2025 is here, and it should be an incredible one for gaming. This may be the first gaming setup thread posted from Antarctica, but here we are! Last year brought us PS5 Pro and Apple Vision Pro, but this year should be the real deal - Switch 2, or whatever they will call it.

The original gaming setup thread

Since 2004, this GAF original thread has created an ever evolving snapshot of what it looks like to play video games in [current_year]. It’s an unprecedented archive of evolving gaming culture, consumerism and home interiors around the world.

FAQs

How do I upload pics?
Use the +Image button below. In case it's not working for some reason, Abload.de is pretty good too. On iPhone, you may need to hit the image size and set it to Large instead of Maximum

My setup is cluttered, I don't want to post it!
Just do it! Seeing collections of hundreds of games, figures, art is a lot of fun. We have seen all kinds over the years.

Can I post other rooms and non-gaming stuff? Kitchen? Garage? Cars? Audio gear? Bondage cave?
Yes! While it's good to lead with gaming setups, feel free to follow with a broader look. If you post a lot of non-gaming pictures, please use a spoiler tag. Some people enjoy peeking into people's different lives around the world. We tried having a separate cribs thread back in 2011, but redundancy with this thread meant the concept didn't take off alone.

What's going on with your setup?
Our main home on Moorea is about week or two away of being ready, I will post pics of it when done. Also, I do still have my London and Finland setups, where we spend a few months each year.

There’s no question there’s better, crazier gaming setups out there, areas for you to get together for cooperative gaming, lights, but I make this small area work. I’ve tried pc gaming, with a desk and it wasn’t for me. I think the recliner adds to the console gamer reputation. There’s potential for a TV upgrade (Sharp 43” LED 2160p 4K UHD with Roku and HDR), there’s PS3, and PS4 and I’m looking at next gen and for people who don’t know there’s still a lot of life left in the PS4.

How effective is that radiator heater? My office is around and the same size and there's no heat vent 🥶

How effective are all the sneakers around the setup? Do you take advantage of the sudden need to sprint or run a marathon mid gaming session and has it affected your cardiovascular health in a positive way?

Best shoe setup 2025 for sure! Do you use those sneakers or are they collectibles?

Unchanged, but I’ve added a Steam Deck.

Skull & Co Grip Case on my Switch OLED. JSAUX Mod Case on my Deck OLED. 3.5mm Apple earphones with mic.

2025 is the year of change Topher Topher . I’m going to do something with my wall so it’s not blank. Ideas I’ve had:
  • collage of family photos.
  • collage of important box arts (Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition PS3, Skyrim 360, Pokémon Silver) maybe complimented by a neon piece or the Wind Waker stained glass tapestry.
  • Samsung Frame 32 inch (I’ve read mixed opinions in terms of the software getting worse on these).
I’ll update the thread in a few months once I’ve updated the set up.

Which shoes make you run the fastest? My inner five year old wants to know.

All money spent on shoes, none left for games?

Ah yes it’s the TENTH ANNUAL this is the year I’m gonna post my setup thread - of course building my next home right now so that will probably get delayed into 2026

Always happy to see this thread pop up in the new year, even though I never actually participate in it. I guess I should be in a position to this year, as my house will finally be furnished and decorated. It's only been uh... 16 years since I last had something to show.

Anyway, cool as always to see the setups.

Same here, nothing to contribute but I would love to. Maybe one day I'll get a house/condo and once I do, I'll setup the game room and share with everyone here.

My Insta for a video of the below pics (its much nicer in motion :messenger_beaming:) This year had a few racing rigs, had the pleasure of having a few celebs come by as they found me on social media. I had an F1 driver on my racing rig too, he signed it afterwards. Some audio upgrades, a nice cabinet containing the ust projector and another UST upgrade by the flying rig, a custom arcade, more tickers upgraded vpinball, upgraded laser theater projector and a couple of other things. I've posted every year for the last 3 years so you guys can see the evolution :). Lots more to come in 2025, Happy New Year!

This is absolutely f’ing nuts in the best possible way! I might have the resources to do something like this, but certainly not the vision. Would love to hear more - what is the space like, what was the concept, what is the setup like…?

Thx man, started during covid and then kept going as people were looking for some of my DIY projects. Then it blew up on my social media! Enjoy the journey rather than the destination and hence why it's constantly changing! Check out my Instagram here with more detail
Building a new home now with a dedicated game and movie room. What theater seats did you go with? I’m looking for a dark red/crimson leather theater seat

Sorry for crashing the thread, but: Have you thought about mounting a monitor or tv to the wall which you can connect to the Deck and Switch via a single cable? In case of the Deck, you wouldnt even need a separate controller as you can use the Deck while the cables plugged in.

Thank you for taking the time to comment 🙏

I’ve thought about mounting a monitor in the past. I sleep with my head next to my desk, so I’d want something close to being flush with the wall. I want something that looks premium, and not like a monitor. It’s difficult to find.

As an alternate I’ve thought about buying a ‘retro’ second hand LCD display to take me back to my late teenage years. I like this one:

Using the Deck as a controller is interesting. I’d be inclined to use my 8bitdo Ultimate though. My Switch would only be plugged in to play N64 games.

A Samsung The Frame ? My TV is 32 inch, it needs to be small because my room is small. It is a bit expensive, but I think this is the best 32 inch TV you can get. It is made to be wall-mounted of course, and is very thin. There is block that you have to put somewhere below though.

Here is my setup. Serves as a gaming room, but also for work (professional) and game development (personal projects) (yes, I have kids) :
