does Ninokuni sell good enough to warrant a sequel? I thought it bombs in Japan

1.4 million.

Namco Bandai has announced the Ni No Kuni franchise has sold over 1.4 million units worldwide.

The figure, which takes into account worldwide copies sold of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch on the PlayStation 3 and Japan-only sales of the Nintendo DS version of the game, was announced during a press conference in Japan last week.

Namco Bandai Games Europe senior vice president Olivier Comte said, "We are very proud to join our partner, Level-5, to announce that the critically acclaimed role-playing game series, Ni no Kuni, has approximately reached the 1.4 million units sold worldwide. The franchise has been very well received in EMEA and as a result of its quality, has reached an amazing number of sales for a JRPG."

There is Level-5's game that is yet to be seen. Do you feel this is the appropriate venue for this game, and if it is, what kind of game are you looking for? Would you be happy with a sequel to an old IP like Ni no Kuni, or would you prefer a new IP?

i don't feel ni no kuni is old enough to be considered an old ip, so i'm taking this as dark cloud 3 confirmation :)

Sony must be real happy right now that the next mainline Idolmaster is a PS4 exclusive

The iOS version of The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage launched in Japan yesterday and has already topped four million downloads, Bandai Namco announced.

And with the PS4 version MGSV easily outselling the PS3 version in Japan, it seems like the transition to the PS4 that many have been wanting to happen is finally taking place.

I wouldn't buy a new Ni No Kuni if the gameplay isn't completely revamped. It's the one combat system that I can't stand.

Ehhhhhhh.....

Something tells me that Metal Gear's Japanese fanbase is the kind that has tastes more in line with the west, and would have bought a PS4 early on anyway.

Well, Persona 5 and Star Ocean 5 are supposed to release this year, so those will definitely be a good indicator of whether or not things have shifted.

What is wrong with its combat system? I liked it. The only bad thing about it was the stupid partner IA, which could be easily be solved with the better hardware.

Things I want out of this conference:
Persona 5 release date
Gravity Rush 2 announced (with GR1 remaster on PS4)
Level 5 announcing their PS4 RPG
Bloodborne DLC announced
New trailers for The Last Guardian, Dragon Quest XI and FFXV.

Everything else will be a really nice surprise. I wonder if Sega is actually developing a new IP or if it's ''just'' a new Yakuza that they're going to announce on the 15th.
Also imo Capcom might be cooking something....

Bloodborne DLC was announced in May!!!

This confirms TLG will have some presence at TGS (Makuhari Messe is where TGS is held). Hopefully there is a new trailer/footage at the conference.

Best TGS confirmed.

Ni No Kuni 2? Pffft. Maybe after another Dark Cloud -- it's been twelve years! I can only imagine what a technological improvement would do for the town creation aspect. That's what we want, not a sequel to one of the most impressively boring RPGs in recent memory.

If nothing else, I hope this TGS represents a renaissance for Japanese development. Until now, it's been bubbling under the surface, but I want undeniable evidence that it's taking place.

I think it's time to start looking forward to SCEE's conference anyway. Not too long now. SCEJ/A had a good run, but we can't blame them for disappointing everyone with their conference. It happens. We can always move on. We just need to remember that.

While Japan falls behind, Europa continues to gain momentumum.

Look at this poor attempt to damage control.

so goood

so

Level5 PS4 RPG
Yakuza 6 PS4
Gravity Rush 2

are very possible, as new game announcements, right?

Don't know about Yakuza 6 (besides that they are announcing a game on the date of the conference), but I think Gravity Rush 2 and Level 5's PS4 game are very likely. Especially Level 5's because it was meant to be at E3.

I'm hoping for:

Gravity Rush 2 full reveal & Gravity Rush HD PS4 announcement
Bloodborne DLC reveal & release date
Something new from Japan Studio

I don't think that's particularly unrealistic - or at least the top two - but either way I'm not really getting my hopes up. I think the timing might be right soon for new Devil May Cry & Resident Evil instalments, but those will be pretty big releases and I think they might show up at E3 or get their own reveals instead.

I hope something gets announced that might come "soon" - I find it difficult to get excited about games that might not come until 2017.

Do you think Falcom could announce Sen No Kiseki III(or whatever Sen No Kiseki II sequel will be called) at the conference? Tokyo Xanadu is coming out in about two weeks, so they could start marketing their next game, and what is the best occasion rather than Sony TGS confence? Or do you think they're going to give Ys VIII priority in their promotion?

I wish to see Level 5 make an original RPG IP built for console with pure turn-based combat.

I really don't think anyone is better than Level-5 when it comes to creating warm and comfy towns in a video game. Ding Dong Dell especially is something else.

Considering we haven't heard anything about Ys 8 since they announced it, I'm betting we get an extended look at that. But the Kiseki series is Their Thing right now, so we might see that too.
