Seahawks and Russell Wilson agreed to an extension (4 years, $87.6mil)

I know what my team is, an 8-8 team at best with at least one more season of growing pains if not longer. The problem with this sort of shit talking is it presumes the other person is an irrational fanboy like they are, thats the only way these weak jabs ever work.

The irony is delicious.

Have fun with that slow slide to mediocrity though. Spend less time trying to shit talk others and enjoy it, because once those defensive contracts come up and Lynch is gone in a year or two, all you will have is a tier 2 quarterback at 21 million a year and a lot of nostalgia to wrap yourself in.

Shit talking is the best part of sports fandom. You need to lighten up. I'll be shit talking if we go 0-16.

cool. he's earned it

as long as we keep drafting well, we're going to be competitive for a good amount of time with this core of players

Its fun when it is actually interesting/funny. And when the person can take it in stride. Yours just comes off like typical butthurt fanboy rationalizations and deflections.

Because deep down you know what has just happened. You all have spent this offseason tying up close to 30 million in cap space on two players at the least important position to your all's recent success.

Signaling long term that this is going to be a Russell Wilson centric team, and that is ultimately depressing.

I disagree whole-heartedly.

The best part of sports fandom is seeing the world's best perform amazing feats under pressure, or witnessing an insightful strategy unfolding. If the highlight of sports for you is "the dozens," there are easier ways to get your kicks.

Yep. The most successful stretch in team history has me feeling incredibly pessimistic.

Hope springs eternal, I guess. I'll have Jimmy send you a postcard from the playoffs.

You're right. We should be marveling at the physical prowess of the guys riding stationary bikes at training camp today.

It might not be the highlight, but it's still fun.

He deserves to be paid up there with Flacco and Rodgers. People act like he's a mediocre QB. He may not put up elite stats, but he wins and commands that offense. Not to mention he's played in back-to-back Super Bowls, winning once and coming within a stupid coaching decision to winning 2.

It's crazy how quickly people have forgotten that NFC Championship game. Wilson pretty much single-handedly gave that game away (only to have the Packers play to lose and miraculously get a second chance).

I mean, if we get to say he was "one play away" from winning two Super Bowls, I can point to about a dozen plays in the game prior -- had any of them been gone the Packers way -- he would been the single biggest factor in them not making it to their second.

'm not though, which is why I was actually discussing the contract until someone decided to engage in some friendly banter with me!

I like friendly banter. I just don't trust the posters here to be capable of it. :p Like this

has nothing original, clever, or contextually relevant about it. I dunno. I mean sports-GAF must enjoy it because it's in every single sports OT (that I've visited) but it's definitely a turn-off. I feel like any time someone tries to make a point, the response is "Like a ____ fan would know about ____!"

EDIT: Anyway, I'm gonna stop meta posting. Sorry!

It's almost as if judging an individual player in the most intricate team sport on the planet requires more than a cursory glance at a stat box.

Yeah with his wonderful year one.

Kaep was never good. Tiny Hands > Kaep.

Yeah, but he has 3 years left on his contract IIRC. He's not going to get anything other than a token restructuring or something.

That said, I don't mind him holding out. Players should try and get their money while they can.

I do mind people holding out when it's a leader of the defense going against what he signed. If he had an issue with the guarantees he should have had it worked into the contract initially. Wanting your deal redone this soon into it is nothing but a joke and sets a bad example (and precedent, if Schneider caves) for the rest of the team.

Schneider's not going to cave, as we just saw with Russell's deal. It's a non-issue IMO, people hold out every year and they eventually show up and play.

I don't really have any doubt about that, it's just unnecessary drama that I really wish we could avoid, particularly from the team's leaders.

Kam will probably get a restructure for a bit more guaranteed money but nothing else. He and Bennet are way out there wanting contract changes with 3 years left on their deals. The Hawks will stand firm because its the only way this can work. The organization is entering an expensive phase, they need discipline and creativity to hold this current team together.

New Money Seahawk "lifelongs" are a close second.

I moved up here in 2012 to Seattle and saw the metamorphosis with my own eyes, in real time.

"I been a fan forever, man! I remember hearing the name Hasslebeck once or twice! And Shaun Alexander was beast! Go Hawks!!!"

If they said Shaun was a beast they definitely were new money.

I like Shaun and appreciate the good years he gave us ;)

Kaep was never good. Tiny Hands > Kaep.

Bullshit. Swap Kaep for Wilson and the Seahawks would be looking at three trophies right now.

"The deal averages $21.9-miilion a year, a smidge less than top deal in football, Aaron Rodgers’ $22-million per."

My favourite part. They just couldn't bear the shame of giving the top deal in football to a mediocre QB.

I have no issue with you, cdy.

I don't even really care if a fan is bandwagon. That's whatever. I just don't need you woofing in my face about the fact I root for the Rams when you just arrived at the Seahawk party in 2013. I get clowns walking up to me saying, "Rams huh?" in their brand new 12 jersey with the price tag still showing. GTFOOH.

At least the long suffering Seahawk fans understand what sustained losing before success was. I have found that, the most vocal "fans" have been on the bandwagon the least amount of time.

60 mil guaranteed. Damn fine work.

Edit: also, 60/87.6 guaranteed. We're getting closer to fully guaranteed contracts for star QBs.

The whole "12th man" thing is so corny -_-, and yeah I'm as sick of you of all these extremely boisterous 12th man fans especially when they're dicks to fans of other teams

But I guess I understand, they're the only decent team in Seattle (that matters), they got nothing else to root for so it gets overloaded in the seahawks

Yeah, that's how it goes with sports teams that experience success! What can you do though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm probably the most pessimistic guy in the group I watch games with =\

I totally get rooting for a winner. We had tons of new money Laker fans in LA during the 3Peat run and they were annoying too. You covered it though. Just don't be dicks to fans of other teams cause our team is a different point in history than yours is. Everything goes in cycles. No need for the yapping. Just enjoy the ride will it lasts.

I remember when Miami Heat fans were chirping during 2011-2014...right, Gata?

You literally sound upset though. Genuinely angry that different people would have the affront to even think Wilson had legitimate skill and talent.

It's not really that much because a decent chunk of it is in this year. He'll be about the 10th highest paid QB in 2016 and the 11th highest in 2017.

As a sports fan, the recent events in the NFL have taught me something:

Sports fans are stupid.

There's something brainless about the fact that a player who leads his team to 2 Super Bowls & wins one of them is considered to be "not worth" signing for a long term extension.

There's just too much salt from the opposing team's fans to make this type of a thread fun to participate in.

Pats are like 20-3 against the Bills since the last time Buffalo been to the playoffs. I still shit talk those scrubs and their goofy ass fans at every opportunity.

It's half the experience to be honest. Sports wouldn't be nearly as fun without the meta aspect.
