Miles Morales wasn't marketed as a sequel to begin with, but it did an amazing job as a standalone DLC/ExpansionCrackdown 2 and Miles Morales maybe?
Really? Not even a fan of the game....
All I am saying though is that it can't be a coincidence that on the day said the game is released... we have had three such identical threads.
What's even worse, is that the premise of the argument is so silly and flawed that it's impossible to see it as anything as trolling.
How about this, just to prove my point, can you name 5 direct sequels to games in the past say... 25 years that were vastly different from the game that was before them? Actually lets make that 3... point is, anyone that has been gaming and knows how games work, knows exactly what it means when a direct sequel is made.
Great.... so 6 games? Oh, you also forgot SF1 to SF2 also forgot legacy of Kain to legacy of Kain soul reaver...
Its really hard to find 3 games within a franchise with a total sum of only 3 games, that are completely different to each other but somehow still made it so the fans are pleased, I can appreciate this even though I'm not a Witcher fan.Witcher -> Witcher 2
Witcher 2 -> Witcher 3
Still missing the point I see.I didn't forget shit, you put a 25 year limit on games that could be listed that cuts out anything before 98. You only asked for 5, I gave you 6.
Relax.Undermine? It’s a fucking game.
Gawd I hate Zelda fans.
There is not a single gameplay element in ER that is not present in standard souls games. The innovation is simply in the open world and linearity.TotK is in the same camp as GOW / Souls
The gameplay and structure aren’t majorly changed at all. ER is certainly a much bigger departure than TotK is to BoTW
Right because they didn’t make one of the most interesting and complicated open world maps in gaming history, no no that doesn’t countThere is not a single gameplay element in ER that is not present in standard souls games. The innovation is simply in the open world and linearity.
The only slight change is to weapon arts.
I'm having a really difficult time trying to find and experience all the things below in the previous Dark Souls game, can you please enlighten me?There is not a single gameplay element in ER that is not present in standard souls games. The innovation is simply in the open world and linearity.

Combat/Control
Exploration/World/Map
- Stances: In Elden Ring, you can switch between different stances that affect your attacks, blocks, and dodges. Each weapon has two stances: a normal stance and a special stance. The special stance can be activated by holding down the left trigger or L2 on a controller. The special stance usually grants you access to more powerful or unique attacks, such as a charged thrust or a spinning slash. However, using the special stance also consumes Focus Points (FP), which are needed for casting spells and using Ashes of War abilities.
- Ashes of War: Ashes of War are special items that grant you access to various abilities that can enhance your combat performance. For example, you can use Ashes of War to summon a spirit wolf that fights alongside you, or to create a shockwave that knocks back enemies. Ashes of War also consume FP when used.
- Guard Counter: Guard Counter is a new mechanic that allows you to counterattack enemies after blocking their attacks. To perform a Guard Counter, you need to press the right bumper or R1 on a controller right after blocking an enemy attack. This will trigger a quick counterattack that deals extra damage and breaks the enemy’s poise. Poise is an invisible meter that determines how easily an enemy can be staggered by your attacks.
- Stealth and Backstabs: Elden Ring also features stealth elements that allow you to crouch by pressing the left stick or L3 on a controller, and move silently behind enemies. If you manage to get close enough, you can press the right bumper or R1 on a controller to perform a backstab, which deals massive damage and often kills enemies in one hit. Backstabs are affected by your weapon’s crit stat.
- Spirit Steed: One of the most notable additions to Elden Ring’s combat system is the Spirit Steed, a magical horse that you can summon at any time by pressing the down button on the D-pad or holding down the left bumper or L1 on a controller. The Spirit Steed allows you to traverse the open world faster and also fight enemies while mounted. You can use your weapons and spells while riding the Spirit Steed, as well as perform special attacks by pressing the right trigger or R2 on a controller.
- Verticality: Elden Ring has a new jump button that allows you to leap over obstacles and gaps.
Lore/Setting/Story
- Open World: Elden Ring features a vast and seamless open world that can be explored without loading screens. The open world consists of six main regions, each with its own landscape, weather, enemies, bosses, dungeons, secrets, and lore. The regions are connected by a network of roads and paths that can be followed or ignored.
- Horse Riding: Elden Ring introduces a new mechanic of horse riding, which allows you to traverse the open world faster and more easily. You can summon your steed Torrent at any time by pressing a button, and ride it across various terrains, such as hills, swamps, forests, and plains. You can also use your horse to jump over obstacles and gaps, or to fight enemies while mounted.
- Dynamic Events: Elden Ring’s open world is also filled with dynamic events that can happen randomly or triggered by your actions. These events can include environmental changes, such as storms or eclipses, enemy invasions or ambushes, friendly encounters or quests, and hidden secrets or rewards. Dynamic events can affect the gameplay and the story in various ways.
- Glintstone Key: Elden Ring’s exploration system also revolves around a special item called the Glintstone Key, which is required to access certain areas and dungeons in the game. The Glintstone Key can be obtained by defeating certain bosses or completing certain quests. The Glintstone Key can also be used to activate Grace Lights, which are bonfire-like checkpoints that allow you to rest, level up, fast travel, and summon allies.
- Mythos: Elden Ring’s lore is based on the mythos written by George R. R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire series. The mythos refers to the overall narrative theme or plot structure of the game, as well as the belief system of the world. The mythos of Elden Ring revolves around the concept of the Elden Ring, a mysterious and powerful object that was shattered by unknown assassins, causing the order of the world to break with it.
- Story: Elden Ring’s story refers to the events and characters that the player encounters and interacts with in the game. The story of Elden Ring follows the Tarnished, a chosen undead who returns to the Lands Between, a vast and broken empire ruled by demigods who possess Great Runes, fragments of the Elden Ring. The Tarnished’s goal is to become the Elden Lord by collecting all the Great Runes and reaching the Erdtree, where the Elden Ring once rested.
- Setting: Elden Ring’s setting is the Lands Between, a huge and seamless open world that can be explored without loading screens. The Lands Between consists of six main regions, each with its own landscape, weather, enemies, bosses, dungeons, secrets, and lore. The regions are Limgrave, Liurnia of the Lakes, Caelid, Mt. Gelmir and Volcano Manor, Leyndell Royal Capital, and Mountaintops of the Giants.
- Characters: Elden Ring’s characters include various NPCs that can be met and interacted with in the game, such as Melina, Renna, Enia, and many more. Elden Ring’s characters also include various demigods that rule over different regions of the Lands Between, such as Godrick the Grafted, Queen Rennala, General Radahn, Malenia the Severed, and many more. These demigods are descendants of Marika the Eternal Queen, who once united the Lands Between under her rule.
- Themes: Elden Ring’s themes include freedom, choice, ambition, power, order and chaos. The game explores how different characters react to the shattering of the Elden Ring and its consequences for the world. The game also allows the player to choose their own path and destiny in becoming the Elden Lord or not.

