Skyfall Theme by Adele

I'm gonna wait for the entire song to be released before I judge, but for now I'm not really thoroughly impressed, a bit underwhelmed actually.

The problem is that she doesn't sound sexy, so it makes for a terrible Bond theme. Let's be honest, her voice sounds like a fat person's voice, even if you didn't know what she looks like.

Sounds like a theme for a Bond video game. It sounds good, but it doesn't stand out. At least it's not QoS bad.

Casino Royale still has the best theme of Craig movies.

The entire time I was listening to the preview clip: goosebumps and hair standing on end. Wow. Sure I still love You Know My Name so much more but this sounds like classic 007 theme music which is great!

Been on repeat for the past two hours, and it's just the preview :o

I've held myself back from going full loco like that. It's definitely gotten more plays than a preview should have over here, but I am holding out for the full track. I think.

Would not work?

Classic Bond-age-GAF: Have the Bond themes always been a female lead?

EDIT: Duh Paul McCartny and Duran Duran

And the second Bond Film, From Russia with Love, although the version with vocals was only actually used in the end credits. Instrumental in titles. Also Thunderball.

And Goldfinger was actually demoed with male vocals. Unsurprisingly it wasn't as good.

"drowned and dreamt this moment"

poor Vesper.

Edit: I'm a little shocked so many people are praising Thunderball. Yes, Tom Jones is a great singer with a great voice, but it is so ludicrously written with a predictable arrangement that I'm boggled that it is loved so much. For me, the quintessential Bond themes are, in no particular order:

You Only Live Twice
Live and Let Die
Goldfinger
A View To a Kill
Nobody Does it Better
Goldeneye
You Know My Name

Edit: Nancy Sinatra is still alive? Awesome. Also, is there a version of Bono (U2) doing Goldeneye on their own?

That's a pretty decent list.

Though I think The World is Not Enough deserves a spot there too.

(I have a soft spot for that movie in general. Guilty pleasure.)

I would have included The World Is Not Enough, but then the list just gets too big. I really wanted to just list 5 songs, but couldn't decide on who to cut.

I don't know why, but A-Ha's Living Daylights theme will always be one of my favorite Bond themes. Maybe it's nostalgia.

Also, Tom Jones did Thunderball.

Tom Jones' Thunderball theme is fucking GANGBUSTERS.

So, there's a lot of conceding that creating a 'best of bond themes' list is difficult, simply because there are so many excellent tune...

...but what about the worst themes?

Personally, I'd have to say that nothing comes close to Another Way to Die. Just so many terrible things about this one. It's so dry, raw for the sake of being raw, but worst of all is the horrid, out of tune "vocalizing" that happens halfway through the song. It really sounds like Alicia and Jack got together in a garage, laid down everything on a first take, and called it a day.

Die another day: worst. bond. song. ever.

I like Die Another Day. It's different, but still has the grand bond violins. Especially the part where Madonna laughs and its followed by the music with her whispering some words I like. That part's only in the video of DAD though, which is a shame.

Anybody else find it sort of weird Adele is singing a song for James Bond, a man who's exactly the sort of scumbag she usually bases her albums around?

EDIT: Also, any answer that isn't Live & Let Die is objectively a wrong one.

After the original James Bond theme, I think On Her Majesty's Secret Service assumes second in command on my list. It's so good that I think it should have become a series mainstay, an unofficial second theme akin to Metal Gear Solid's various themes.

I used to love Diamonds are Forever, until Kanye West somehow simultaneously improved it with an amazing baseline AND ruined it with his lyrics ("forever-ever-ever-ever".... *orgasm*).

The Living Daylights and View to A Kill are obvious choices because of their endearing levels of 80s cheese. They make for awesome walking around tracks on an iPod.

Casino Royale would have actually been my favourite ever, but the singer ruined it by sounding like he's just waltzed off the street with constipation. God tier status tune, relegated to the bargain bin.. lovely orchestral versions peppered throughout the movie though.

another way to die is my favorite. it's excellent and interesting. might not be the greatest fit for a bond theme though.

Another Way to Die sounds like some chick trying to sing a kareokee song.

But anyway love this Adele song, classic bond tune so a safe tune. But overall it fits well and I can't wait for the full version.

My top 5 picks:
1. Live and Let Die
2. Nobody Does it Better (The Spy Who Loved Me)
3. You Only Live Twice
4. Goldfinger
5. A View to a Kill

Roger Moore had the best themes.

Now I'm hyped for the titles sequence. I'm predicting lots of sihloutted naked girls falling through auroras.

Daniel Kleinman's previous Bond titles had NO women in them, aside from one shot of Vesper's face on the Queen of Hearts.
