Welcome my friend. Not only you'll be able to try different genres of games maybe but you'll realise how full your wallet will be!
I quit last year. Gets old, and the premium needed to stomp w/ the big dawgs these days (64bit CPU, PCI-E, $500 grfx card etc.)

2) Wow, looking at Lukkas's big game list, 2005 really did suck for PC gaming. No wonder I barely used mine to game, whereas I spent a ton of time PC gaming in 2003 an 2004.
3) 2006 is looking up for PC game releases. This is why you shouldn't give up PC gaming at the moment. It is all cyclical anyway. Rough times and good times for any platform.
Lukkas said:Just cause you know nothing about pc gaming and what is actually on pc doesnt mean good pc games are far and few. PC has always had the best games ever made and the ones that give you the most value, ones you can play for upwards of 5 years if you desire. Also every single must have console game from every system has been ported to PC at some point.
Maybe you should look at the library of a single console like xbox or gamecube and compare it to how many pc games have been released in the same amount of time. PS2 so far has been the only console to keep up with good game releases at the same rate as pc gaming.
Pimpbaa said:I know lots about pc gaming, and good pc games ARE few and far between if you are fucking sick of first person shooters (especially war themed ones) and real time strategy. That list gets even smaller if you don't include console ports.

Fallout-NL said:Dude, youve got Need for Speed Most wanted and Fable in that list, youre not going to make a point doing that. And I was talking more of the last 2 years.
Oh and Ive played a lot of those games, and a lot of them were real shitty. My patience for mediocrity has run out. I need triple or at least double A games and 80% of the stuff you mentioned just isnt gonna cut it. This doesnt mean that its any better on the consoles, gaming has gone downhill in general anyway. But you cant be a gamer anymore just owning a PC.
Pimpbaa said:Except that the stereotype for pc games is goddamn true. Consoles have more variety, that is a fact.
Lukkas said:no its not. theres lots of mmorpgs, single player rpgs, adventure games, action games, sports games, racing games, and even some platformers for pc. pc has as much variety as any single console if not more. why dont you actually read and see what those games i posted are instead of skimming the list and assuming every game is either a rts or fps.
Fallout-NL said:Dude, youve got Need for Speed Most wanted and Fable in that list, youre not going to make a point doing that.
Lukkas said:hahaha are you being sarcastic ? all of those games are listed are like ALL over 85% on gamerankings. and the top rated games per year from those lists were GOTY across the board on most sites and awards.
you really have no clue, you dont have ot lie and say you played a lot of those games.
Ristamar said:I'm not arguing anyone should give up PC gaming (I certainly haven't), but those lists aren't exactly stellar reasons to stick with it.

And I can name plenty shit games that have over 85% on gamerankings, those averages dont say anything.
Lukkas said:hey i can call good games shitty too. i can say all i resorted to for consoles in 05 was forza and every other game to come out was shit. doesnt make me right.
Pimpbaa said:Most of the games in that list that don't follow the pc norm are console ports. If you don't like first person shooters, rts, and mmorpgs, you won't like PC gaming. It's that simple. Unless like waiting for the odd exception every blue moon.
bengraven said:If you're willing to part with that completely fucking awesome collection of games, then maybe you should switch. Regardless, you can't ask GAF which to choose, PC or console, because PC gamers will swear by PC gaming till the day they die and consolers won't ever change their ways.
It's like asking a group of people made up of KKKers and Black Panthers which is the superior race: white or black?
PS: I want to buy your Daggerfall and Ultima VII very badly. :lol

Of course, if you don't like ANY of the genres PCs are strong in, you have pretty poor and narrow taste in games.

