Shoot the Core! - Gaf Shoot ‘em Up (aka Shooter/SHMUP) Reference Thread

Only 21 hours to the end of the campaign and it's close to the OS X/Linux port!

And a new update (last, I suppose) from KS page:

"RUKA'S SCRAPYARD ~ SHOP 'TILL YOU DROP

THE CLOCK'S TICKING!

We just entered the last 24 hours of this campaign, but we still have something new for you!
Remember that there's still time to hit those stretch goals, with the Mac/Linux port really close!

GOT SOME RARE THINGS ON SALE, STRANGER!
The good ol' habit of utterly destroying huge, mechanical battleships and then grabbing whatever's still salvageable wouldn't be the same if you couldn't spend it all!

Welcome to Ruka's scrapyard, where you can exchange the scrap you collected from defeated bosses for various equipment and ship modifications!

She's an old acquaintance of team X-BURST who helped them build and upgrade their ships over the course of their career.

But nothing is free, even for old friends, so don't you dare to show your face around her workshop if you're broke!

XYDONIA will always keep a challenging and rewarding gameplay without encouraging grinding or giving too much advantage via unlockable stuff, so everything will be balanced to represent an alternative instead of a simple upgrade over the starting weapons.

If you're a bad enough dude, you'll be able to get the highest score even with the default weaponry, but you might also find some that work better for you!"

Finally, one last artwork from Davide Cilloni!

To whoever linked Mecha Ritz, thank you. This is a seriously good, creative shmup.
I just want to reiterate the awesomeness that's to be had.
easy enough to 1CC for the shmup novice, deep enough with a top notch rank system (that you can even crank beforehand) to please the scoring competitors. I even adore the art direction and catchy soundtrack. even with a Starbucks theme the game is so cool

I still haven't been able to unlock the tlb which requires you to clear everything within the time limit... which also requires you to increase the rank high enough to increase your firepower, but all on due time >:)

Managed to 1CC Mushihime-sama (Original)

Nicely done! Always looking for new peeps to watch playing shmups on twitch! I'll be streaming this one myself this weekend, just got some new parts in to modify my stick for additional autofire buttons, will be getting that set up soon! :)

What's the name of that Famicom shmup where you ride a bike? It was mentioned in this thread months ago but i forgot its name :X

any comparison out yet for Caladrius PS3>PS4?

Not that I have found and I kind of doubt we will have a direct comparison between the two versions any time soon. PS3 copy owners don't seem to be interested in buying the same game on another console and this release seems to be the PS3 version with localized text. Hopefully someone will run the two, side-by-side, to see if any odd issues like input lag or an uneven frame rate appear. That's really all I have been waiting on, which is stupid because the game will probably be unavailable and overpriced by the time I make up my mind.

Briareos Kerensky has a 1st hour of play video. I haven't had a chance to listen to the audio (at work), but he might discuss differences.

I'm so excited. Hopefully cave still releases more games on PC

Worth it? Heard it wasn't a great port.

The initial releases was rocky, but after a week they did a fantastic job of patching and now its pretty damn good. Customers seem to be pretty happy on STEAM.

Unquestionably. The port is good, as far as I'm concerned. Slowdown seems correct to me from my time with the 360 version, but if there are videos out there demonstrating how off the PC version is against the PCB I haven't seen them.

I really hope Cave starts making original games again so people can stop comparing the to arcade hardware. I just look at it as a different version.

The slowdown often makes sense from a difficulty curve perspective, though. Not always, but usually. Which is why I'm generally a big advocate of it resembling the original, but I don't need it to be frame-perfect.

Good to know, thanks!

I want original games too but I also think authenticity (at non pcb prices) matters to the competitive scene. Granted there can always be a different leaderboard, but even for difficulty I'd love to avoid another ibara at all costs.

I also wish we got the easier mushihimesama arrange mode from the ps2 version instead of the updated 360 version.

I kinda want Caladrius Blaze.

But I kinda don't want to drop $29.99 for the retail version... Not to mention the shmups that I only play nowadays are Cave shmups.

Is Dangun Feveron still coming to PS4 this year?

What!? Where have I been?
Was announced at the same event as Daifukkatsu coming to Steam

via port champions M2

Also for what it's worth, I've been enjoying the hell out of Caladrius Blaze. Maybe it's just me but that game feels like it needs to be played on controller, there's like what....5/6 attack buttons. Way too awkward on stick for me

I enjoy it too. Its a very fun shooter and the soundtrack is great. Forgot how simplistic the visuals look tough... Its a bit rough. Also let down by not being able to watch replays from the leaderboards...

thanks. i'll check it out.

Despite my inexperience with stages 5 & 6* of Dodonpachi, alongside the fact that I hadn't even played the game in at least five years, I still managed to pull off a 1CC.

https://www.twitch.tv/pepsiman4mayor/v/84887266 (skip to about 14:30).

Yeah I know it's not a 2 loop clear, but whatever. I will gladly take this. It'll be eons before I can replicate that stage 5 performance though. I was playing on another level for most of it.
