In the tech site’s latest DF Direct Weekly video (below), technology editor Richard Leadbetter seemingly references PSVR 2 details leaked in May, before claiming to have seen even more impressive specs for Sony’s upcoming headset.

“One thing I think that is kind of heartening is that Sony is doing PSVR 2 for the PlayStation 5,” he said.

“We’ve seen some leaked specs and it looks good. We’ve seen some other specs which haven’t been leaked which make it look even better.

“So, hopefully VR will be able to expand, there will be more choice in the headset arena, and also I’m quite looking forward to seeing what this new Sony controller is about,” Leadbetter added.

I started with the PSVR, and recently went over to Quest 2 on PC when I upgraded my machine. It's a big difference between the two in terms of quality, so I'm curious to see if PSVR2 meets the competition, or, cuts a few corners to keep its price in check. The Quest 2 pushes 1832x1920 per eye. Even on my i9 10900k and RTX 3090, games like Half-Life Alyx at Ultra Fidelity manage to give it a workout at times. I'm very curious to see what magic Sony have in store this time around.

I have high hopes for Sony and VR. While we have top tier hardware and software with Valve Index and Alyx on one end, I'm disappointed in VR offerings being limited to indie devs targeting the Oculus and it's limited hardware (as they should, given the larger userbase.) I think now that Sony has more capable hardware, they have the best potential to bring VR mainstream and we can start to see the medium really grow in terms of quality.

TFW AAA teams start competing in the VR space.

Anyone with PCVR should also be looking forward to it because the only big platform right now is the relatively low spec Quest. If PSVR does OK (better than PSVR1) it will encourage devs to make PCVR/PSVR versions that aren't just slight upgrade from Quest.

Unfortunately vr sickness needs exposure to get over it (takes a while for the brain to adapt to the unusual stimuli). I think most people take a week or two of regular play - but it might come back somewhat if you don't play for a while. The exposure should also be graduated, starting with games that have limited movement, teleport, etc. Always stop if you start feeling sick because it won't go away if you attempt to play through it

edit: one issue is PSVR 1 have low frame rates which can contribute to motion sickness. PSVR 2 should be better; edit: another contributor is all the PSVR games that use gamepad controls - as soon as you move in game in an unexpected direction the brain is like wtf and makes you super nauseous. But it depends on the game e.g. The Persistence 2 and Wolfenstein Cyberpilot are the worst ones I tried. You may have been playing one of the bad ones.

This is how it works for me, although personally it's not more than a minor irritation sometimes in the first instance.

Yeah, after three months of non play I played Borderlands 2 and within 30 minutes I felt too nauseous to continue (lots of irregular movement in that game). Within a few days it was gone again - however, that unfortunately is a serious barrier to adoption for more casual people who don't play regularly enough.

According to multiple UploadVR sources, PSVR 2 will offer a resolution of 4000×2080 pixels (2000×2040 per eye).

It will also include gaze tracking capable of foveated rendering, a lens separation adjustment dial, and a vibration motor allowing developers to provide direct haptic feedback, Sony has reportedly informed partners.

As someone who recently tried ps4 vr and went crazy for it, can't wait for the second model

One of the ps5's must buy when I'll be able to buy one

The only thing they need to fix is the horrid motion tracking. Fix that (and the 150 cables too) to avoid me a headache and vomit, and you can sold me a sub720p visor if you want

I'm hoping for GT7 full PSVR2 support.Simracing is made for VR, its just incredible


Also Foveated rendering is a gamechanger. The fps increase is like at least 4-5x.

No doubt PSVR2 will support foveated rendering that's is mentioned in GE patent by M.Cerny also mentioned 114 FOV not 110 also it says without foveated rendering average inefficiency is 2.5x that means with FOV rendering we should get on average 2.5x increase in performance that's game changer basically that means games will look better on PSVR2 then on 2d screens.

I hope this works out but history tells us that they do not crossover very well. I would rather have a couple games made specifically for VR (Like Half Life: Alyx) than a bunch of games with VR forced in (Like No Man's Sky).

Those are some pretty fucking impressive specs to be sho, definite Day 1 purchase for me seeing as i love the PSVR1 even with its multitude of shortcomings.

Here's hoping it releases with Half Life Alyx, Resi Evil8 & a new AstroBot

Forced in? No mans sky looks great in VR, hell you could say its the perfect game for VR, its just a pity the control scheme cant keep up
