Senate passes bill to make Daylight Savings time permanent

Sounds good to me. Looks like it will go into effect November 2023. DST really threw me off this week.

Interestingly, I found this on wikipedia with a quick search.

Previous observation of year-round daylight saving time

Permanent DST in the US was briefly enacted by president Richard Nixon in 1974, in response to the 1973 oil crisis. The proposal was initially supported by an estimated 79% of the public; that support dropped to 42% after its first winter, owing to the harshness of dark winter mornings that permanent DST creates. In the state of Florida alone, at least six school children were killed by motorists due to the dark mornings created by the new law.[18] The new permanent DST law was retracted within the year.[1][2][43][44] However, critics argue that anecdotes of deaths in the dark could be equally applied to darker evenings, and that the elimination of Permanent DST was politically motivated.[45]

Just split the difference at 30 min and walk away....

Or let those night dwelling Yankee winter folk do it by themselves and leave us blessed sunshine southrun' gents alone :)

I'll never understand why people get so bent out of shape over daylight savings time. Is it really that hard to deal with?

I feel it's 50/50 memes and Twitter people whining like they whine about anything if given the chance.

A total non-issue.

DST being permanent is almost as dumb as DST existing in the first place. If things are starting too early or too late, just change what time they start, not shift the whole fucking clock to accommodate your weirdo psychology.

Why is Daylight Savings Time what becomes Permanent and not Standard Time?

There's likely a few reasons, but one is more business operational time & energy savings on lighting. Having to turn on store lights at 4:30pm vs waiting until 5:30pm (or not at all if the biz closes at 5). Its a tiny difference but adds up over time.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Reading the headlines it makes it sound like they passed a bill to make daylight savings time (as a concept) permanent ie. "We guarantee that you will always be changing your clocks and body rhythm every six months, forever"

Glad to see this personally

This is like the monkey paw version of what I always wanted, which is permanent standard time.

Why the fuck is the sun still out at 8PM

I've never been in a store that didn't have their lights on during the daytime. If you mean the store signs outside, those are on even if the store is closed at night. Don't see this as a reason at all for permanent DST over standard time.

Will still be dark in the winter mornings when children are going to school.

From what I've seen parents don't let their kids walk to school anymore and will drive them right up to the gates. Too many pedos out there that are a bigger issue than not teaching your kids how to safely cross a road.

yep it’s true, and MANY schools have banned kids being allowed to walk alone to school.

why do you hate the sun? I like being able to go hiking and not having to use a flashlight after 8. I don't get done work until 6:30 work 10 hour days. longer days are great, unless you don't like outside.

no wonder we have sjws and wussies all over today...shit what happened to walking a mile to the bus stop or a half hour walk/15 min bike ride to school across a major highway? Parents driving kids to school, making them weak little sissy boys.

I love the sun. Natural light is great. But I like night too. I need balance!

I don’t really give a shit which way they go, but yes as I’ve gotten older and had kids…don’t make me keep doing this fuckers. Here we are 3 days in and I still feel like shit is off

Living in a country where the clocks never change is great, get dark and hour earlier or later it's OK. Then every country that changes their clocks and we have to adjust to all your global time shifting if you are communicating abroad.