Did fallout new vegas start as a dlc to fallout 3?
For me, no game has given me more "holy shit" moments when I got to the crest of a hill (or down an elevator) and saw a new area. It was just full of video gaming magic. Reminds me of why I like games in the first place.Nah.
DS 3 is in my Top 3 games of all time.
ER took DS and plopped it in an openworld. The gameplay differences are marginal.
What’s incredible about it is the setting.
Nope. My point is clear and simple. Sequels of games are seldom ever reinventions of those games. Devs tend to just build on everything they did with the previous games. Thats the norm, and has always been the norm. For every one game whose sequel has been vastly different from the previous game, there are 100 that weren't like that.Maybe you should look at the point you are trying to communicate then?
Some of these were pretty funny. You had me going with stances and magic, but then you throw out out "glinstone key" as if having to find an item to progress in a dungeon is some unique addition to the series. There were a few other ones that I found silly such as "characters" and "mythos", but I'm not attempting to counter your argument, just wanted to express my amusement with your response.I'm having a really difficult time trying to find and experience all the things below in the previous Dark Souls game, can you please enlighten me?

Lore, Story, Setting, Character, Theme, these are all essential parts of a game, they are all one of the many important factor that differentiate between games. Without these you will be playing with bricks even if it had robust mechanic. The way of interaction is only half of the piece of the word "gameplay", what you are interacting with is another half of the piece. Some of these were pretty funny. You had me going with stances and magic, but then you throw out out "glinstone key" as if having to find an item to progress in a dungeon is some unique addition to the series. But that game is free, you don’t actually have to pay anything its just the “2” insulted people who don’t even play OverwatchFrom what I read, Overwatch 2.
And here I was coming in to say TOTK is the most seamless low effort DLC ever...This isn't a thread trying to undermine the newest Zelda game. I don't care about TOTK
Completely agree. For me, no game has given me more "holy shit" moments when I got to the crest of a hill (or down an elevator) and saw a new area. It was just full of video gaming magic. Reminds me of why I like games in the first place.
Blessed comment, it's weird that people have such corporate loyalty.TotK really kicked up a hornets nest. People here are really insecure about their choice in plastic box which plays games.
GoW Ragnarok is the first thing that came to mind.
Just a useless product
I will say that I much preferred their Fist of the North Star than the Yakuza one, which is saying a lot lollemme tell you about a little series called dynasty warriors......
