Attorney General Jeff Sessions overturned the sweeping criminal charging policy of former attorney general Eric H. Holder Jr. and directed his federal prosecutors Thursday to charge defendants with the most serious, provable crimes carrying the most severe penalties.

The Holder memo, issued in August 2013, instructed his prosecutors to avoid charging certain defendants with drug offenses that would trigger long mandatory minimum sentences. Defendants who met a set of criteria such as not belonging to a large-scale drug trafficking organization, gang or cartel, qualified for lesser charges — and in turn less prison time — under Holder's policy.

But Sessions's new charging policy, outlined in a two-page memo and sent to more than 5,000 assistant U.S. attorneys across the country and all assistant attorneys general in Washington, orders prosecutors to ”charge and purse the most serious, readily provable offense" and rescinds Holder's policy immediately.

How lovely, let's continue to add more people to the prison population so they can get out and become real criminals because their lives have been ruined. Drug war being ratcheted up once again.

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
Fingers crossed this hits heroin-infested areas - nothing pushes back for legal reform like when white people are affected

A reminder that Jeff Sessions got lots of money from private prisons so he's gonna try his best to get every black person in there he can.

Kinda funny he was in Charleston WV saying this stuff. Most of the state should have taken a nice long pause at what he was saying.

Just what this country doesn't need, more families broken up by mandatory minimum sentencing for drugs that are primarily used by minorities. Children growing up in poverty with no male role model. The cycle continues. Shame on Jeff Sessions.

When something doesn't work, and is widely understood to have been a bad idea.

You just need to try again.

Because fuck black people.

I presume that's how the AG thinks.

For-profit prisons just got an early Christmas present. Their next recruitment blitz will be one for the ages.
Let's see how high of a percentage of the US populace you can have incarcerated.

please don't rush to racist southern stereotypes guys
Sessions ain't "black people like watermelon and chicken" racist. He's straight up Lynch black people and don't let them have a seat at the table racist. The fact he is in charge of the civil rights protection agency is absolutely fucking disgusting.

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
What's the mandatory minimum sentence for being a traitor

I honestly don't know how its possible for a human being to be such a piece of shit, go into something that's supposed to at least help society (even if that idea has been somewhat lost) and then just become a complete and utter shit.

Guess they didn't like so many minorities not being in jail. This is bullshit. Mandatory minimums are a giant scam that does nothing to stop actual crimes. This is disgusting.
