Wow that place got built up quickly. Only a couple weeks ago the place still looked far from complete.

I mean the building was there, it used to be a coffee place - basically decorating and fryers. Even the permits are similar. Oh and the weird little house around the corner (behind Taco Time) finally sold. It has literally been on the market for a decade - some issues with a bank foreclosure. Somebody got an amazing bargain because the renovations in there are spectacular.

That house is gorgeous! My family is needing a 3br place so we are constantly looking. It seems the market is cooling down the first time this year.

Only time I've had Ezell's was from their food truck and it was terrible. No interest in trying it from the restaurant, tbh. Fat's Chicken & Waffles is our go-to currently.

Anyone try Heaven Sent which is where the actual Ezells works and owns (after divorce and splitting from company). I do like Ezells (the chain) a decent amount but it's pretty much just a guilty pleasure for pretty decent tenders that are at least well above the fucking kfc and other garbage chains around me.

I drove by earlier today. Not open yet. Couple ladders on the roof and contractors getting some stuff done inside.

And yeah, Heaven Sent is just as good.

I'm doomed. I'm gonna need a pleasure barge and a sponge on a stick.
I already have my rascal scooter preordered.

I preferred Heaven Sent the few times I was there, honestly.

Checked it out during lunch: Not quite finished yet.

Friendly employee came out to talk with us and said they'd be open TOMORROW! And if we came back between 4-7 today, we might be able to get some free chicken! (Probably testing the equipment and stuff.) So if you're in the neighborhood at this time, it might be worth your while to drop by. =)

EDIT: Lunched at nearby Taco Time instead. The Chicken Fit-Hit bowl was delicious, but I'm still jonesing for some Ezell's.

Just stopped by. Didn't want to beg for free chicken, but didn't see them give any out. :( They confirmed that they're trying to open tomorrow, though.

Yes. I've been to Ezell's and Heaven Sent many times. They're effectively identical apart from the weird Jesus t-shirts. Any real differences I put down to daily consistency. HOWEVER Heaven Sent can eat a bag of Dicks, because last time I went there - after waiting twenty minutes in an empty restaurant they literally dismantled my (almost ready) order and redistributed it to a food delivery service.

Ezell's is fully open, pray for me gaf.

Also there's a random Korean* BBQ truck at Rancho Bravo - called "Auntie Mabel's" and features an actual Auntie Mabel, now (formerly Winchell's) but they have a good mix of BBQ'd meat with rice "bowls" and a very cheap smoked chicken and coleslaw "slider" which is almost full size sammich on half a French Roll for $3. Bargain of 45th st IMO.

* It's pretty pan-asian, and everything is served with coleslaw and a selection of BBQ sauces, including a vinegar based Carolina style.

Never been so disappointed in Ezell's in my life. :( :( :(

Ordered the usual spicy strips, but they were flavorless and dry as all hell. And no biscuit?! Not to mention that it took forever because the staff is still adjusting, though there were almost no customers.

Guess I'll wait a while and pray that they get their shit together.

Is Olympic NP really that hard to get to? I keep hearing just how far it is from Seattle. Dont really want to spend half my day driving there and back.

I'll be in town for a few days soon and I absolutely need to get some hiking done while I'm here. Last time I did Mt. Rainier and it was incredible. I only have one day to devote to hiking so its between Olympic and North Cascades NP.

Olympic is a haul since you either have to drive down south and then back up to the Peninsula. You can also take the ferry across the Sound from Seattle, but it's still gonna be an all day ordeal whichever way you choose. Totally worth it.

I haven't tried Ezell's and Heaven Sent because I've heard mixed things about their Customer Service and Food from friends.

Also, moving up from Tacoma to Auburn to be closer to college come next month.

Ah gotcha. The ferry sounds nice, feels like it would be pretty scenic.

Any trails you recommend in Olympic? I've always been interested in the rainforest but I'm irrationally scared of giant spiders lurking there lol.

I'm a big hiker, but I've honestly never hiked out on the Olympic Peninsula.

I'm from Auburn. I'm sorry.

At this point I wouldn't worry about service because they're still not that busy...didn't see many people outside there a couple hours ago.

The food itself was pretty amazing though. I'll definitely go back.

Yeah, its pretty much 3-4 hours from Seattle. There's plenty of good hikes in King, Snohomish and Whatcom counties that are much closer.

The peninsula is really great though, and a different flavor of the state. I would definitely recommend getting out there at some point, but not for a day trip.

Any gyms in beacon hill, columbia city, capital hill or first hill neighborhoods that are good and not going to make my wallet cry? Or in the U-district or luaralhurst? Hmm, 24hour fitness in capital hill looks good.

OR screw it, anywhere >_>

I posted in here a few weeks back about heading to Seattle for vacation, and I'm leaving Saturday. I'm pretty excited, still finalizing plans and such and where to have my meals at, most of the tourist-y things I think I have planned fairly well. At least starting off with Portage Bay Cafe this Sunday morning for a good breakfast. My friend says I have to try a teriyaki place, any highly recommended one?

That 24 Hour Fitness is the only reasonably-priced place I could find in the area. It's a good size and they have an entire floor for weights and weight machines - downside is that area is below street level and has pretty lousy ventilation, so it definitely smells like a gym. I can, however, put up with it rather than pay $100+ a month like all the other gyms around here.

That's weird, I haven't really been able to find a great teriyaki place here.

Teriyaki places aren't "great." They're just teriyaki. And I love them.

There are some bad places, but I'd say 95% of all teriyaki is good. The best one is more than likely the one closest to you.

Toshi's is the one that started it all if you really care.

If you're downtown, the place a block east of the Westin is one I've eaten at dozens of times. But really, whatever you find is the teriyaki to eat.

You don't mean International Teriyaki do you? That place shut down like 2 years ago.

I miss the spicy chicken + gyoza combo. :(

Teriyaki is such a weird Seattle thing. I'm trying to think of a city with a similar hyperlocalized "ethnic" cuisine, but can't. Also seems to be going the way of the dinosaur.

San Diego and burritos maybe?

Teriyaki will never die. It will just be relegated to strip malls in the burbs. And I will drive there for it.

My favorite right now is probably chicken teriyaki and katsu combo at Himitsu in Maple Leaf.

Speaking of katsu, why aren't pork katsu sandwiches (on white bread with cabbage and spicy mustard/wasabi) a thing here? Whenever I'm in Japan or Hawaii I eat those things once or twice a day.

Not quite a thing here, but they are served at Katsu Burger.
http://katsuburger.com/menu-1/

I keep meaning to check them out. Anyone been?

I went there last month. It was quite tasty if you like Japanese/diner food. We liked the wasabi coleslaw. The multi-patty burgers are way too much food.

I was more satisfied eating it at home because the decor is really cheap stickers on the wall, like a previous co-worker of mine had to let you know they are so totally into Godzilla, and have you even heard of Kamen Rider?

I went to Katsu Burger right after they first opened years ago. My wife took me for Father's Day after hitting up a couple Georgetown/South Park breweries. The Katsu burgers were kickass, but they do not make what I'm talking about.

katsu-sando-09.jpg

Now we're talking. Sooooo goooood.

Uwajimaya and Murata Shoten don't make them. Always makes me sad.
