See you Thursday, June 11 at 1:00pm Pacific time (9:00pm BST) for a look at the future of gaming

Also, is interesting to see a new 4chan leak that ended up to be true.
In the end.

Even today's games look "great" in some cases, but at least we can see them at full visual fidelity. Careful now, your almost validating the existence of Lockhart / 1080p as a good idea, some will see this as a betrayal and turn on you.
Comparing 1080p gaming to a 1080p upload of higher res footage?

You're really reaching here. 😉

Not really, if lockheart really does deliver 1080p with many of the same visual effects in place as rumored, they should really look the same if playing/watching at 1080p.

On a side note, If they mix in some ai upscaling like the voodoo nvidia has been playing with, you might even end up with an upscale 4k image that is scary close to true 4k. If they pulled that off, ms might have been forced to scrap lockheart for being too good......who would buy a series x .........
It's actually probably foolish to dismiss lockheart as underpowered automatically.

Were there this many people complaining about 1080p/30 when the Xbox next gen showcase happened? Because afaik all broadcast from videogame publishers are like this.

Guess because they clearly said it this time. 4K streaming does make sense though when your goal is to show of your next gen 4K games.

no, it was 4K@60fps. However, this was not the default, you had to go to settings during the stream and change the quality to 4K@60fps manually.

Fun Fact about the 1080p thing, only browsers that even support 4k are ms edge (new and old) and safari :messenger_tears_of_joy: Firefox and Chrome all are 720p afaik.

What? No, this only applies to netflix - due to copyright - but for youtube it's easily possible, you can even watch 8K (7680x4320@60fps) on youtube with chrome, try it out yourself:

I definitely hope they open preorders but considering the long game Sony's been playing I doubt that'll happen sadly.

seems like they can put up a 4k stream to download after the live presentation. in fact i bet that appears by the weekend.

Youtube has downgraded their streaming due to COVID, and this is being featured on Youtube, so it totally makes sense.

i mean i guess it sucks but welcome to 2020 son

Thanks for that video. I found a couple like that for my OLED to display sometimes. I wonder if next-gen will fully take advantage of such quality.

Probably will at some point - but I don't think there are any mobile or laptop devices that have 8K resolutions lol. There is a 8K monitor, but its way out of reach and YouTube is more of a mobile platform more than anything. It's nice that they have the option, but the people who can actually watch 8K/60 is like 1% so it would not be worth it right now.

Hah indeed. I don't think we can really take advantage of seeing 8K with our own eyes. I'm fine with 4K at this point.

I can 100% see the difference between 1080p/4K. 1080P now to me looks like a blurry mess lol. I have yet to see 4K versus 8K side by side so I have no opinion. It's double the pixel count so I'd imagine you would see the difference.

Baring in mind that we've had comments about the SSD in the PS5 enabling certain abilities not available to other consoles, do you think we might get text on some of the games saying 'Only possible on the PS5'?

To say that wouldn't they have to prove that whatever we are seeing is only possible with a certain bandwidth threshold?

So there will be no countdown? No set time that it starts? No live comments? Millions of people won't be signing in to watch it at the same time?

If you want to be pedantic, this will potentially be a live premiere.

Regardless, even though the PS5 GDC conference was pre-recorded, they still live-streamed it. The reason for that is security since youtube live premieres require you to pre-upload a video to the YouTube servers.

You can now go back to your fantasy land with your newfound knowledge.

No. Its not live. It will never fit the definition of a live event no matter how far you move the goal posts.

We have YouTubers pumping out 4K videos on a weekly basis from their basements and you're trying to tell me that a multi-billion dollar corporation that specializes in this shit cant throw together a 4K/60 video for the premier of their most successful product and cash cow?

There is some major fanboy mental gymnastics in play here. Sony hasn't shown shit in months except a logo and a controller. The reason we got from them is that they wanted to make sure it was a professional presentation up to their high standards. You gobbled that up. I don't blame you for that as PS5 is the biggest Sony product in years and they want to get it right. Then after being delayed a whole week for PR reasons, we get this latest excuse for a video in 1080p/30. And there response? "Trust us, these games will look great on your 4K [Sony] TV's!!" They didn't even say, "Don't worry, most of these games will be running at 4K/60 fps." No, we're told it will look great on our TVs.

So the reason for the Sony slow-walking PS5 info is because they wanted a high-quality event...and then we have a pre-recorded video at 1080p/30. How can you reconcile those two things?

They did this to thwart pixel and frame rate counters. They knew the day after this event, Digitial Foundry will be scouring the footage for a 2 hour special dissecting each demo and anything below 4K/60 fps will be disappointing.

I don't think they'd have to prove it in the video itself, but certainly they'll likely get asked about it afterwards and THEN they'd have to prove it. I'm a complete tech noob but I've noticed a few comments from people in the industry talking about the SSD and how it's a game changer. It seems it's not just the speed either but something to do with everything else supporting the SSD that is likely NOT in the other console.

4K/60 streams will be uploaded at a later time. 1080p/30 uses much less bandwidth and decreases the likelihood of the streaming being lost.

Am I missing something here? This appears to be in 4K.

I'm pretty sure PS fanboys would have created a lot of controversy if this was in 1080p/30.

Where's confirmation of this. Sony seemed to suggest that the event was recorded in 1080p/30 due to Covid. And there's no indication that there will be a 4K upload later. We're just told that the game would look great on our 4K TVs. I'm sure they will. Even 1080p games look great upscaled on my 4K TV.

Oh I thought this was browser-wide a problem. Gonna double check that, but thanks for the info

It's being treated like a live event, get over it.

If you can't handle watching anything other than higher resolution/framerate videos then wait until after the event.

Just saw this on Twitter. Never saw this one before. Already confirmed as fake? Colorscheme of the DualSense looks different from the trailer but maybe just different variants from the beginning.
