Isolation spikes prevent transmission of unwanted vibrations from lfe
Was going to post this, good thing I refreshed. Also some people even go as far as isolating their speaker cables for the same reason. That one is overkill though.

Crappy cell pics but it'll do.

Asus laptop, it's a sleeper as it can pretty much run a lot of games (recent) on high or higher.

Lower the TV 20 cm and you´re golden.

I gave it the room as I'm buying this TV in the next 3-6 months which is 55'

Some of you guys must hate your AV receivers. Never have I seen so many people cover the vents or crammed them into tight spaces, Jesus.

I replace my AV receivers about once every 2-3 years due to new features wanted, so they may run a little bit hot wearing down their life span but I don't need it to last 10 years.

Too fucking rich. The whole lot of ya.

I guarantee you I can take any setup (living room and office) and $1000-1500 (depending on what your couch looks like) and make it look super clean and modern. Don't need to be rich to live in style.

Here is my living room setup. My new additions since the last setup is a new AV receiver, sideboard cabinet, and Harmony 1100 Remote (touchscreen). I will be replacing the TV later this year.

Denon AVR-891, Cable Box, Wii, 360, Apple TV and PS3. All hooked up using RF to IR repeaters for Harmony remote controller so I can leave the entertainment stand closed the entire time (thus why the cables aren't clean / organized behind as you can't see them ever):

Just as I often get the questions in PMs. Both the coffee table and entertainment stand are discontinued (at least in Canada and US, possibly not in Europe) Ikea furniture. The entertainment stand is called Friel.

I see you have stuck the IR repeater leds to the front panels of the stand. Can you control multiple devices with one transmitter? The ones I've seen require the transmitter to be stuck on the IR receiver of the device. And that is something I dont't want to do.

I can understand if this is meant for speakers, but amps?

If it can rattle sure.

And amps sitting on a glass shelve rattle.

In my room the plaster over the drywall screws popped off from the LFE channel on my audio.

Vibration isolation is key to an acoustically clear sound experience.

You can control multiple devices with one transmitter. It broadcasts to each of those IR repeaters. I just need to have multiple because the cabinet is sectioned off like that and they come 2 a cable (for 4 cables total plugging in the RF receivers). It also allows me not to have to worry about knowing where the IR area is on the device as I get really good coverage.

Well, if it's to prevent rattling. Or are tube amps affected by vibrations too?

What brand are you using?

Terrible time of day to take a pic (tons of glare before noon) but you get the idea. Mostly the same as last year except new components and lots of additional content.

Dude, what is this media center called? AWesome.

what are those brown things at the bottom on each side?

Oh, I know. I'm almost "done" putting my place together, and I did it without completely breaking the bank. But stldave's McIntosh was... noticeable.

It was all custom made by a local company called NewSpace. I spent weeks going back and forth getting the dimensions right. It was designed for another TV and I haven't had a chance to float the new one in there.

The brown things are McIntosh ML2C speakers.

If you are replying to me, me vents aren't covered. It is pretty tight but I really have no where else to put it. It has been fine for the 3 or so years that I've had it.

Here is me old gaming pad. Must update the new one.

The shelf layout for this room is awesome.

I've made some updates since last year, mainly adding storage and making things a bit more organized (see here for last year's post):

Unfortunately I'm a shitty photographer, so I apologize for the awful pictures. Some were taken during the day and some at night.

From the entrance:

Back of room:

SVS PC13-Ultra hidden behind Kratos:

TV area. The giant creases in the RotJ poster aren't noticeable without a camera flash:

Back wall again:

Games and movies:

Computer area. I ran an HDMI cable from the computer to my TV so I can play computer games on the TV when the mood strikes:

Wiring job for computer. I typically suck at keeping wires clean, but I'm pretty proud of this. Please ignore the awful drawings on the whiteboard:

Computer monitors are backlit by Ikea LED strips attached to the back corner of the desk. The light isn't nearly as bright as it seems in the picture:

The TV is backlit as well. Like the computer lighting, the light isn't nearly as bright as it seems in the picture:

It's nothing special compared to some of the setups in this thread, but I like it :).

Wow, a lot of these setups are very impressive!

In the future when I have a bigger place I will definitely try to compete in style.

But as it stands, here is what I am working with at the moment.

imag0182m.jpg

This is the left side of my room. Computer, PS2/other DVD/BluRay styled games go on the rack. Most of the games are in stacks at the base because I am out of shelving space :o

imag0181g.jpg

Here is the right side. TV setup and my shelving for CD based games and loose cartridges.

imag0180b.jpg

The picture is really dark, I am sorry about that (camera phone!) TV with my gaming PC and 360 to the side and all of my other consoles that I have hooked up at the moment under it (PS2/XBOX/PS3/Wii/DreamCast).

Nice username, where did you get the SO poster?

2012 Setup -

Not as impressive as a real house, or as fancy as OP, but I love it. Saving for a house while your fiance is in college is a real bitch. haha.
Still in the same apartment, moved some stuff around, bought a new TV, more movies and games..
Also this year I created a game room (photo at bottom) and decided my games and movies deserved to be out in the living room after a few months.
So I moved them back out. What do you guys think?

