SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

Hey guys I have some problems with the region and buying resources from other cities.

I created a private region for myself and have 4 cities.

One city has just residential / commercial and I didn't build any power in the city. I am buying it from other cities. The other cities have power and water in excess of what my city needs however I still have deficits and not enough power and water in my city?

Is this a bug because it shows my city only buying half of what is available?

Never played a Sims game and thinking of getting this. But need a quick question answered...

My gaming rig is hooked up to my 55" HDTV. Can text and/ui elements be scaled to increase the font size? Seeing videos, I am worried that the txt/ui (some parts) may be too small and am hoping that it can be increased.

Thanks!

How will you control the game? Via wireless mouse and keyboard on your couch?

Currently thinking about buying this game again. 50 bucks with Battlefield 3, which I never played, seems to be a good deal.

Well after 27 hours, I'm not really sure where the long term game is with SimCity.

So far I've been building cities, watching them grow and trying to get them profitable. And that's it. Move on. I've just "finished" my current City. I've done just about everything I set out to achieve with it, filled all the space and the City is in the green hour to hour. There isn't any particular specialisation I want or have the space to do with it, and other than watching the density of my existing zones grow, there's no other expansion I need to be doing. So what now? What's the long term hook exactly to stick with this City?

This feels like a bit of a problem to me. At 27 hours played for £19 I'm pretty happy I bought the game, and I could stop playing right now and be satisfied with my time investment, but I don't really want to stop playing yet. I'm enjoying the game enough, warts and all, that I don't just want to drop it. And at the same time, I don't just want to get trapped in this cycle where I build a City, max out the plot space, keep it profitable, move on.

I am the same way. If the city was the size of SC3/SC4 cities, it would take so much longer to build a city that I am satisfied with. I am really hoping that someone will figure out how to remedy this problem...

Hah, that looks so cool, how is the traffic situation for you? Surely not always as quiet as on those shots no?
Oh, and I don't recognize that building next to your windmills, what is it?

Thanks :) Traffic's not too bad actually, the pop is only 20k or so. It's a pretty basic city with a few base services (and the opera house as pointed out), but everyone's happy and have a decent income so might just sit on it for a while. If you take away the desire for maximum density (I've always lived in low, sprawling, green places) there doesn't seem much else to achieve once you get the layout sorted.

Yes, I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. I also have a secondary wireless Razor gaming mouse the I use for MMO's.

So can anyone that has the game tell me if the UI and Font size is able to be increased? I have the game in my cart on Origin ready to go, but just need to know this.

Thanks.

Still have some plots in my region on NA West 1. Also, I still want to try toget in on the Antarctica server as well! Shima2k is my Origin name.

I play on my 59" HDTV. If there are any text/ui scaling options, I haven't found them. Instead I set the resolution (in game) to 720p and everything is perfect. I was straining my eyes during the tutorial on the default 1080p resolution.

Just had my first two roll backs and lost a shit load of progress. Just as I check my inbox and find an email from Maxis and EA regarding the free game offer, which says - and I quote - "The good news is we have solved all of the major issues".

That's either staggering ignorance or bullshit. I hope Maxis are happy to put their name to that email.

Just had my e-mail from EA about the downtime and free game. Thought they may put some rubbish on but they actually had a pretty good list.

Seriously, how did you manage to play with mouse and keyboard while laying on a couch?

Who said anything about laying on a couch? I sit on my couch and use my keyboard/mouse for games that need it. Works out great.

As you mentioned before most games have a small UI in 1080p so you have the first big problem with the gap between a couch and the screen. When you are not laying, you have to sit endwise on your couch, which can be more uncomfortable than sitting in a chair on a desk.
Don’t get me wrong, I am thinking about to play like you for a long time, but I think that will not work.

Maybe you can post some pictures of your setup. :)

SimCity is quite easy to play with just a mouse. I lay on my couch and use a trackball, only occasionally using my keyboard to rotate the camera, or exit menus.

I decided to try and play a game online for the first time today, after building three crappy cities on my own I felt I was ready to play with others and not be a total embarrassment.

But the thing is, I can't find a single room via the "Join Game" menu. Wouldn't it make sense to sort rooms by emptiness? Rooms that have a few spots at the top, getting emptier rooms as you load more pages, then have the full rooms. I went through five "Load More" pages and everything is full. I couldn't care less about seeing random guys cities, unless they were amazing or I knew the creator. I clicked join game so I can join another persons game and play, not spectate. I can't even find a search/filter feature, so I'm assuming the only way to find some of the cities GAF has made is to add them as a friend.

Am I doing this wrong, or is the online sorting as bad as I think it is?

