Shin Megami Tensei IV |OT| The Dark Souls of Persona

Hmmmm
Are the games generally hard to find or would I be able to walk into a EBGames end of August to buy a copy? Still gotta finish Fire Emblem...

Might be kind of sparse if FE's treatment was any indicator.

Anyway, buy it. Better, harder battles. Multiple endings. Good stuff.

Alright, looks like I may have to tighten things up for a while but I guess I'll look to see if they have it tomorrow.

Thanks for the input guys

Is anything in the game actually time sensitive? Early challenge quest spoilers:

like early on that guy pulls the first 3 quests from the board on the 2nd day of training and says they should race to see who finishes them first

Is this purely a story concept? I assume it is, the first training seemed to be.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Download, or wait till Thursday and possibly find the bonus version with all the cool stuff...would it be easy to find without pre-ordering?

How big is the game to download?

I will be trying to get the Neutral ending the best I can, although I could see going into Chaos more than Law. Any tips as to how to ensure that I stick to the Neutral path?

does anyone know what level David is in this, I haven't done the challenge quest to unlock him but I'm trying to figure out if I should do it right away or not.

Also, how are the other fiends encountered in this?
David is level 19 in battle, 22 as a fusable demon. Mother Harlot is encountered in a quest, but I think it's NG+ only. The other Fiends are random encounters in some certain areas of the game, and they're all level 80+. You can fight the 4 riders in a single quest, but you can only fuse them after finding and fighting them individually.

Mainline SMTs are rarely subtle about alignments - just agree with everything Isabeau says and try to seek compromise.

I'm trying the best I can haha. But it seems Jonathan and Walter react excessively strongly at points to the little things. It's kind of scary actually haha. Bunch of extremists right off the bat haha.

May be hard to find, maybe not. But definitely go with the physical version because of the items you get with them. No point in paying the same price in digital to get just that. I just received my DLC code from Amazon, can't wait for it to get here tomorrow!!!

The Strategy and Design Book that comes with the first print is pretty nice. I'd have liked to seen more Design as opposed to the Strategy section but it's a bonus after all. Listening to the mini soundtrack and the tunes and I'm liking it. Some nostalgic tracks. Feels very SMT~

Ahh hmm, that's kind of disappointing. I was hoping I'd be able to make them as I played through the game. Oh well.

Easiest way would be
sticking to one path most of the game, then choosing the other in big story splits (you'll know when it happens). HOPEFULLY you'll get it, but I'm not entirely sure how much each decision affects your alignment, since it varies.

What difficulty would you guys suggest? I played P4G on the Very Hard and had no issues.

That said in past SMT games I hated demon negotiations with a passion and plan to avoid it as much as possible even if that means I die more often.

You can only pick Easy or Normal from the beginning (actually, easy requires dying to unlock). Though ignoring negotiation will probably lead to issues in both cases.

I'd rather have issues than deal with that system ever again in a game unless it makes the game basically unplayable (if it does going right back to gamefly).

Might be a while before I get to SMTIV.

Umm... honestly you might as well not even play the game if you want to avoid negotiation.

One thing i've always wondered...is it possible to make negotiation conversations make more sense? Especially when dealing with smarter entities.

I don't think you're going to get very far in this if you refuse to talk to demons.

In fact, one of the first tutorial parts requires you to recruit a demon, so...

I wanted to level up some of my lower level demons so I hope so.

Also, does anyone know what kind of levels demons evolve at? Saw it in the book but I didn't know about it (stayed kind of in the dark on the game actually). Is it worth it to keep early demons for their evolution or is that more end-game stuff?

Keep Angel.
All demons of that race evolve into the next rank.

Damn that SMT3 thread. Looking at the artwork for that game and then looking at the artwork for this...my mind is now filled with thoughts of what should have been instead of what will be.

Also, I made a Nocturne LTTP thread right here feel free to join it.

Hrmm. I was really hoping character development would be a bit more gradual. Wonder if they'll mix political ideology with cosmological philosophy like they did in Devil Survivor 2, what with the class struggle at the center of Mikado. Please don't answer that question, for those of you currently playing. =)

There are a few challenge quests that you will lose access to if you progress the story too quickly, but they are fairly late in the game, and you should be able to tell when is the last point you can turn them in.

As far as I can tell you won't be able to tell which demons are able to evolve unless they've learned all their skills. Even then it may be several level ups until they actually do evolve. So you may want to consider excluding those demons from fusion searches if you want to see their evolved forms.

My copy shipped just in time!

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed that I waited so long for a sequel to Nocturne* only to find that it absolutely can't stand up to Kaneko's art. Ah well, it's hard to live up to one of the all-time greats. Now I'm mostly curious to see how the 2D animation compares to the old 3D models.

*Strange Journey doesn't count, does it?

I'll try to do that the best I can. What about choices in sidequests like
after defeating Long at the lake. He asks if demons are beasts to be slain or gods of the land

Strange Journey counts.

My copy shipped. It's FORTY MINUTES AWAY FROM ME.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow evening before UPS delivers it to me, regardless.
