You can do binaural audio from any sound source with headphone. Maybe that's what they want to play to give you a sense of presence. It's just not dynamic on a video of course.

If you want to be pedantic, this will potentially be a live premiere.



Regardless, even though the PS5 GDC conference was pre-recorded, they still live-streamed it. The reason for that is security since youtube live premieres require you to pre-upload a video to the YouTube servers.

You can now go back to your fantasy land with your newfound knowledge.

there won't be a 4K version at all, since it wasn't even produced. The production was limited to 1080@30fps, due to covid:

I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second. This eased the show's production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home.

I don't wanna direct this way OT here, but my thoughts go further than the riots, blm, and covid. But about how damaging social media and the internet has been to people. How it has increased mental health among many other problems. There are so many things wrong with this world. But carry on guys.

Social Media is truly awful. Its frankly dangerous.

It promotes among other things:-

Idol worship (usually vacuous idiots who themselves are deeply unhappy which usually shows in later life in their drug use/suicide)
Hyper Materialism
Attention deficit
Instant gratification (why work at a career for decades slowly climbing ladders and improving yourself)
Hive mind think (recent events have shown this)
etc.etc.etc....

I'm trying to figure out how to best help my son grow up in this mess of a world.

I think people were angry that Sony didn't give a new date earlier. Everyone else gave a new date earlier, like EA.
It's still a bummer and kinda weird that the stream is only 1080p@30fps though and that there won't be a 4K version ever.

Good point, I guess I overlooked social media since I almost never engage. Usually just GAF and YouTube. The internet is still very much in its adolescent stage. I think we'll figure it out, though. If we don't blow ourselves up first.
 
Have a feeling Sony is just covering for one of their devs.

Not sure if anyone here has actually worked a big product event, but it's true, maddening chaos from a business perspective. Your teams are submitting shit at the 11th hour, vendors fuck up non-stop, some executive wants something changed a week before the event, and overworked employees throw duct tape on a million little problems within minutes to submission deadline.

Now, imagine trying to coordinate a dozen developers in 8 time zones to submit polished, high-fidelity footage that makes your console look amazing -- all while the world is under lock down.

It's possible that one (or more) of the key showcase devs didn't submit 4K 60FPS footage in time, and instead of cutting them from the show, Sony chose to render the whole thing in 1080p. Allows Sony to avoid cutting games from the showcase, plus circumvents the army of pixel counters who'd fixate in resolution instead of the marketing message Sony wants everyone to pay attention to (sound, controller, seamless worlds).
 
What are the logistics of manufacturing and mailing out 10 or so million Cerny approved hype train conductors outfits by Thursday?
 
Yes, indeed, nothing screams next gen like 1080p / 30. If there is no 4K trailers released after, epic fail. I am not really interested in seeing what PS5 games look like running on Lockhart.
 
If i was sony i would have just output it in 1080p and not said anything else. Telling us before hand is only going to get the xbots out of their beds with their fingers on the keyboard crying how the ps5 is hiding something or that the games shown are all less than 4k. I think we will see more visual fidelity, but most games next gen won't be 4k due to additional effects etc

Even today's games look "great" in some cases, but at least we can see them at full visual fidelity. Careful now, your almost validating the existence of Lockhart / 1080p as a good idea, some will see this as a betrayal and turn on you.
