Skyfall Theme by Adele

Well, I think it's horrible.

(For a start, I hope the production is better than it sounds there, seems like there's some horrible radio compression going on.)

But even so, it doesn't seem like a great song for the following reasons:

1. The lyrics don't suit her London accent. The whole chorus rhymes with 'all', which she pronounces as 'aw'. As in 'let the sky faww, when it crumbuwwws, we will stand tawww or face it awww together'. It just doesn't sound right for a Bond song, considering most of the characters (Bond included) speak in a more... 'public school' British accent.

2. Quite frankly, I don't think she sang it very well, considering her talent. It starts really well, very Adele-like (particularly her melisma on the word 'overdue') but the way she hits the highest note each time in the chorus ('tall') is awful. I guess it's supposed to sound passionate by being slightly off pitch, but it comes across as lazy and inaccurate.

3. The backing 'let the sky fall' singers sound terrible. What were they thinking? The actual sound of them is nasty (although perhaps will improve at better quality), and the rhythm they've chosen doesn't seem to compliment the lead vocal in any way.

4. You know what, it's really just the chorus that's the problem. Even ignoring the three previous points, the chorus is simply not strong enough compared to the verses. The verses are good (maybe even great), the chorus is just bland bland bland. And even after the middle-8, the return to the chorus is very anticlimactic.

[edit] oh the iTunes version is out? I shall see if there are any much-needed improvements.

I only agree with point number 3.

I really like it. Not sure if I love it, but I really like it.

exactly what I feel.

EDIT: and about the chorus being anticlimatic... yeah, I actually think the strings are what really "make" the chorus, otherwise it would be like a whimper.

It's one of the weaker Bond themes but it will probably mesh with the titles decently so I don't care too much (even if I do, being slightly obsessed with Bond titles).

This is true.

Other than the backing singers in the second chorus forward, it's pretty good.

I imagine the version edited for the movie will make it seem better since it probably won't repeat the chorus quite as much.

The video is getting absolutely bombarded with comments. Any guesses how many views it'll have 24 hours from now?

I really like it. I was a bit wary about Adele doing the theme, but I think it's great. Sure I think the chorus could be better in terms of lyrics because the verses and bridge have excellent lyrics, but overall I'm happy. Can't wait to see what the intro is like.

Ahhh the extended bridge makes the backing parts seem more reasonable now. And yay for better sound quality. But meh, the chorus still sucks. :P Such a shame, because the intro and opening verse held so much promise.

It's gonna sound really good belting out of a theatre sound system.

Wonder if Newman is incorporating the instrumental theme into his score.

I hate most of Adele's stuff, but this is bang up amazing. Can't wait for the full film now and to see how this fits into the intro/credits.

It's grown on me. It's better than the radio version posted earlier, because it actually builds into something at the end.

But jeez, those backing vocals didn't need to exist.

The song seems to suggest that Skyfall is a location.

I figured it was a codename for a previous case, but it definitely suggests that it's an acutal place. (Perhaps a codename for a place.)
