Cities you make on one server don't exist on other servers.
Like I said this game is FUCKED
Hopefully enough people will have rage quitted by tomorrow night so I can actually get back go my city and play some more.
I feel like there are plenty of open spaces on Discovery Delta 2.
Quick question: I noticed when picking a large region, such as Veridian Woods, that the individual city plots are grouped together in fours, with the roads/railroads only connecting to the four plots and not to the others. Would this indicate that the group of cities in the southern corner of the map are not able to interact with the cities in the northern corner?

That's how it works, sadly. That's how servers generally work though.
Also, can't you turn off tutorials in the settings? Or at least skip out of it? I skipped out of it right away.

They are, but the people that are happy are playing, which leaves those that sadly can't play in here frustrated :/ Same as every launchday-thread, you should've seen the Diablo thread/official forum after release.

Yeah it was my fault, I didn't see the server option in the splash menu.

Seems to be a mixed bag, I think the majority of us in a GAF region are kind of excited to see all 16 cities working together whereas the solo players among us are left feeling a little disappointed at the lack of size (we all are but with the multiplayer it isn't so bad).

well.. .this is straight up awesome.
installed the game and i'm forced into the oceanic server because all the US east are full, and my own US west servers are busy.. go figure...
ok... i sign into oceanic server and fix my settings and then quit... i try to play the game again and now i get the "incorrect login information... check your creditials" message.
WTF!!
i'm logged into origin and pressing play... my login is valid damnit.
this is the worst day one experience i've ever had. i can't even log into the damn game to even look at the servers.
edit: ok.. it worked now... but how in the hell are 2 east servers full? this is a game meant to be connected in order to play and there's only 2 servers for the entire east coast? seriously?

I doubt many here have played that game. That is exactly what this game is though, it's a sequel to Sim Town.

they'll release the next simcity and we'll have to buy that or not play at all. this is what gaming is moving towards. publishers being in full control of their content. no offline play... limited servers and all that bs
It isn't mandatory to complete it, just exit out of it back to the main menu.

Mhmmm, question: Does anybody know what the "reclaim" button does, in region overview? Like, it doesn't say "claim city", it just says "reclaim", and the city is grey and not a blue square. Is that a city somebody abandoned? And "reclaiming" means that i'd be claiming it for myself? or make it available for everyone?

Well I got to log on to a EU server and play for a few hours and then the game crashed. Not sure if my city is still there or not. It was ok I guess but I feel like this game has left a bad taste in my mouth. It just doesn't feel right. The direction they went with this game is really odd.
Edit: Also a zombie outbreak happened and caused like 130 of my buildings to be abandoned and I had to individually bulldoze every one of them. Is there a way to do that faster? It was really annoying and I kind of don't even care if the game crashed after that because I was a bit tired of it at that point.

Diablo 3 removing an offline mode is shitty but it doesn't even approach what EA did with this franchise. I hope this game bombs.

None of my building options load their images, making it difficult to find what I need to be building... Is this a server thing or should I reinstall?

you didnt really pay $60, did you? that seems... a bit high for all the deals that have existed for months.
but i get your point. im in a 20 minute queue. a 20 minute "next attempt to join" queue.
its unacceptable, but hopefully it gets better within a week or so. jesus.
Well, now it's getting frustrating. Tried to load my previous city, I get "Unable to load this city. Please try again.". Fine, I'll start a new city in a different region -- crashes 20mins later, doesn't save my city. I do it again and this time play about 10 mins then quit to menu so it can cloud sync the city, nope it's not there anymore. Playing on the Oceanic 1 server too which shouldn't have any problems.

Been playing for the past seven hours - game rules.
Got disconnected once after the game had been warning me for a while it was unable to contact the game servers, had to wait in a bit of a queue to get back in but I've come to expect this kind of thing on launch day so no big deal.
I'm just about done with my first city, a dirty mining town with 5 ore mines, 3 refineries, and a coal mine, shipping my goods out via an upgraded trade port. All this income has allowed me to purchase the very best services for my little shit hole of a town, so my only concern at this point is running out of water as the water table seems to get depleted fairly quickly.
Now that I've unlocked a number of buildings in my region, and have a cash cow of a city that can gift money to any new city I build, I think it's time to branch out and try another specialty. But alas, work and school will take up most of my free time the rest of this week. I can't wait to get back in there over Spring break, and I'm really looking forward to playing with some gaffers.

You know, I was one of the few people that defended the Diablo 3 debacle, I was always a little hesitant to see the same rules applied to sim city and now that I've tossed a couple hours in there I can safely say that yeah- I don't give a shit what they were trying to do with the always online nonsense. The simple fact that I can't even start a private region on any server is by itself inexcusable.
It's a shame to because the game that IS there is actually really good but EA doesn't want anyone to play it apparently. See, they tried to do this with simcity 4 but it just never got finished and you ended up just filling out a region all on your own in that one, at least there the region felt like 1 enormous city though. I can see the excitement of playing this wearing thin much faster then any previous entry in the series simply because of the online bullshit , then once that gets sorted proper (which it will) everyone will start hitting that city size limit and just give up on the game.
What I see here is an interesting attempt at a relaunch for the series as an online gateway , where it leads ?
Well, people seem to want larger cities more then anything and I suspect they are trying very hard to pull that off- it will require a 64 bit version of the game or possibly splitting a single city into districts that are separately loaded. Sounds like at the very least they can double it to 8 GB (apparently that's the limit of basic 64 bit windows) from the current 4GB. Fine tune and streamline the engine they are currently using to process information of groups of citizens instead of single sims and items maybe ? I don't know, I'm sure there's a way to do it that could at least quadruple the current size limit (that would be 2X width and 2X length) , next up seems to be the empty borders between cities , that will likely be more complicated to address , perhaps let players build their own region and then alter the environment like you could since simcity 2000 ? or even a worms style editor- you pick mountains, water , rivers, etc and it'd just render something up randomly.
Finally, if successful at making larger cities - I'm sure people would appreciate more transportation options to go along with that. I fully expect all of this stuff will happen in time. It's like a new platform, maxis will be building on that platform for the next 5 years. The real question is- how much will it cost us when the game is actually "finished" ?
