Shadows Of The Damned Review Thread

I know a lot of people were curious about how this would turn out, so I thought a review thread would be helpful.

Game Informer: 9.25
VG Arabia: 9.4
Games Masters: 9.0
OXM: 8.0
Playr: 8.0

Please post in any more you see (that aren't forum poster reviews) and I'll update the OP.

Wow, a 9.25 from Game Informer? I'm surprised as hell.

Same here. I mean, I don't put much stock in Gamestop's opinion, but I was kind of expecting this to be panned.

Consider me intrigued.

If the review score doesn't drop off a cliff when the embargo's are up, does this speak to the terribleness of EA's marketing that they can't make more people care about this game?

It's funny how reviews can alter my perspective towards a game. Not enough to make me purchase it but appreciating elements that reviews praise.

There is a section for reviews in the OP. The only one I've posted so far is the Gamer Informer score as the other reviews thus far aren't from well known or credible sources.

Never heard of VG Arabia before now.

Thanks to Akira Yamaoka, the music and sound effects are amazing in Shadow of the Damned. In fact, Shadow of the Damned musical score is one of the best I have ever heard in videogames. I really can’t praise it enough.

Glad I pre-ordered from Amazon to get the 12 songs from the soundtrack bonus.

Yeah, I was seriously expecting bad reviews for this game. Not that it matters to me personally either way, but good reviews are never a bad thing for a game like this.

I bet there will be at least one bad review to come tomorrow that will be particularly annoyign to read.

whoa! Good scores. I was interested in this until I started seeing footage and have become more and more disenchanted of the superteam over at Grasshopper. Mostly interested in Akira Yamaoka's soundtrack.

I was under the impression it was gonna be a horror game, but instead it's one of the ramone's shooting demons in hell with a dick gun?

LOL! I need to rent this game.

wait, this is already out soon? saw that crazy dev interview a while ago, was kinda interested, somehow tought this is a fall release

whoever did marketing for this should get fired

Second game in as many weeks that EA have sent to die. EA are usually on the ball with advertising their releases, so the lack of advertising for this and A:MR is very disappointing.

ughhh dammit PS360, why you have to tempt me with ONE game :(

first Suda trip im gonna miss in years, oh well, i'll get there eventually..

Last time I checked, Phil Kollar's opinion was not GameStop's...

I know, I was just kidding for the most part. He did a pretty good review of Demon's Souls so he's on my cool-dude list.

Anyways, I kinda want this now but in that review, it said it didn't have much replayability so I'll probably wait on it.

Hmm. All these positive review scores have me a bit worried. I was hoping it was going to be a bit more divisive. It makes me think the game is a bit too palatable to Metacritic standards.

As much as I love Suda51/Mikami, I was still holding out on reviews for this game. I was really willing to buy it as long as the scores weren't sub-5's, but instead it's getting 8+'s?

Confirmed for bought. Should have never doubted.

Sounding good so far! Looking forward to the UK version in a few days :)

I have a feeling it's going to bomb though and will be the best unknown game of the year :(

They're stealing THQ's Metro 2033 strategy.

Zero dev cost + zero marketing cost + word of mouth = low but easy profit

What a strange thing to say. Not just because you apparently WANT the game to be divisive. The reviews for No More Heroes were also very positive. IGN and GameInformer were the only major outlets that gave it below an 8.

The high review scores are surprising. But it does have Mikami's genuis on it.

I'm more interested in the length of the game. If it's longer than 8 hours, it's good!

I love the creative minds behind this game, and it looks like the kind of uber violent, super stylish, conceptually crazy and ott game I'd be into, but I can't quite bring myself to be there day one. Maybe because I have a small pile of shame to attend to (and FEAR 3 pre-purchased on Steam).

The reviews so far are making it look like a mighty fine pick up though...urgh.

Theme of Shadows of the Damned - For everyone's moistness. Aw yeah, sons.

Fucking love this song, unabashedly cheesy and it knows it. Badass guitar riff 2 minutes in.

Fear 3 preordered? Definite pile of shame contender. I can't bring myself to play that series anymore after the abysmal second game (and the third isn't even made by Monolith)

Is this game supposed to be scary at all or is it pure unabashed cheesy awesomeness? Or a mix of both? Either way, it looks awesome, but my mates and I are looking for a good spooky game to play through over a case of beer sometime this week.

I thought the first half the the year games rush was over with inFamous 2. Damn.

Though got a feeling it will drop in price very, very quickly. If these reviews stay consistently high I may fold and buy it ASAP though... Mikami has never let me down.

FEAR 2 was fantastic. I've played through like four times. I love the horror theme, weapons, art direction (heavily Japanese horror inspired) and atmosphere of the series. So F3 is one of my most wanted, though the developer change is worrying and I'm prepared for the worst.
