The anti lynching law would have made it a federal crime and allowed the ferderal courts to get involved. The feds were likely to act against crime against black than good 'ole boy county judges and DAs. The southern legislators knew this that's why were against it.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Agreed, AA was good to start with in the 60s when you had crappy black schools putting out under educated blacks who even if they were capable of getting into college wouldn't be allowed to by the schools white administrators. What blacks should have been doing since AA first started was pushing for programs that updated and upgraded black schools to the point they were equal to white schools. School bussing was the biggest bunch of BS ever and black people fell for it hook line and sinker. Instead of bussing black kids across town we should have been investing in the black schools and making them better. Now bussing is being stopped and the schools in the black neighborhood are still crap. Total lack of leadership and common sense on the part of the black community.

How do you know they didnt do that? My mom was never bussed anywhere she went to school in her home town, and their school was quite regal. She commented that the 90% white school that i went to during my middle school - highschool days was a pitiful broke ass school in comparison. I finally got to see her highschool a while back...i agree, I dont know if you should say the "black community" because your story doesnt even come remotely close to describing my mothers or fathers school experiences. They both came from a black community, the only non black neighbor my mother had was a polish family down the block...the rest were black. And their school was da shit then, and its da shit now, not to mention that gold laced olympic sized pool...motherfuckers.

I can see exactly your point when it came to where I grew up in PA, because the old "black school" is basically a rec center during the summer now and part fire station. When I moved to that town I was bussed across town to a predominantly white school. However in my mom/dads hometown it was just the oppposite and is still just the opposite.

Strange that this is even mentioned considering the article doesn't mention reparations... not even once. You participating in the same thread as the rest of us?

...and that has what to do with this particular thread?

What a fucking asshole. I hope all the controversy around budgets, money, and coin collections comes back to bite the Republicans in Ohio. Taft, Blackwell, and Voinovich need to go.

Cornyn? :: feigns surprise :: I'm going to do everything I can to get people to vote this chump out of office; between this and his helping to spearhead the filibuster confrontation, this guy has no place being in office. None. I'm only mildly surprised to see Hutchinson didn't join the group on that one, but then if she has plans to run for governor soon, she probably figured it might be a half-decent thing to do. This is the point where Rick Perry tells African Americans if they don't like the laws on the books, they can move to states or places which are more comforting...after signing legislation in some small, whites-only church in rural west Texas.

There are replies mentioning and deliberating over reparations elsewhere within the thread.

edit: but yeah I guess I was a bit of a dweeb, too. :p

Just saying it's quite messed up, IMO, that there are people still living who were directly affected by loss due to a country's bad practices that aren't pursuing or otherwise bitching about reparations nearly so ardently as people a number of generations removed.

Congrats Shig in dredging up a sub-topic to this thread that we've already put to bed.

If I'm not mistaken they still do, as well as pay money to Isreal. On top of that anyone that comes into ownership of property that was once owned and taken from a Jew during WW2 has to give it back to the family it belonged to.
