspot IMO. Franchises that Gen X'ers think are better and more widely adored than they really are:

Fable
Indiana Jones
Banjo Kazooie
Perfect Dark

No one cares about these. They were never that good in the first place. Any attempt to revive them will result in massive financial damage and dozens if not hundreds of people losing their jobs.

If it results in a better game, then I'm all for it since there's tons of other shit to play in the meantime. Hopefully it's not just internal fuck ups going on that can't fix the game regardless of how much extra time they get.

You are literally talking to yourself

this seems like a game that was built around woke bs but also had a lot of money poured into it for celebrity voice actors but now is trying to tear out all the woeness after the big woke backlash of 2024/25 which now puts it in a half finished broken state.

Yeah the very brief "gameplay" they showed gave the same vibe as the Perfect Dark showing, had a hard time believing there was a real game there. Still don't fully buy it

These are not the Forza Horizon developers. They set up an entirely different studio for this project, it just happened to be under the Playground Games banner.

Franchise has zero value. Imagine letting a first party dev create a new RPG IP with this time and budget. All the Fable IP can do for this project is hurt it. If it's a good game, it will sell well. The IP is not going to earn it any extra sales, just extra scrutiny.

Never heard of this fella, does anyone have some knowledge of his track record?

Very disappointed if true. Fable and Blade are the only things Xbox had left in the oven that I was excited about.....just nothing but bad news out of MS lately.
Fable looks like absolute trash and will be nothing like the games from even 15 years ago (which is Fable 3, it's been 15 years lol).

The best thing MS is going to do in the next few months is out out Halo on PS5 and Switch 2. When that happens, we can go back to bashing their bad choices without hearing console wars. They'll be in the same field as EA or Ubi when we insult their firing practices and poorly received games.

Fable was one of Microsoft's biggest IPs, easily selling 10 million per (mainline) game.

My interest in this diminishes by the day.
It went from "I'll buy a Series S for this!" in the reveal period to complete apathy reading about a possible delay to 2027.

I have enough games to play to be fine with this releasing in 2027, but I sure would love to get my hands on it before that! One of my most wanted games along with another one that never seems to get a release date: Judas.

Fable always had a distinct cartoony art style fuck this nu reboot.
We have the technology to closely match the artstyle of the character designs of the box art of 1,2,3 with cell shading or whatever gets results instead of the ugly in-game 3D models you'd actually see.

What a shame because that would have given it more attention.

Let em help you… I payed for game pass to play certain games that were promised or advertised to releases in a certain time frame. 1yr sub is $200+ and now games I've paid to get my hands on from this service keeps getting delayed or cancelled yet my money is not being fully refunded for waiting. If that makes cents?
why wouldnt you get game pass when it comes out? you are trying too hard

The problem with Fable is that with their current line-up of studios, they no longer need another trad RPG franchise.

So if it doesn't perform... Just being real it'll be an easier thing to abandon than any of Bethesda's brands.

and for the record:
  • Fable (2004): Around 3 million copies.
  • Fable II: Around 5 million copies.
  • Fable III: Around 4 million copies.

So goddamned tired of this shit and I really hope it's not true. But apparently two sources are saying it. The other two guys seem to joke (or is he serious?) that his Xbox info is always wrong. Is that true?

After all the bullshit with Xbox it's hard to keep faith in this, even if he claims there supposedly aren't any problems. Hard to believe.
