SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

My main gripe with the video is the voice acting, which is super-awful.

The rest is acceptable for a prototype.

On a positive note, I'm super excited for that "Rapport" system (one of the tiers). I think it hints at deepening the Ryo/Shenhua dynamic of the Guilin chapter of Shenmue II, which was one of the highlights of the entire series IMO.

I also hope we reach the last tiers, and thus having more settings (Bailu Village and Choubu). It's suprising that Bailu Village could be a disposable element of Shenmue III (after being so heavily mentioned at the same Guilin chapter mentioned before).

i think in reality, the "real" goal of this kickstarter is 4mm, but they cut it down to 2 and have a plan on making a neutered version of his vision for the game, in case they don't get to at least 4

Virtua fighter fight system, but also a brawler, but also a day in the life simulator, oh and hang on 100 yen. All wrapped in an anime-esque revenge story.

So one day you're beating down drunks for info on who killed your dad, then you decide to take a break from revenge, and spend all your money on capsule toys & arcade games.

I wouldn't call shenmue "Anime-esque." It's basically a chinese kung fu flick, like Fists of Fury or Way of the Dragon.

I keep bringing up the comparison, but the closest you can get to Shenmue would be a Jackie Chan movie.

The Kicktraq for this game is just insane. Trending towards over 44 million. I know it doesn't have a chance in hell of reaching that but it just demonstrates the sheer speed and pace to which the funding is rocketing forward. I wouldn't be surprised if this reaches close to 10 million when all is said and done. We're almost at 3 million in less than 24 hours.

Beyond happy for Yu Suzuki. The announcement last night and his stage appearance was a truly heart warming moment.

I'm hoping I don't throw something on my TV screen when Lan Di first shows up, the fucker...

does kicktraq not take into consideration how most kickstarters start strong and go into a lull until the end?
44 seems insane haha

I can't imagine what he's feeling right now. An entire career's worth of amazing work all of the sudden coming into the spot light. Yu Suzuki should have been one of the biggest names in all of gaming. What happened to him is a fucking crime.

He deserves all this and more.

I still don't think it's fully sunk in for me yet. Shenmue 3 is happening. The impossible dream is going to come true.

Gonna drag out the Dreamcast at the weekend and go back to the beginning!

It does, just not on that measure. Wait until the [EXP] Projection graph comes online after a few days for a more sane prediction.

"Will there be an Xbox/Wii U/Linux/Mac version for Shenmue 3?
Currently we are planning development only for PC (Windows) and PS4. Other platforms have not been decided yet.

Last updated: Tue, Jun 16 "

I know that is old news but I just saw it, throw up those stretch goals plz

It's crazy, it's not even a question of "if" anymore. It's actually, finally, truly, 100% happening.

Holy fuck

SEGA/DC/JSR fans with shiny new Kickstarter accounts might want to check out this impressive rollerblading game that's struggling to meet its modest goal:

On a Roll - Kickstarter
GAF thead

He's been working on it for a while and there'll be a playable alpha when the kickstarter ends.

what did happen to him, actually?

A funded Kickstarter is not a guarantee of a project happening, just beware.

I know what you're saying. But this isn't some podunk BS merchant scamming for a quick buck.

This is Yu "Space Harrier, Out Run, Virtua Fighter" Suzuki, with some sort of Sony backing, running a clinic over here.

Yep the man is a legend. And also seems like a really nice guy. Was a great moment to see him on stage receiving all the adulation.

Because we need more tier options.

Fuku-san was a goof but his heart was in the right place he had Ryo's back, can't beat up my man like that.

I would imagine (standing in his shoes last night) feeling overwhelmed about the passion and appreciation the audience had for his presence.

I can only assume it's a gigantic motivational booster being recognized on that level and even with his legendary career that was probably a new high what was witnessed yesterday.

Shenmue was sega's biggest saturn project, it was going to be the system defining game, their top budget project. They scrapped it, and redid everything they had done before again on the dreamcast. For two entire generations, it was sega's biggest project.

It didnt tank, but it would have had to have sold more copies than dreamcasts existed to recoup its cost

The top at sega blamed their downfall on yu suzuki. He got window seated and wasnt allowed to really work on anything for the next 14 years.

Yesterday, he came back.

.

TL;DR: Shenmue is basically the first modern open world game. It predates GTA3 and tons and tons of modern gaming conventions stem from it. It basically is the blueprint for modern video games.

Yep, first open world "cinematic" story-driven experience done right, no sacrifice to game design and gameplay. A world that feels like you're actually a part of it with changing time of day and weather cycle, a bunch of NPCs with dialogue interaction, combat depth of Virtua Fighter with RPG stat elements. It just didn't age well to due a very slow pacing and a lot of running around that might turn some of today's gamers off. Pacing is a bit like the old-school point and click adventure games.

Yesterday I was at work when this was announced in a meeting and I couldn't wait to get out to get excited.

I was showing my colleagues the gt reaction video and trying not to jump around myself. They didn't really get it.

But I can't believe this is really happening. God it's a dream come true.

Can't wait to get paid tonight to pledge some money.

Do we have any forecasts on how much this could actually generate by the end date? Hope it rakes In heaps to make the best shenmue they can and add as much content as they can.

I love you shenmue.
I love you, Yu.

I love everyone right now.

So much.

Hugs and kisses and everything for everyone.

I feel like Shenmue II aged way better for that very reason. It's way more action packed and faster moving.

It looks like it'll cross 3 million before it hits its first 24 hours.

Which is goddamn insane.

Yu Suzuki is carrying the spirit of SEGA and Dreamcast with him. The corpse might be laying in a tunnel being eaten by the cave troll that is Sammy, but the spirit of SEGA will persist through Yu!

And he is a designer that time has forgotten. Why was he forgotten and left in the dust to eat rocks in the dirt, when he did so much?

is it true, that this kickstarter is only there to make Sony aware of the demand for this game, before they fund it ?

Because 2 Million seems extremely low, considering how big the budget of the older titles was

Even that doesn't tell the full story.

Despite being behind some of the best games they ever made, Yu Suzuki never really fit with the workaholic culture of Japanese game development, which went double at SEGA.

He was always an outsider, but the incredible quality and success of the titles he and his team made kept him onside with the suits.

Shenmue's 'failure' was a convenient excuse for SEGA to give him a very Japanese heave ho.

For those who STILL don't get why this is such an enormous deal

This is as close as you'll ever get to the 90's Sega coming back. Yu Suzuki is basically reassembling the most legendary team in Sega history to produce one more classic.

It's a smart move offering only the digital ps4 version on Kickstarter, should help sell more copies (i.e. fans will want physical)
