Shadows Of The Damned Review Thread

6.75 incoming!

I didn't know this was coming out so soon. This and Alice came out of nowhere. Thanks EA marketing department!

He'll whine and complain how the game doesn't control exactly like every shooter on the planet.

He will say the game is too sexist, and say the humor is too immature. You know, because there's no room for that in the games industry.

He will probably also complain that a lot of aspects are "too gamie". Whatever that's suppose to mean.

given who worked on the game and the footage that's been shown, the reviews aren't surprising. Too bad EA has essentially sent this to die with no marketing whatsoever

If the game was good, why did they place an embargo till the last minute? Could have benefited from early raves for sure. Definitely intrigued though.

they're just not confident in it, game like this, western marketers dont understand one bit.

People thought this looked bad? Hmm, fooled me.

Voice acting kinda iffy, but Suda51 + RE4-esque gameplay? Count me in.

Buying the hell out of this, obviously.
Tempted to wait for a price cut. I have a feeling this one's headed for the bargain bin, as great as it looks.

Now the question is:

Will Jim Sterling love it because of its WACKINESS or will he hate it because it has TERRIBLE MIKAMKI CONTROLS(read: good controls for normal human beings)?

Hmm. All these positive review scores have me a bit worried. I was hoping it was going to be a bit more divisive. It makes me think the game is a bit too palatable to Metacritic standards.

I don't understand this at all.

I might rent this after all then. I'll let Gaf persuade me once people have a lot of hands on time with it. Maybe it'll be a case of a Bayonetta where people mostly think it'll be a total turd and it turns out to be a lot of fun? I hope so anyway.

Ahh too many surprises getting ruined! I'm outta here.

Oh, and how could I possibly be a hipster? My favorite games are whatever Metacritic tells me they should be so I can be as cool as everyone else.

That's odd. The Destructoid review was of the 360 version and it claimed there was a terrible amount of tearing.

The review code for debugs EA sent out did have some really bad tearing. The retail version fixed most of it.

yep, no tearing so far (and i am very sensitive to tearing and framerate issues).

That's good to know.

It's a shame that their review is inaccurate in that respect, but you you can't blame Destructoid for talking about how bad the tearing was if it was present in the version EA sent to them to be reviewed.

In what context is this a negative action?
It just seems unprofessional to mention DNF in the conclusion of a review of another game. Mention that somewhere in the article.. That quote will forever be on SotD's metacritic page now and seem dated in a couple of months.

EA has been super accommodating with Shadows of the Damned, actually. I got review code before E3, just like we got review code for Alice before E3. I don't think people understand the nature of EA Partners games, and how many stages everything in these agreements go through before gamers see anything. Those are some of the hardest working PR people in the industry.

It's even more unprofessional to word an article so that it fits some metracritic criteria.

Way to miss the point. I'm talking about writing a good conclusion, the fact that it pops up on Metacritic, where most people get to see it, is just a consequence.

7 from Eurogamer worries me just a bit since they're usually spot-on. (yea yea i know 7 isn't "bad" but you know what i mean).

but hmm.. i'd like a fun game like this right now. hmm hmm... wish i had more money so buying games wasn't always such a difficult decision :(
