Target has retarded monkeys design their flat pack furniture. After having to bash together 3 different units I am sure of this.

Having put together a whole lot of Ikea shit in my time, I simply cannot understand how Target can get it so goddamn wrong. I mean, it pretty much requires a power drill, which is just insane.

Yep. :D Mark knows what it's about.

To answer some questions. No, no one lives with me. I'm going for a mixture of Asian/American look since ya know that's me. If my grandmother lived with me, there would be even more plants around the house. :D That's just the living room area which is similiar to the den. Every other room has a vastly different color scheme and everything.
My house is always a work in progress though. It's going to be quite a few years before everything is settled.

Den room.

I'm confused, you're Asian or you mean you are just going for an Asian look? And where in Asia (lotta countries there, much different styles in each). Either way I'm gonna have to go with grandmas house.

Honestly, a lot of houses I've seen are like that, maybe it's just an Asian thing to me, but it didn't even look like a grandma's house, it looked 'homey' to me lol... but then again I am Asian so... yea...

It's nice to see something different on here other than Ikea/Target/Walmart shoppers... lol... cuz seriously that's what most of this thread is... ! (Not hating on ppl that get their setup stuff from there, just pointing it out lol)...

My setup is on page 1, I too am guilty of the Ikea/Target/Walmart...

But I'm cool, so there. :)

WOW! Congrats and keep succeeding! :)
What was the research about?

Yeah, I dont bother with Target anymore. I just wait until I am down in Melbourne then I fill the car with Ikea.

Yeah, problem is, I don't drive. I had to convince my girlfriend to pick up the TV with me, and figured I'd kill two birds with one stone and buy the entertainment centre at the same time. Took us half an hour to get the TV out of the car, then another hour and a half to put the entertainment unit together. But, man, playing Gears that night was sweet!

I dont know how to explain this, but for some reason that room looks so cozy. With all the foliage, the tv at that angle playing MP3, the cluttered walls....It has a nostalgic feeling about it.

Dude, my thoughts exactly. It isn't as aesthetically pleasing as the other setups, but it looks like something I could see myself having.

You take the sound from the composite cables or optical output.

So I would need a receiver for this kind of setup? This would be a bedroom setup, and right now I just have regular JBL speakers hooked up to my G5.

I want a monitor to play my PS3 on when I'm in my room though.

If I got that Benq monitor with the HDMI, would I get sound from the HDMI cable without needing a receiver?

No, since the monitor doesn't have speakers. I'm not sure you would get sound even if it did since the ones that come with speakers come with a sound IN port.

Here is what I did: Bring the composite wire (ps3) to radioshack and tell them you want to plug this into a single headphone jack. THe extra wire and adapters cost in total about $10.

What you want to do is plug the composite audio into your PC's Line IN port on your sound card. Then you can hear the PS3 on the computer speakers. That is how I'm setting it up (pics to follow on Tuesday UPS no worky on labor day), without a stereo system, which would actually be the best solution.

LOL, I'm just saying. It's pretty easy to pinpoint a typical filipino household especially if you're filipino yourself (me included). If Kadey is filipino in anyway, then lol.

Because of the sound? When I'm playing on my 360 I'm sitting on my bed or I pull the chair backwards, I'm not actually right in front of the desk when playing on the 360 :P

Man, seeing the N64 like that gave me a lump in my throat. At least find some stackable coloured crates or something!

226BW w/ hdmi to dvi cable setup. Audio is running through the regular a/v cables which is hooked up to a 5.1 stereo system (it's only 2.1 right now, though). Monitor kicks ass and runs 1080p downscaled to 1680x1050. You get an annoying "resolution error" message that goes away after a minute or after hitting the menu button. I hope they fixed that in newer models. If they did, I'll probably just buy one and return my old one.
Yeah I'm kind of annoyed by it too, isn't it fixable with some kind of firmware or something? (don't know shit about monitors or computers, please keep that in mind). I love it nonetheless though, it's one of the best deals you can get if you want some cheap HD. Maybe some programmer can hack into the monitor and delete the message :D.

finally. Spent the majority of the day routing cables under the carpet for surrounds and calibrating my system. The rear stands are a little too low. I will probably replace them to something around 36" tall. Gotta replace frosted glass doors on the cabinet with ventilated mesh. Place still needs some paintings and small furnishings, just moved in so i had to prioritize my entertainment system :D

Just retired:

august001.jpg

That was my TV for 17 years, purchased by my mom and dad for us when we bought our Genesis, shortly after it was released. 27" Mitsubishi, weighed a ton but held up decently all these years, some color blurring and loss of resolution aside.

New hotness:

august003.jpg

Snagged it last week when it was on sale for $499. Bought a simple, solid-wood stand for it at Ikea with room for multiple systems. Tomorrow I'm adding the Saturn and Dreamcast to the setup. It's not the epic, mind-numbing leap some have made HD out to be, but it's very nice indeed. I can read all of the text, even the wall of fine print that precedes Bioshock! Colors are clear! Maybe clear enough that I can beat Luxor 2 now.

Late this year, probably early next I'll get surround sound. But visually at least, I'm ready for Halo 3. :D

That's because that tv is not true "full" hdtv. It's 720p on a budget brand, not the 1080p that both 360 and PS3 can output at.

Yup, but 720p isn't something to turn your nose at especially coming from having a SDtv.

Good job man, B&W's are my speakers of choice as well. I really like the new 600 series for the money. If I was you I'd wall mount the plasma, get ride of that top level shelf on the salamander then let the center channel sit freely on top so it can breathe.

Captain Glanton said:
Not all 720p is created equal. My Sammy LCD doesn't do 1080p, and my new-gen games still look "revolutions" better than on my [pretty nice] Sony SDTV.

I noticed you said both "new-gen" and "revolutions" so I assume you're talking about the Wii and of course it would look better on an SDTV, it's 480p

^ Nice setup but no 360 or PS3 to go with that HDTV?

This is strange but my Ps3 and 360 look better on my HD LCD than my HD DLP and the Wii is vice versa. I'm still playing them in HiDef just on a smaller screen.

It also works better because most of my guests want to play Wii and the living area with the big screen has much more room for that.
