The news is about a month old, but I haven't seen it discussed here.
Anyways, here ae two links
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22521625/
http://asianweek.com/2008/01/26/a-community-stands-together/

Summary:
2 Police officers respond to reports of vandalism.
Michael S Cho is identified as the suspect by the caller.
He has a tire iron in his hands.
Police believe he made a motion to attack.
He is shot several times.

What do you guys think? Police Brutality? around 10 shots does seem a bit excessive...

What does it matter that he used to be a college student?
It's to point out that he couldn't get into Berkley.

UCLA is actually more competitive than Berkeley, even though Berkeley is ranked higher. I know tons of people who got into Berkeley and not UCLA, and almost nobody vice versa.

Huh? Jeez, my group of friends have the opposite effect. Neither liked me. But UCI did. Thanks UCI. :D

Entry requirement(s) for UCI:

1) Graduate from any California High School
2) Be of Asian descent

I knew Michael Cho, not that well, but he was a really nice guy. He was a better friend of my wife's as they both were in the UCLA art department.

All in all, its a terrible tragedy. He was only 26.

For the record, this was La Habra PD, not LAPD.

i don't understand the importance of him being a UCLA student. Most of the time headlines don't mention what schools people formerly attended.

Depends on the major. I got accepted for CSC in UCLA but couldn't make it into EECS for Berkley. Still, I hate LA so I would have never gone there unless it was my last option.