My final setup as of 1-1-12:

HomeTheaterMain-1.jpg

New TV (Samsung 46" 120hz LCD)

Desk for Gaf, and where I keep my handhelds and extra PS3 B/C, extra 360, iPad 2. Monitor is brilliant for gaming. 23" acer 1080p.

Although I think it looked AMAZING, I just didn't find all my movies in a room without my TV to be practical.
But still, I really miss it. What would you do?

2011

2009 - Dunno where this went..
2008

It didn't really cost all that much, most of the money was from just working 4 months over my summer break from school, I worked in a payroll and accounts department with no real title other than "summer student", but then was called back in for 4 months following summer.

Lots of upgrades may be going down as they may be calling me back for another 4 months of part time before I start full time again next summer.

That's awesome, i hope you do! can't wait to see it next year!

My main gaming room... tried to make it not-so-obvious when you walk by the door. The only thing that really gives it away is the indentation from my ass on the couch. The truth is... Xbox 360, GameCube w/ GBA player, N64, SNES, and NES all hooked up to a 37" LCD and w/ a Pioneer 5.1 HTiB ($90 shipped from buy.com a few years ago).

Living room has the Wii and another 360 w/ Kinect hooked up to a 42" plasma and a decent 2.1 audio system in here for music.

IMG_0142.jpg

PC still gets light gaming duty, but I haven't kept it up to date since I stopped playing WoW a year ago. These days it's mostly cheap Steam titles like Torchlight.

IMG_0143.jpg

Not planning on changing anything soon. May get a new TV later in the year. The plasma is ill-suited for the living room due to the amount of light that comes in, so I'd like to get a ~50" LCD for the living room and move it back into the game room. With hurricane shutters on the game room window I have 100% control of the lighting in there.

Just got word that I'm moving to a slightly bigger space in a week or so! Should have new 2012 pics when I get it all organized.

That looks nice. I'm curious as to why you chose to use wiremold rather than in-wall wiring in the living room. Are you happy with the way it looks in person? Is it painted the same color as the wall?

I wanted to mount my TV the same way, but the wall behind it is drywall over brick, so I would need surface mounted wires like you have, and I haven't seen that stuff in person.

I like your speaker stands in that room, too. Are they Sanus stands? Are you happy with them?

I do envy you guys with the large rooms/basements, space is one hell of a premium here in the UK. Anyhow, my games room:

Thanks for the compliment!

Had to go with wiremold because my house is concrete block (only way to roll when you live on an Atlantic barrier island), and that's an exterior wall. I managed to snake unterminated Cat5e between the drywall and the concrete block, but that took a small miracle. Running anything bigger? No way.

It's not painted the same color as the wall - I repainted that wall a shade darker as an accent and forgot to repaint the wiremold cover. I'm actually pretty happy with it.

Those are Sanus stands. I'm happy with them as far as build quality goes. The only thing I don't like is they have a little bit of a texture to them that makes them difficult to dust.

So happy to be able to finally participate in this thread. I just love these posts.

My wife and I recently moved into a lovely, large new apartment in our building in downtown Toronto. As well as portable gaming and some occasional Mac/PC gaming, I mostly play in the living room:

My game discs (which I keep in a soft case), controllers and retro systems that aren't being used are obscenely organized within that larger ottoman. The coffee and end tables were custom-built, and the wall artwork is all mine.

I'm using a 47" LG 3D TV, a 320GB PS3, launch Wii, and a 4GB Xbox 360 slim with 250GB aftermarket hard drive. The receiver is an older (non-HDMI) Yamaha model that has been wonderful for years. I've got a 5.1 setup that works really well.

Thanks to everyone who's sharing!

Watching your previous videos gives me hope...maybe in a few years i will be at your setups level of awesomeness!

:P

Watching everyone's setup on here for the last 5 years or so has always made me want to make mine look amazing one day. It's getting there.

We definitely need more seating though. I am not sure what to get yet, be it a new bigger couch, a love-seat, or a recliner.

Awesome bro, I'm looking for a new sofa... my mate found a lush corner one in a charity shop for like 100 quid...it was worth about 600...

Well i'd better contribute some pathetic low res pics...i lost my phone on NYE in a drunken adventure so i had to take it on my mac.. with pretty poor lighting.. Next Year my body will be ready

If that picture is broken, it's because I haven't taken a picture of my setup from 2012 because it is poop.

But yeah, the biggest thing I did from 2007 to 2009 was organize my shit. The new TV didn't hurt, but most people wouldn't believe the difference a little cleaning can make.

Hmm, Im considering moving to Coquitlam, but downtown Vancouver sure looks nice. How is the living cost compared to other cities?

Expensive. 1 bedroom will run you on average anywhere from 1400-1800 depending on how nice your building is. I used to live in coquitlam with my parents, but I've been living in downtown for the past year and a half and I'll probably never move back. It's a lot nicer here.

I'm saving a shit load of money living in the New Wesminster ghetto... and I always rationalize it by saying "the skytrain can get me downtown in 30 mins".... but it's actually a load of headaches. I'd rather be downtown....
