finally. Spent the majority of the day routing cables under the carpet for surrounds and calibrating my system. The rear stands are a little too low. I will probably replace them to something around 36" tall. Gotta replace frosted glass doors on the cabinet with ventilated mesh. Place still needs some paintings and small furnishings, just moved in so i had to prioritize my entertainment system :D

Pioneer 5070HD TV
Pioner Elite 84TXS-i Receiver
B&W 685's Fronts
B&W HTM 61 Center Channel
Paradigm Titans Rear Surround
Paradigm PDR series sub
Panamax 5100EX Power Conditioner
B&W STAV24 Stands
Salamander cabinet
PS3
Wii
Xbox 360

Do those speakers have Kevlar Drivers?

do you guys get specific kinds of lamps for your tv stands, like to prevent eye strain? i have been trying to find lighting for my tv for a while now and i am just totally clueless on the subject

My modest living nook gaming setup. It does well by me...

Possibly the ugliest couch in the world, but hey, it cost me $80 and is comfortable.

yea.. is something wrong with bose headphones? i think they're really great. expensive, but good.

The general "audiophile" concensus is that they're overpriced for what they offer, more brand name than actual technology. I think they make some decent stuff, but yeah, overpriced. At the end of the day it's all about what your ears prefer. I'm a Sennheiser or Audio Technica fan myself.

It's just that you can get some phones with much better sound quality and greater isolation at the fraction of the cost of those Boses.

A quick and dirty shot of my dorm room setup. Love my TV, am starting to think my Wii would be better suited to a lower-resolution display (i.e. not 1920x1080), and am really enjoying PGR4. Really.

That BDI stand costs a grip, about $1300-1500 depending on the size...that's my ideal TV stand but I'm planning to get something else within my budget instead (hopefully soon).

You can find stands like those at places like Magnolia Theatre or racksandstands.com.

Where did you get that stand? Its awesome.

It's a BDI 8529, the website is bdiusa.com

They are expensive tho, that particular model is $1999 at Crutchfield.com, i got lucky and got the same stand for $1550 at a local bdi dealer.

BDIUSA.COM has a store locater.

I was going to say. Thats an Avion isn't it. With the vents and the center speaker drawer.

Yeah, it is the Avion, and it does have vents and a center speaker drawer, that's where i also keep my movies. HD DVD and Blu-ray cases just happen to fit perfectly too. :D

Is that the 1080p 37 inch Westy?

Either way, as a call center rep for Xbox, I would highly recommend taking that phone off your 360.

The Avion is a nice stand to look at, but the design is acoustically flawed. Apart from the fact that the center will have to be really low, it has center speaker drawer? Alot is wrong with that right there and it basically tells you that it was designed for people to have something pretty and not for anyone serious about audio. If there is one place a speaker should never be, it's in a drawer, a low drawer at that.

Yup- I love my Westy. And don't worry about the phone- it's not covering any vents. My Wii, on the other hand, makes horrible disk-eating noises once in a while. I'm hoping that if I put my fingers in my ears, close my eyes, and stick out my tongue, it'll just go away.

Taken with a seriously old digital camera for that extra dingy looking quality. Also, the 360 has since been replaced with a PS2.

and the subwoofer is just a night stand, I use the speakers on the TV (ordering a pair of Sennheiser HD-555s soon!)

I would imagine there's an adequate grill in the front and, even if it was ported, what would be the big drawback to having it in a drawer?

The drawer has mesh covering, the same mesh covering that is used to cover speakers....And the center speaker looks better hidden then it does sitting in front of the HDTV..

Why is the center speaker too low? There is nothing between the center speaker and the viewer/listener besides some mesh..

All the best A/V stands have a low placement for the center speaker, because all the best stands are really low in the first place...Salamander, Studiotech, & BDI all have low center speaker placements..

Personally, i hate high TV stands, i want my eyes to be as close to the center of the tv screen as possible.

Well, first of all, what's your criteria for "all the best stands"? Because none of those are. If you mean by aesthetics, then maybe, that's a personal thing. But for optimal listening, your front stage (LCR) should be level. Your center should not be a foot below your fronts. It does not matter if the front of the drawer is mesh. It's still an enclosed space, speakers do not go in drawers.

Here's an example of proper center channel positioning from someone on the htguide b&w forum.

low speaker >> high TV/projector any day.

Best solution is a perforated projector screen, that is relatively aurally transperant.

Don't be too harsh, just moved out of home so things are still being bought before the gaming area. I blame the bad photo on the camera not being mine. (some stuff has been moved since the picture though).

Sorry the right speaker isn't in the photo! That damn 5.1 was a pain in the arse... Had to return it to the store 3 times thanks to a string of bad luck on faulty units :lol .

Currently looking out for a good low and long unit to replace the 2 make-shift one's I am using.

Considering I had a SNES, a 34cm TV and a cardboard box for my entertainment system when I moved out of home (in 2000), I'd say you're doing okay there.

Is that the 37" w3? Love that damn monitor...360 looks great on it in 1080p.

EDIT: I see that it is.