There used to be a search/filter. They took it out along with Cheetah mode.

I want to know that too. I couldn't find any way to sort by empty. I spent probably 20 minutes trying to find an empty room.

Edit: That explains it. I thought there was one. I wonder when they will put it back in.

Wish theyd just upgrade my limited to deluxe edition :p

Yeah I pretty much said the same thing in the other thread. It's a good list of games, but I bought SimCity because I wanted to play SimCity, not Medal of Honor or whatever. I would've rather had SimCity DLC/first expansion pack, for free.

Edit: That said, I'll probably nab SC4D and play that until Simcity's 'big patch' hits. I've bought SC4 like five times now, but I always end up losing/scratching my disks somehow. It'll be nice to finally have a digital copy.

I'm playing off a 50" TV, but I had to drop the resolution down to 720p in order to make the text readable comfortably. Still looks great though.

A few pics from my latest city. Tried a few different ideas to get sections of low wealth separate from middle wealth while trying to increase building size centrally. Traffic so far isn't a huge issue with 125k. However, the recycling bins are overflowing...

Still haven't added high wealth to the mix yet as I'll probably demolish my university as it only takes up space and costs a lot...

Love it. Good job.

I started a room in Antartica, but no one has joined after a couple hours playing.

I got my city making profit on ore and coal, but I'm going to run out of water soon (and if that happens, I'm screwed) so if anyone wants to join my room you can add me, GAS25x

Wow, had a terrible outbreak of fires. The game broke for a while. I saw the fire spreading and was wondering where my damn fire trucks were. After some time, I see about 10 of them driving around in circles on the opposite side of the city :-/

Ended up being kind of a good thing. It laid waste to about half of the commercial district, so I zoned it for residential and now I am pushing 200k population!

This is beyond a joke, we STILL don't have cheetah speed back? Jesus Christ.

Anyway, what game is everyone choosing?

Considering the servers do nearly nothing, maybe removing the fastest speed was to buy Maxis some time before players discovered how broken the gameplay was.

I chose Dead Space 3. I'll never play it.

Damn fine looking city Maz. Honestly it may be one of the best looking cities I've seen in the new game. I WISH I could make layouts that natural looking in Simcity 4. :D

How much better is SC4 or Cities XL in comparison to this? On a scale of hot dogs to hamburgers.

Simcity 4 is a better sandbox game than the new Simcity, meaning you have more freedom to build the way you want to rather than the way the game wants you to. Much larger city sizes, complete terraforming, and more methods of transportation, zones, and buildings means you can really spend tons of time crafting a region or city to look and flow the way you want it to.

On the other hand, the new Simcity has it's great interface, attractive 3D graphics, and multiplayer going for it. But it's a much more casual feature-starved Simcity than 4 is.

On a hamburger scale IMHO, the new Simcity is a $1 McDonalds burger while Simcity 4 is a Five-Guys burger with all the fixings and a large bag of fries.

CitiesXL gets a few things right that SimCity doesn't, and they have some pretty neat ideas, but the execution certainly isn't perfect and I wouldn't highly recommend it or anything. It's fun for a few hours if you can get it on the cheap though.

I dunno about CXL, but I played the crap out of SC4 and I'd rather mess around with SC5, now. But that's probably because SC5 is new and I've already played SC4 in and out already.

I like the layer of strategy it takes to manage all the agents in SC5. What can I say? I am a glutton for punishment.

Reading through the various other SimCity threads...

Am I just experiencing selective memory here, or are a lot of the irrationally positive comments about SimCity made by junior members? I feel like there is a a thin veneer of shilling going on here. I like playing the game and all, but I'd be one of the first to admit that there are major problems with it, and that they clearly fucked up a lot of shit. Just because I like to play a game doesn't necessarily make it a "good" game, generally speaking.

really hope they increase the city size. I want it to happen so badly...I just can't do what I want to now without having more space....always having to pick something over the other ):

I don't care if they release it as DLC at this point, just hurry up and do it so I can enjoy my game more!

I lie the general premise of sc2013. I like the agents. They need to fix the traffic. its a game killer. at a certain point there is nothing you can do about it.

They also need bigger maps . IF those two things are done I a good with this game.

I totally agree that SC4 is much better for sculpting a city the way you want it to look. Map size, terraforming, and the thousands of unique buildings, parks, etc that have been created at Simtropolis really allow for that kind of creative freedom.
I think the transportation variety along with how they did the zoning takes a little to get used to, but ultimately works just fine.
Simcity is a visual stunner, but has serious issues. I'm guessing all these things will be ironed out(modded) to our liking hopefully in the near future.

I like your hamburger analogy...lol.
