'other great American bands' implies that the previous listed bands were American as well.

That is the joke...the OP kept naming all these things at American, when they were not American. Like Queen, and ABBA. The mods changed the title to his eternal shame.

That is just not true. The original movies were much better received by general audiences than the sequels. TLJ will never spawn any copy cats or lay the foundation for a whole genre of movies either.

there is such a thing as objective quality, and the original SW trilogy was it. the things from the 80's that people consider great now were largely the same great things I originally experienced then.
in the Middle East I watched SW for the 1st time on video tape. there was no online community influence, and few other kids watch English stuff(I used to be the nerd that explains western pop culture). it was just me and my bros. and we all considered SW12& as undisputedly awesome. we watched the other sci-fi stuff and recognized it as campy copy thrash.

there will be an eventual cultural rebellion against the current media. not sure it will happen in an English country though. I'm not natively English. I only started with the language because it had more interesting stuff to read and watch than my own native language. almost everything written was manipulative and ideological and it put me off.

I remember when I was a kid watching Star Wars. My family consisted of my mum, my sister, my aunty and my nan and pop. None of them gave a shit about Star Wars. So when I watched the films as a little kid I didn't have anyone to introduce me to the world of Lucas and thought there was actually 6 films and wondered why I could never see them all. And I also had no idea what movie was what. And I didn't care about the Darth Vader father reveal because I wasn't attached to the characters.
I was pretty indifferent to Star Wars until the prequel films came out, that's when I finally went back and watched the first 3 in correct order. I never thought much of A New Hope even when I was a little kid.

Transformers, GI Joe and He-Man were my jams when I was little. Animation in general was more interesting to me than real life films as a kid.

As a non-American, I don't view your culture as a "global laughing stock". Sure, there's a lot of thrash being made, but that's just a consequence of the massive amount of media being produced in this day and age. The US is still responsible for the most influentual creative works of our time, including stuff like the MCU and Game of Thrones, as well as a bunch of groundbreaking artists.

You need to do something about your political system, though. Two parties, lol.

Being terrible at your job is nothing new, but turning your "I'm offended" attitude into something commendable is definitely very of the now. Our culture is definitely changing.
