Shoot the Core! - Gaf Shoot ‘em Up (aka Shooter/SHMUP) Reference Thread

Ouch, 5.5-6 frames total, with an estimated 1.2 from the TV, so 4 from the software? Am I reading that Google Translate right? That's really bad.

It's important to note that, according to MAME (which emulates things like any of the hardware's buffering and all that), Gradius is actually as responsive as an older arcade game can get. As in, emulation paused, hold up on arcade stick, step a frame, and you'll see movement in that step. Many games won't reflect movement for another 1-2 steps (DoDonPachi, for example).

The quick lazy fix for a port like that would be a vsync off option, I guess.

I had this show up the other day. Really been enjoying it so far.

Kyukyoku Tiger II or Twin Cobra II

Last Toaplan/first Takumi game. Its pretty fucking hard, but it's a lot of fun. Definitely the best of the series. Also has a Saturn port Kyukyoku Tiger II plus with an exclusive mode and level.

Nice! I've always wanted to grab the Saturn port. Been to lazy to actually do it though. Maybe if I drink enough I'll finally hit the "Buy It Now" button on one of the overpriced auctions on eBay.

Eeeeeeew Gradius :/

And yet there's no sign of Gradius V on PSN even after all the ESRB leaks dating October 2013, sob

At this point, Gradius V will be the last PS3 game I buy if it ever comes out. At this point, I'd rather they just remaster it for PS4 without the PS2 classics emulator at all.

So I just discovered Fraxy. Now I can't wait to get home to check it out. A few questions to anyone that's played it:

- Does it have gamepad/joystick support?
- I don't understand Japanese and the main site is in all Japanese. What's the latest version and where can I download it?
- What are the best mods and graphic packs for the game?
- Does it support 1920x1080 resolution?
- Will it work on Windows 8.1?

EDIT: Just got home. It all seems to be working. I just need to test a gamepad/joystick.

Got Caladrius Blaze. I have so many shmups, and I really like playing them, but I just can't see myself 1cc anything. I'm not that good :(

Right, that's what I'm getting at. I really can't play arcade games on a d-pad any more. I've used an arcade stick for so long, and unlearned everything about a d-pad, my hands actually cramp up when I try to use one. If I could somehow tether a real controller to a PSP it might be playable, but at that point the amount of prep work is not worth more than the $$$ eBay sellers are asking for a PSX disc. At this point in my life I'd rather pay for my problems to go away.

Look like the Playstation TV works with the inpin PSN->PS3 adapter.

I should have posted about this last year but it slipped my mind. I own the only English tranlsated Dariusburst Another Chronicle arcade machine that is in a public arcade (The Game Grid Arcade in West Valley City, UT). If someone else out there has the English version as well I'd love to know about it but very, very few were sold as far as I am aware.

Last year I finally convinced Taito to give me the unlock codes for the game which opened up two more complete star systems in Chronicle Mode to give it somewhere around 2048 Chronicle levels to explore; this also gave the game EX type content like the GAIDEN and 2nd Silverhawks to play (although I do not have the Original EX modes). Unfortunately pretty much nobody knows how the Chronicle mode works so its just been me and my 9 year old son who loves the game playing through a lot of that.

Either way if anyone here is in Utah or are passing through, the game is always around to check out. I might also see if I can bring it to the Salt Lake Comic Con this year, although moving it around is not an easy (and a very nerve-wrecking) task.

Old video of it, I plan on making a new video doing a review of sorts and explaining the various features. It really is one of the best arcade games released in years, real shame it was not picked up by many places.

Anyone knows how to unlock hard mode in Cho Aniki Zero? The gamefaqs hint (beat the game 2 times with Benten) don't work, as 1CC with all characters twice, with Idaten/Adon and Idaten/Samson and still didn't unlocked it yet.

Thanks!

Pretty much. I tried Raiden Fighters on PC even though I own 360. No good filters is the least of its problems but lets already start with the fact that the PC looks worse somehow. The big thing is that damned autofire. Its in, its out, its all about and its killin fairies :(

Immediately you can't score for shit. Buy for 360 only.

Probably the first word that western audiences got of R-Type II and Gradius III.

EGM #6 - January 1990 and EGM #10 - May 1990.

Buy Raiden Legends to justify downloading the roms and playing them in MAME.

I'm pretty serious!
I can roll with that. After checking out the scanline thread and already owning Legends, can't be a bad idea.

I wonder where that sits on the spectrum of legally emulating ROMs by already "owning" them? I suppose that given all the DotEmu stuff is just emulation anyway, it's perfectly morally justifiable.

May as well.
I wonder if there'll ever be a Dreamcast-eque boot disc solution to 360 region locking.
Doubt it :/ I have a JTAG 360 and the only way to play games from another region was to rip them, patch them and run them off HDD (or burn it to a disc). Maybe newer 360 hacking methods might allow it, it's been a while since I checked into the 360 "scene".

Damn, that's quite cheap. I suppose it's really only just a computer, but it's still a solid price for an arcade board (of sorts).

Just played my first credit of Espgaluda in yeaaars. This game's a big source of nostalgia for me. I had played Cave games before it, but playing this game's PS2 port (almost jesus fucking christ a decade ago) really opened my eyes to single-credit clearing and made me much better understand that whole huge part of arcade gaming. All the bits of the stages and every note of the music just came flooding back to me as I played. It was pretty powerful!

But even aside from all that, the game is so sublime. I haven't put real time into an STG in a while and I want to get back to it. Maybe I'll do that after I beat what I'm playing now (Danganronpa).

Guess im gonna start looking into Ketsui.

You are in for a ride.
