Not sure, the running joke this episode seemed to be that Silicon Valley residents are total pussies about any perceived drop in temperature. The cold delayed Jack's product launch by two whole quarters.
The weirdest shot of this episode was Erlich under the palapa, and then a sudden cut to the morning where he's in the same position, unburnt like Khaleesi. It felt like they had shot some other scenes and possibly a joke Erlich death scene before deciding against it and cutting it out.
I really hope that Osment sticks around as a replacement for Erlich, he has so much comedic potential.

That would be way, way, way, way, way too dark for this show and for his character.
How is it that Bighead gets 20 million, Jian Yang gets 12 million, but the algorithm is only worth 25 million? The thing could solve youtube, netflix, oculus, amazon, etc. Why isn't it being licensed out for billions? I thought the joke was that Richard was obsessed at keeping it in-house and was so bad at developing a killer-app that the tech was being wasted. His idea of an inconceivable number is the kind of money Hooli paid Bighead to go away, or barely double "not hotdog?"
I don't normally nitpick, but it seemed like a crazy low number in the context of the show. Haley Joel Osment is clearly a Palmer Lucky parody, and that kid is worth billions.

It did feel completely rushed and I honestly thought for a moment it was the end of the character.
Yeah been thinking for a few episodes now that they have just completely forgot about BigHead. I mean he lives at that house still right? So he should at least be around, even if he doesn't have any storyline anymore.

As Monica said to Richard, it's just theoretical at the moment. He needs to prove it actually can work before they'll invest in it.

It was talked about here at the end of the last season (or the season before that). It's one of the liberties that the writers chose. And one of the things that feels very off in Silicon Valley.
He doesn't even need to develop a killer "app" to get offers from big companies. But I guess the writers wanted it to be an app because throwing around "app" and "app users/installs" is much easier to understand for the rest of the viewers.
They failed with the porn site (nothing wrong with the tech) and never tried again realistically on that front since.
And Gooli is Hoogle (youtube). They supposedly have also a middle out algo, but it obviously isn't as good and/or being used (Hooli Chat is inferior to Piper Chat).
That's their new product. What the other poster is talking about is most likely the compression algorthm.
That's a ground breaking technology that some tech company will buy up, if not at least license to use, because they can potentially save billions in maintaining storage and bandwidth usage.
The reason why he hasn't licensed it out like he did with the video chat app is probably tied back to his ego. He think it's better than that and more importantly, he's better than that.
As for why he chose the $25 million number because it was more than what Keenan had but not completely outrageous to let on that he really had no intention of selling. Keenan had to be the one to say no.

What is Richard scheming? Somehow installing their app onto every phone at Hoolicon?
Mike Judge has talked about this exact thing. Yes, in real life Rich and the gang would have Google and the rest of Silicon Valley hurling billions in their direction.

I figured it's going to be a scheme wherein they promise free Hoolicon tickets for anyone who'd install the app, and then using the money from Monica's firm or doing some trick at Hoolicon to get the money back. But that seems like an absurd amount of money to use (and you'll need it all upfront), so I'm not sure it makes sense.
That wouldn't be a big deal for this show.
He could come back. It would be a good move to bring him back since he is the opposite of Richard.

Probably the best episode so far this season. I loved the "Midas touch of shit" comment and Dinesh's closing line. Also got a good laugh out of security guy and Jack describing his box-themed stage presentation.
Didn't notice the bad news sweater but that is great, too.

Solid episode, but didn't have as many laughs as some of the previous ones. Two episodes left this season.

Hey everyone, started watching the show a few days ago and I just started the second season. How's the show from this point on, better or worse? I enjoyed what I've seen up to now.
If you've enjoyed what you've seen so far you'll enjoy the rest as well. I can't say if it's better or worse though.
This show would be perfect with a good main character. Richard is terrible and has always been terrible.
