Should we start believing in astrology and pursue our life partners based on it?

I've noticed people grouping Astrology in with things like MBTI, and that's giving Astrology far too much credit.

MBTI and others aren't something you want to put too much stock in, but there's a major difference between these and Astrology.

Astrology is prescriptive. It pretends that you're locked into one of twelve personality types, because as we all know there are only 12 types of person across the 7 billion of us.

MBTI and others are descriptive. Your answers to questions are used to describe your leaning in various aspects, and they tend to acknowledge that that's not a complete make up of your personality. Everyone is comfortable with saying they're more introverted or extroverted, and MBTI just does that with an additional 3 times. I'm more introverted and thinking than extroverted and feeling, but I doesn't mean I only exhibit the former.

No doubt you think your anecdotal evidence proves your bias conclusively.

I think it proves I’ve tried to educate myself about how the universe functions as much as I can, and that those I’ve tried to gain that knowledge from are very sure that astrology, or anything like it, is absolute rubbish.

And if you think: scientists with decades of experience = anecdotal evidence, then you are approaching this from a very flawed position.

No astrophysicist worth his salt thinks there’s some kind of collective consciousness or guiding principal for humanity in the stars.

No your simple denialism is more religious than scientific from the lack of any discernible modestly educated objective inquiry on the subject of consciousness shown with even a basic alternative explanation on its existence in the cosmos.

The article was posted to show the general struggle with it as it is understood and that ways to prove/falsify are being looked for and applied to different fields. Not everyone needs to study it, but it seems those that don't have the absolute truth about it.

There is no struggle with it. There is nothing in astrophysics that suggests anything like astrology has any foundation in reality. That article you posted was frankly very woolly, and contained no evidence. Astrology is not studied by anyone with a serious academic interest in science, because it has no foundation in reality.

Your statement that my position is more religious than scientific is incredibly ironic, given that you are making the exact same argument that religious people do. You are advocating for some kind of consciousness in the universe, which is of course just another way of saying ‘god’.

No such thing exists. Or, if it does, we have absolutely zero evidence of it, and therefore no reason to believe it is real.

According to what you're saying there is no struggle with the ideas on the nature and origin of consciousness and how it relates to the cosmos. That it's all solved and that no one is looking at it at all scientifically.

That kind of denialism makes honest discussion impossible.

I think it’s interesting to read, like Greek mythology. But I wouldn’t bet my life on astrology lol. Being born in December or whatever doesn’t mean much IMO

Tons of people believe in it. It's a thing in astrology to choose a life partner that is compatible with your birth month. For example, if you're a Capricorn you're most compatible with a Taurus.

Do you know anyone who subscribes to this? Are you someone who believes?

I'd like to come into this with an open mind and hear everyone's thoughts.
Nah. You must be a hideous nerd if you're considering this. I just tried tons of hot babes until I found the one.