Except all those genres are rare these days on pc. I used to love simulations. What the hell happened to them? They used to be one of the dominate genres on the PC.
I used to love the genres the PC is strong in. But you can only play the same shit so many times before you get tired of it. I was tired of first person shooters since since freakin quake 2 (and all the games based on that engine at the time), and starcraft was pretty much the last RTS game I enjoyed. The genres of games on pc are becoming increasing more focused and less creative. I was utterly baffled at the praise f.e.a.r got. It was the most generic and repetive shooter I have played since doom 3.
fear was a very creative and original game. the only downfall of fear was the level design during the middle got repetative. comparing it to doom 3 raises the question if you even played fear.

Creative and original game? Sticking some "the ring" style horror into a generic style first person shooter is not what I call creative. The damn level design was repetitive since the moment the game started (like doom3)

99% of people that played fear would disagree with you. there has never been a FPS like FEAR since FEAR.

Speaking of which, you should also take a look at some unconventional RTSes that play nothing like Starcraft or its ilk. Rome: Total War (make sure to get one of the excellent mods--Total Realism is a good one), Europa Universalis 2, Hearts of Iron 2, and Dragonshard are all good to great. People lump too many games together under the RTS label despite them being so different from each other; I mean, no one would put Ninja Gaiden and Psychonauts in the same category (3D action/adventure games)--why do they do the same with RTSes?
Lukkas said:2005 sucked for PC gaming ? Compared to what ? Guild Wars, Battlefield 2, and Call of Duty 2 were some of the best selling pc games ever to date while games like FEAR, Civ IV, and Psychonauts were the highest rated games of the year.
What was xboxs big game in 05 ? an expansion pack to Ninja Gaiden ?
what about gamecube? A game that sold way less than it deserved is is being ported to PC and already on PS2.
PS2 was the only console in 05 to pump out good games on a consistant basis, and has been since release.

if you think about it pcs actually have more variety than consoles. name me a console that has a mmorpg, a jrpg, a western rpg, a fps, a sim, a rts, an adventure game, a racing game, a flight game, a sports game, and a platformer. ill help you, there isnt a single console that has all of these genres, pc does though.

Seriously, take a deeper look at PC games--the ones published by independent devs, or European publishers, or just the ones that don't get a lot of hype--and you'll find great stuff.

BunnyLifeguard said:Dude, stop it.
We don't talk about "10 full-versions" on a cd for 5 $ here, but of innovative AAA-titles.
Considering this generation of consoles, this starts with Shenmue and ends with the likes of Okami. The list is ENDLESS.
A true console-gamer -as a true pc-gamer owns a high end-rig- most likely owns all currently available consoles. And PC-gaming doesn't stand a chance against that package, except for RTS and MMORPG. But even this will change in the future.
And: FPSs are not pc-homeland anymore. By no means.
Quick, leave now before you have to deal with this horrific decline!@#Borys said:Yeah, go ahead.
From the list you posted you seem like a RPG kind of guy.
The golden times of PC RPGS are over. You'll find all your favourite future PC RPG titles (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Bioshock etc.) on the 360. Dumbed down, yes, but way, way, way cheaper ($299 and you're set till 2010! No need to upgrade a single component. Bargain of the century!).
Ultima is dead, Baldur's Gate turned into mindless console crap (Dark Alliance)...
*sigh*
Those times will never come back:

Pimpbaa said:Did you even look at that list?! It includes stuff like 7 sins, Driv3r, and Playboy the Mansion. Simulations as in flight sims or other vehicles. Also, games by independent developers and often a lot of european developers lack the polish I like in my games (I'm after trying a lot of european rpgs).
Pimpbaa said:It may be wrong to lump them under RTS (just like it would be wrong to lump theif deadly shadows under FPS). But I tried a lot, didn't like any of them. I can still play first person shooters, but real time strategy is pretty much dead to me.
Chairman Yang said:Yes...that's why I said some games were miscategorized. There are still plenty of vehicle/flight sims on that list. If you can completely dismiss ALL of the games on there, I suspect PC gaming won't interest you no matter how good it is.
Did you try the ones I listed? You have to sort through the crap with PC gaming, just the same as with console or handheld gaming.
