SFIV is so much more fun than SFV

I just started playing Ultra on PS Now for shits and giggles, and I can't believe how well this game aged. It still feels great to play and I find the gameplay of SFIV way more satisfying than SFV's. It's more about the mechanics/combat than the content, for sure.

Anyone else feel a little nostalgic for SFIV after playing SFV?

Never got into SFIV, but as a spectator sport it was much more fun to watch it. It had a lot of characters and that move where they mitigate dmg and cancel shit was cool to see.

4 probably has the worst mechanics and look out of any SF, barring the first one. I thought my opinion might change since it's first release, but it hasn't. I would rather play any other SF than SF4.

I don't fault you for your opinion though.

I don't care much about playing either of them, but I loved watching SFIV. The mental and technical game on display was super impressive. They tried to make SFV more interesting from a spectator perspective but it just turned into a mess. No footsies, no tension, all buttons all the time, comebacks are boring. It's just not interesting and that really bums me out.

It also has the greatest SF character ever that is SORELY missing from SFV, Cody.

In all seriousness, visuals is about the only department SFV bests IV. Literally everything else is better in the 2009 game, including tournament play. Even in the darkest days of vanilla SFIV, with Sagat and Akuma ruling the game, it was still more enjoyable to spectate than SFV. Watch SFVI be a reboot starring with the SF2 Turbo cast again and be successful. Capcom should never stray away from that core roster.

I am starting to think Sony cursing Capcom or something. Literally every-time they put money in a SF game, it flops. Capcom hasn't had any luck since UMVC3 6 years ago.

SFV plays way better than IV. They just dropped the ball with SP content and still lag behind even after like a year.

I started with 4, so keep that in mind, but yeah I agree.

I still had fun with 5 but 4 is much more versatile in that: There are way more characters, they have way more moves (normals and specials, generally), there is more combo variation (FADCs let you spend meter to customize combos, something 5 sorely lacks), etc.

I really need something big to get me back in to 5. I've heard more people are starting to go back to playing 4 online, as well.

If Capcom does a super edition, as is rumored, I will probably pick up a new fight stick and give it a shot. But every now and then I get the urge to fire 4 back up.

edit: I don't care about SP stuff, I have over 2k hours in the 4 and it is all in training mode, ranked, or endless matches.

I like 5 more than 4, but I totally understand people enjoying the faster paced matches that SSF4 provides. SF5 slowed everything down a LOT, but I like that a bit more personally. I never liked FADC's and I'm glad they're gone.

I know some people have explained to me that SFV is "technically" easier than SFIV. But damn I still say it isn't from a more casual player angle. Maybe it links into combos are given more frames. But the lack of revenge meter means you aren't pulling of awesome moves as often which hurts the game a ton in my eyes. Especially when V trigger isn't created equal and you have to wait for a super bar to fill up. Which feels like it takes forever to do so. Feels like you got super quicker in Third Strike.
Regardless I agree OP. It's much easier for my group of friends to play and enjoy SFIV than SFV.

Are you saying Street Fighter V is a good game, but not as good as Street Fighter IV? Because in which case I gotta ask why you've gotta treat a good game worse for not being as good as another. It's just the nature of fighting games to grow out of style. Celebrate SF4 and celebrate SF5 too, if you actually dig the latter that is. But if this is just another thread shitting on SF5, come on man.

SF4 netcode on PC is better than SFV any day of the week....until they fix SFV shitty netcode it will always remain lower than SF4, i don't go to tourneys, don't have many friends who play SF series that live close by to play offline, my main way of paying SFV versus is online, and the netcode is a fucking travesty...

SF5 has been permanently shelved since Urien came out. Never touching it again. I played SFIV from vanilla all the way to ultra. I had way more fun with SFIV.

Excellent Adventures used to be something I would look forward to every Sunday back when SFIV was alive.

God, can Capcom just give new patches for SFIV and UMVC3 and ignore SFV and MvC:I all together? We already have PS4 ports of the older games. Most of the hard work is already done.

As someone who got into fighting games ('09er reporting in) thanks to SF4, this game will always hold a special place in my heart.

Towards the end we were all getting burnt out and certain gameplay elements were grating us, and the allure and promises of SF5 sounded great on paper.

Now, good lord I despise SF5 and how it plays. Without triggering too many people I just find it boring as shit as a spectator and boring as shit to play.

Everything about SF4 resonated with me to make me want to LEARN it and fighting games. I went from a masher to the max playing on dpad to someone who invested in arcade sticks, learned the whole roster, ranked up far, learned 1 frame links, learned frame data, footsies, and more.

This game was a deep one and one worth learning that just was easy to appreciate at high levels. Towards the end it could've used another patch, but even now I would prefer watching Elena mirrors than anything SF5 has to offer.

Things this game had SF5 needs:

Indestructible (or a theme song worth giving a shit about)
An announcer mid matches
Multiple supers/ultras to select from. V triggers to at this point for 5
More characters requiring higher execution
Revamp the combo system to require some actual links to maximize play
Better roster offerings

I still think V is better than IV imo. The hate for V is ridiculously overblown. Capcom absolutely botched the launch but the core game is a lot of fun.

Also fuck FADCs and one frame links. So glad those are gone.

Man, say this after playing a hour against a good Yun or Elena.

Sfiv with a cleaner input system would of been nice. I personally hated some of the input overlap that would happen with most dp inputs.

God no, SFV has problems but it's not as horrible as SFIV.

Stupid Dimps' design. There's a good reason why SF became something different after SF1.

SF1's true successor was AOF since it's the same dude who came back with Dimps to make SFIV.

They're both terrible at the end of the day.

Is this actually true? The slow part I mean. As someone who (mostly) spectates these games, V seems way, way faster than IV. I felt like IV was a pretty slow game, especially as the roster got bigger.

Brush I got news for you... let's just say you better hope this curse lifts soon...

Or maybe he just prefers sf4 over 5? And it seems he is not the only one

Nah. I loved SFIV at the time, but as soon as the first SFV beta ended, I could never go back to it. It just felt so clunky in comparison. The animations and impacts of hits in V look and feel so much better.

SFV is a much better designed game than SFIV, in terms of mechanics and graphics. I can see where the hate comes from since there was very little content at launch, but since then they've released a lot more characters (which can all be acquired just by playing the game to get fight money) and they even have a pretty funny/interesting single player story campaign.

I stopped playing once season 2 hit, however.

This is the Street Fighter cycle, everyone thinks the previous game was the best. People shit on 4 for the longest time and said 3 was more hype and skillful, and before that was SF2 > SF3.

Looking forward to people saying how much more fun they had with 5 when SF6 comes out.

Ya, it always takes a bit for a new SF to hit it's stride.

I played SFIV recently and I still love it, and of course it has a bigger roster which is nice. But nah, gameplay in SFV is way more fun to me. SFV Sim may be my favourite version of Sim to date, to be honest.
